4.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
The Cuisinart CPT-35 is a relatively inexpensive, no frills toaster, so you can't expect much from it. It toasts well, although you can't leave the setting on 3 and expect it to toast a frozen bagel as well as a thin slice of wheat bread. You DO have to change the settings for individual items. The extra wide slot is great for large, specialty shop bagels. The cancel...

First you can disregard my first review of this product as I was premature in my accessment. Purchased 9/02, a few weeks ago it started making a loud buzzing noise when you tried to start it, so we quit using it for a few days, when we tried using it a few days later it did not make the noise but it only toasts on one side. There are two adults in this house, this toaster is not heavly used.
I contacted Cuisinart giving them the model#, Serial # ect.. In order for them to honor their 3 year warranty one has to jump through hoops by
1) Packaging the item, and mailing it back to them at your own expense.
2) Send them payment of $$ to cover the cost for them to ship you a replacement unit.
I imagine not many folks have the time to do all of the above, I know I do not and if you figure out how much it costs you in time and money you have spent the cost of a new toaster running around and packaging/paying for shipment. I suppose putting all these conditions on their Warranty makes for not having to honor it very much. I am really glad I did not pay $65.00 for this toaster. As I told Cuisinart I will purchase a new toaster but it will not be a Cuisinar!

The extra wide slot is great for large, specialty shop bagels. The cancel button works as an ejector so you don't have to force up the toasting lever. The crumb tray slides out easily for cleaning.

In case you can't tell from the picture, this is a long, narrow machine - the two slices go side by side, not across from each other. The construction is lightweight, at least compared to my old T-Fal toaster.

You won't find fancy features with this toaster. The cancel button and the wide slot are the only notable features, and they are hardly high-tech. For an inexpensive toaster, the Cuisinart works as well as can be expected.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so toasty toaster!!, December 30, 2003
By
I purchased this toaster in September of 2002 from AMAZON.COM. I chose it because of the brand reputation, the fact that it is slender and would not stick out on the counter top, it is a basic toaster , with only two people in our home it was not about to get heavy use and we could do bagels with the wide slots. I was happy with this appliance until a few weeks ago. When you pushed the lever down to start the toaster it would make a very loud buzzing sound, so we stopped using it. When we started using it again it did not make the buzzing sound but it now toasts on only one side! While I realize what I paid for this toaster is not a huge amount I still expect it to perform longer than it did, considering the little use it gets. So now I pull out my receipts and warranty and hopefully can get a replacement.

2.0 out of 5 stars Perplexed, August 13, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cuisinart CPT-35BK Heat Surround Electronic Toaster, Black (Kitchen)
We had a Black & Decker toaster that didn't toast. We read the ratings and felt the extra money spent on a Cuisinart was well worth the cost if the toaster toasted. The first thing we tried was English muffins...the toaster took forever and didn't toast the muffins. We turned the settings the entire way up, but the result was still inadequate. The Cuisinart doesn't toast anything so far but bread. I could do that in my broiler. Needless to say we are perplexed, unsatisfied with the product and disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and it works well, October 17, 2001
By A Customer
Bought this toaster for my dear old Mom
She loves it, and she is picky about her morning
bagel. Very simple to use, bagels, toast whatever...
She said she has no complaints.
It is BIG however, if you are short on counter space,
make some room.

So now my wife wants one...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best toaster ever!, October 14, 2003

I have been very pleased with every Cuisinart appliance we have (food processor, hand mixer, ect.) and this is no exception.

The large slot fits the biggest of bread with ease. In Idaho we have a local company that makes a bread called Yummy Wheat and this bread is huge (4.5-5 inches tall and 6-7 inches long). Trying to toast this bread in our old toaster was a pain, you would have to stick the bread in on it's side which of corse left 2 or more inches sticking out of the toaster. Then you would have to flip it around to get the rest of the bread toasted, unfortunately you would have these nice toasted edges, but the middle would be burnt.

The pull out crumb tray makes it easy to clean. No more shaking the toaster upside down over the sink to get it clean. And the three year warranty, how can you go wrong.

KitchenAid- 1 year warranty. $69.99
Cuisinart- 3 year warranty. $39.99 <-- Better buy.

If you want a toaster that will last a long time, have consistently browned toast, and looks great buy this toaster, you wont be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Toaster I have Ever Had, January 8, 2003
By A Customer
I admit I was hesitant about ordering this toaster after I read the reviews, but after receiving this toaster I am so glad I ordered it!! It is as long as a 4 slot toaster but not as wide. The 2 inch opening allows you to put things in that you never could have put in a conventional toaster. I toasted a bagel whole and I didn't have to cram it in there and it was a big fat bagel. It came out crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. My daughter folded a flour tortilla and put it in and it came out crispy like a taco. Which made me think how would tacos work. They come out sizzling and perfect. Much better than the oven. Also we love the deli style sour dough bread that is oversized and long. I used to have to toast them in the oven. It fit perfectly in the toaster. I love the cancel button so that you don't have to force the lever back up. It also did frozen waffles and pancakes to perfection. I would give it 5 stars, but it didn't toast plain white bread as well as everything else. The thinner white bread had a graduation of shading from darkest on the top to white still on the very bottom. I have found the thicker the item the better the quality. Over all I am very glad I got this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk!!, December 30, 2002
Almost every morning my wife yells "when are you going to throw this toaster away!" We have had it for approximately two years, and even when brand new, it has never toasted evenly. Sometimes for no apparent reason and with no relationship to whether it is hot or cold (and no explanation in the instructions) the toast won't stay down and an extremely loud buzz (it makes the cats flee the kitchen!) that sounds like an alarm comes out of it. Hitting the cancel button, unplugging it, won't "reset" it, it just stops buzzing and starts working again when it feels like it. Sometimes the toast won't stay down and there is no buzz. Buy another brand!

2.0 out of 5 stars UNEVEN TOASTING AND TIMER KNOB DOESN'T GIVE ENOUGH TIME, February 18, 2002
By A Customer
I know it's a [poor] toaster, but I would have expected a minimum level of quality. The bread toasts unevenly, no matter what kind of bread we have tried. The timing is unreliable, and changes from use to use. We have ours set on 5 (darkest), and often have to send the toast back through for another go around -- when we then have to peer into the toaster and pop it up when it is brown or risk burning. I wish I had another chance -- but now that I've bought it I'm stuck with this one until it breaks. Maybe I'll get it right the second time around. IT WON'T BE A CUISINART THE NEXT TIME.

I had my toaster 2 years it never toasted evenly burned edges before the middle browned. Even worse the realease button broke off making the toaster useless. My best friend returned hers right away as I should have.
