Very easy to clean.

I'd add a "self-basting" feature, like the Mario Batali Dutch Oven has, or the ridges that serve the same purpose on other high-end cast iron cookware.

They are both terrific at what they do - great for braising, soups, stews, etc.

I had been looking all over for the perfect French/Dutch Oven - then I found it HERE on Amazon! I didn't even know that Cuisinart made one until I found it here! AND for a fraction of the cost of what I WAS going to get (the Le Cruiset brand) I love this one and have used it at least once a week since it arrived! I love that you can braise the meat, right in the same pan (like they do on the cooking shows!) and pop it in the oven to slow cook - just like that! The clean up is so easy too! I was originally wanting a cobalt blue but now that I have the Cardinal Red - I LOVE IT! One of my best purchases at SUCH an awesome price! The 5 1/2 quart oval is perfect for doing pot roast for a family of 4-6 with plenty of room for carrots, onions and potatoes - my roasts have never tasted better! And with the Prime shipping, I got it shipped for FREE (and it's a heavy pot!!)

I picked up this same item at TJ Maxx about a month ago and I LOVE IT! Although I have tons of cast iron, I had been wanting and needing an enamel covered dutch oven for quite awhile. I can't say enough good about this one. It is holding up beautifully after getting heavy use and it cleans up so easily. It has definitely made my life in the kitchen easier. Don't pay the over-inflated prices for Le Creuset. This Cuisinart will do the exact same thing for a fraction of the price.

Friends call me Queen of the One Pot Meal...I love to cook soups and stews and anything with blended flavors from long slow cooking...for years I successfully used a traditional cast iron dutch oven, but was always frustrated that it was not attractive on the table for family style meals and leftovers could not be stored in it due to rust...not wanting to pay for the big name brand, I hunted around until I found the an enameled cast iron casserole in the desired color, size, shape and price I wanted...THIS POT IS IN CONSTANT USE...it rarely gets back to the cabinet shelf...it's washed and put right back to use...the Cuisinart enameled cast iron casserole is the BEST POT IN MY KITCHEN!...

As an amateur cook, I like to avail myself of quality cookware for good results and tasty food. Over the years I have collected a few "Le Creuset" pots of various sizes, from Cocottes to 5 Qt., and they have weathered the test of time and frequent use.
Recently, I needed an oval shaped Dutch oven for fish recipes and discovered the Cuisinart enameled cast iron 5 ½-Qt. oval casserole (Dutch Oven) at a price less than ⅓ of a similar "Le Creuset". Its size exactly fit my needs (Inside dimensions are 11 1/2" by 9 1/8" by 4 1/8" deep).
After a few meals followed by rounds in the dishwasher, I decided to write this review.

PROS:
Well made, sturdy and does not chip easily.
Even heat distribution; will not burn/scald food with proper use.
Can be used on stove top with gas/flame, electric coils or Induction.
Oven safe, up to 500 Fahrenheit, including the knob on the lid.
Easy to clean with dish soap and warm water (Recommended) - no matter the residual.
Dishwasher safe. (however some reviewers reported dullness of exterior and color bleed after using a dishwasher).
Exact fit of the lid, seals perfectly - will not splatter.
Great price. Excellent value.

CONS:
Very heavy - 13.4lbs. May be a problem for some individuals.
Best use is for big meals; air trapped in empty space may dry food.
Interior white baked enamel may show discoloration after use - use lemon juice with baking soda and scrub gently for best results.
Poor customer service - see 1 and 2 star reviews.

CAVEATS:
For best results, do not use higher than medium heat on stove. (Cast iron heats slower than aluminum/steel but is much more efficient at trapping heat).
Always use wooden or heat-resistant plastic utensils.

I recently purchased a new stove which has a center burner that is oval.
This is the perfect pot for that burner. It also does a wonderful job and
is every bit as good as that much more expensive french brand that my
friend has.

Great Dutch Oven. I bought the red, which is an attractive deep red, almost maroon.

Inside dimensions are 11 1/2" by 9 1/8" by 4 1/8" deep.

The only negative is the lid is not self-basting, which is handy when braising or stewing, but not a big enough deal to lower rating.

I use the Thunder Group 9 Inch Fry Basket to turn this dutch oven into a great deep fryer or boiling pot. The fry basket fits this dutch oven perfectly. You still have room at the oval ends to put a thermometer. I use the CDN Digital Programmable Probe Thermometer. I find the digital thermometers to be more accurate and easier to use than the analog thermometers. You can also set a temperature alarm to sound when the oil or water hits the desired temperature.

This oval Dutch Oven is definitely a keeper. The first recipe we cooked in it was a classic ham and bean soup. The oval shape was handy when it came to accommodating the length of the ham bone. It also is a great match for the oblong burner on our stove-top. The enamel coating appears to be of very high quality with no visible flaws. The pot has a good "heft" to it, as a cast iron pot should. The only improvement I'd make to the pot is to the lid. I'd add a "self-basting" feature, like the Mario Batali Dutch Oven has, or the ridges that serve the same purpose on other high-end cast iron cookware. This is certainly a minor issue, however, and I would recommend this product to anyone.
