5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy and cooks well
The enameled cast iron casserole, or dutch oven, is a great addition to any chef's kitchen. It generally becomes a family heirloom, because the pot will outlast the chef.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cracked and Disappointed
I bought this enameled cast iron pan in hopes that it would be high enough quality to last. Unfortunately, I found cracks in the enamel after only two uses of very light wear. My stovetop use did not exceed the medium setting and my oven use didn't exceed 300 degrees. I would consider that very gentle handling! I will be returning this and buying a le creuset in hopes of...

The most well known brand is Le Creuset, but those are also the most expensive. I've found this Cuisinart to be very capable and it's about half the price. Its taken some punishment from me over the past few weeks and performed admirably.

I have a Le Creuset enameled aluminum stock pot. I can't see a noticeable difference in the quality of their enameling. This bad boy is serious cookware for serious cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cuisinart Enameled Cast Iron - WHAT A FIND!!!, December 31, 2010

If you are looking for affordable enameled cast iron this is it. I've used Le Creuset many times and it is great cookware...but this is just as good for much less money. I bought this piece - the 7qt oval Dutch Oven in Cherry Red for $89.90 on Amamzon..(the corresponding Le Creuset piece goes for $275.00) and is is beautifully made...not like some of the cheaper knock-offs. Its VERY heavy and the enamel is applied perfectly. Will buy additional pieces (5qt Dutch Oven, grill pan etc.) now that I know Cuisinart makes their Enameled Cast Iron so well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value for a Heavy Casserole, January 21, 2011

I purchased this casserole in December 2010 and have used it a dozen times to cook dishes such as braised short ribs and beef brisket. The results have always been excellent. It cleans very easily and shows no signs of cracks or other deformities. You should take note of its weight. It is very heavy, especially when holding 5 or 6 pounds of meat, vegetables, and broth. So one has to take care when moving it from stove top to the oven. If you enjoy cooking, this casserole is a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like it better than Le Creuset, January 13, 2009

I bought one of these pans recently (retail) for about $70. The first thing I cooked in it was a nice lean pork loin roast. There's just something about cooking in cast iron - everything comes out juicy and delicious. Also this Cuisinart pot has such a nice finish, it cleaned up SO easily, I barely had to wipe it! I did put a skim of veg oil in the bottom before I added the roast. Anyway, I won't be spending the $$ for Le Creuset enamel cookware any more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavier than Le Creuset, April 17, 2011

I bought this in Home Goods for $90. I use it at least twice a week and have had no problems. I was in Wegmans today and saw the Le Creuset dutch oven for $180. I picked up the lid and was amazed!! It was so much lighter than mine. I checked online and sure enough the 7 quart Cuisinart is heavier than the 7-1/4 quart LC. I have had no problems with the enamel chipping. I can't imagine spending twice as much money for something that IMO is not as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars so far so good!, March 29, 2011

This dutch oven easily became one of my favorites in my kitchen! I love the size, although it's just me and my boyfriend, I always cook in large batches. It heats quickly and evenly and the clean up is a breeze. I did not find any staining or any of the enamel chipping off either. I also season the rim of the cover and the pot itself because the cast iron is exposed on those areas. No biggie. I don't even put it away, I just sit it on top of my stove because it's also a nice piece to look at. I always feel it makes my kitchen more homey when I see it sitting on my stove. I love the food that I cook in it and over all I really have no complaints. I will eventually buy a Le Creuset or a Staub but I figured this was a great start (for around $100 for a 7 quart dutch oven, it's a steal!) I will see how it holds up in the years to come.

I purchased this for my mother for Christmas. She used it for the first time last week. When she went to use it, we realized the enamel was chipped. Either it chipped at the factory, en route or just with one use. Regardless of which scenario is correct, I'm very disappointed such an expensive piece of cookware was so easily damaged. I have my own cast iron enameled Dutch oven and have had it for several years. Many pots of chile later, it is not damaged...so that is why I am disappointed with this Cuisinart piece. I intend to return it and "eat" the return shipping. Sorry to disappoint.

A VERY heavy dutch oven. We roasted a prime rib and was excellent. Works on our induction cook top also. Don't drop it on your cook top!

My wife has cooked so many wonderful dinners in this dutch oven. Pork Shoulders, Beef Roasts, Pork Roasts. Plenty of room to cook big meals for a big family, or planning for leftovers. Fantastically easy to clean.
