Product Description

Size: 2-Slice

The stylish stainless 2-Slice Countdown Metal Toaster by Cuisinart takes toasting to a whole new level. Separate controls defrost waffles before toasting, reheat toast without more browning and reduce heat on uncut side of bagels. Seven browning settings and self-adjusting slots mean thick and thin slices are toasted as desired. LCD countdown toasting-time bar display makes it easy to keep track. Perfect toast, English muffins, bagels and more.

I like the bagel feature.

Overall this is a really nice looking toaster so you can leave it on the counter, but more importantly it works great.
Matt
Doesn't toast both sides of bread even.

Nice looking and nice performing toaster! I like the bagel feature. It crisps the inside and not the outside of each bagel half. I like to use the bagel setting on English muffins; it makes the inside crunchy while keeping the outside softer. Countdown feature tells you how much time is left before the toast is finished. Also it has a "push-up" feature for easy removal of smaller items. Great toaster!

On delivery the box had puncture due to shipper, and the toaster was dented. Amazon replaced it promptly. New toaster works fine. We like the countdown, the bagel adjustment, and being able to raise the toast by the lever (after toasting) to grasp it. Very very slight difference in toasting amount on each side, not objectionable at all. Haven't used warming feature yet but we're glad its available. Would buy the same toaster again.

Our old toaster gave out so we decided to go with this model due to customer feedback and consumer ratings. Overall this is a really nice looking toaster so you can leave it on the counter, but more importantly it works great. We do mostly toast and some premade waffles for the kids and we have been impressed with the results. The toaster has bars in the window that count down to give you an idea how long it will be until the toast is done and then chimes when it is ready. We did have to do some playing around to find out which level was right for our toast (toaster has 7 levels). Our favorite levels turned out to be level 3 and level 4 (well toasted, but still a little moist in the center with whole wheat bread). Level 7 will definitely give you some very dark and dry toast. I haven't played with the bagel, reheat or defrost modes yet so I am not sure how those will work.

Brushed aluminum cabinet regularly shows finger prints. Bread is toasted unevenly. The silly (safety) layout/location of the power cord comes out below the face/control end of the toaster and is not long enough to traverse the side of the toaster to the power outlet.

***Updated review: Several months after I wrote the review below, the toaster ~stopped working entirely~. Someone elsewhere in these reviews said that this Consumer Reports Touted item stopped working after about 8 weeks - That's approximately the point at which it failed to work for me.***

Having bought many inexpensive but defective toasters, I decided to splurge. I was expecting a significant upgrade from an item highly rated by Consumer Reports.

Unfortunately, it has exactly the same set of defects as the 'el cheapo' made in China junk I've owned previously:

(1) Doesn't toast a thick slice like an English Muffin or moderately thick slice all the way through --- even on the highest '7' setting.
(2) Doesn't toast evenly on both sides: a bit burnt on one side while uncooked on the other.
(3) Sometimes goes from not really toasted at all to burnt with no intervening setting.
(4) Doesn't fully 'lift up' smaller items like a standard Thomas's English Muffin that is found in every supermarket in America, so you have to do the Try To Spear It With A Fork or Knife Trick.
(5) The side panels heat up so you need to be careful not to touch them.

Not one of these should be a difficult problem to overcome--a toaster is not a complicated piece of machinery. Yet it seems the engineering intelligence used to put a man on the moon has not yet been marshalled to make a good basic toaster.

At least I've never found one that meets all five of the above requirements.

MORAL (based on this and other purchases):

Never rely on Consumer Reports. For all their expensive laboratiories whatever testing the brainiacs over there are doing, whatever rating criteria they are using both seem to be as defective as this toaster.

First slice of toast perfect, second slice of toast perfect, third slice of toast the toaster broke. The lever that holds the toast down no longer stays down.

First, I plan to return this toaster. My main disappointment with it is that it toasts one side nicely but the other side is much lighter; I like my toast TOASTED. This happens whether I use one--my usual--or two slices. The info that came with the toaster said this would happen when two slices were toasted. The toaster has more options than I need/use, but they probably are handy for others. Split bagels fit nicely; I use regular settings rather than the "bagel" setting since I like both sides toasted. I would be happy with this toaster and keep it IF it toasted single slices evenly on each side! I have had this toaster for almost a month, with occasional use.

I went through 2 of these toasters in the span of a week. The first would only toast on the left side. Sent it back. The second would only toast on the right side. Cuisanart has a quality control problem. Back to using my 20 year old toaster till I can find another toaster to try!! At least the return was easy
