Satisfied Kansas Toasters,
By "cooppvks" (Prairie Village, KS USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cuisinart CPT-65 4-Slice Electronic Toaster (Kitchen)
I bought this a year ago and have been very happy with it. It's well made, easy to clean, looks good - and toasts great. The slots are plenty wide for bagels and it easily fits four standard sized pieces of bread (or waffles, etc). However, you it will only accomodate two slices of larger bread (eg. Healthy Choice or Earth Grains). The only improvement I would suggest is they should make it about 1/2 inch taller - part of a large bagel can stick out the top and not get as toasted as the rest. We never use the defrost or reheat buttons. We use the bagel button (although I really don't know what it does) and the 2-slice button is nice for saving electricity. Smaller items can be removed more easily after toasting by lifting the lever on the right. Overall, I'm very happy with my decision to purchase this toaster.

Cuisinart 4-SliceToaster,
By Walter E. Petrie (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews

For the price I expected a better, more even browning. I found it to be no more even than a relatively cheap (about $40) 4-slice toaster it replaced. One side (the interior) of each of the two compartments had weaker heating than the other making one side of the toast much lighter than the other. The two-slice option is nice and the electronic darker/lighter control is convenient.

When you first plug in this toaster, an LED display, front bottom center, indicating your "darkness preference" glows red whether or not you have pressed the lever for toasting. The instruction booklet offers no information about this light. I called Cuisinart's 800 number and eventually received word that Yes, that's normal, and Yes, they get loads of calls about that light, since consumers are in fact in the dark regarding whether it should be on at all times. Evidently Cuisinart forgot to write about it in their booklet. So your toaster will have a little red light on - even when in "Park," with the ignition off - just like your car's alarm system. The toast seemed fine, and the capacity is good. There is a much-touted electronic function ("Custom Control") that enables the toaster to "remember" how you like your toast. If you think about it, most toasters of the past forty or so years have had this simple ability, albeit mechanically. The toaster is big enough, the spring-loaded lever is too resistant to feel right, and - inscrutably - the rear plastic feet of this toaster wear sensible non-skid rubber shoes, while the front feet are unshod, causing the toaster to not quite stay put each time you depress that hefty lever. This big and comparatively expensive toaster hopes to convey an impression of high quality and tech-y smartness, but doesn't quite succeed. And the glowing red light just seems silly, because a toaster doesn't need to look like it has a security system.

The perfect space-age toaster,

Though I have a sneaking fondness for those old-fashioned, bulbous chrome toasters, I like having perfectly toasted bread even more. I'm a dark-toast person, my husband is a light-toast person, and we both get what we want with the handy button adjustment on the Cuisinart toaster. Best of all, the slot's wide enough to toast a bagel nicely. It's the spiffiest appliance in our kitchen.

We've had this toaster for almost 2 years now and we love it! The slots are large enough (length- & width-wise) for bagels and large bread. Everything's electronic so it's very easy to use -- no dials. There's a reheat option that will heat the bread just long enough to re-warm it without burning your toast! Also a defrost option for those frozen items. The best thing about this toaster is that it's possible to turn off the heating element for the second row with a touch of a button if you're only toasting two pieces of bread.I've been able to toast bagels, pastries, bread, and english muffins perfectly -- whether frozen or thawed. Overall the toaster is sleek & stylish and super easy to use. Easy to clean. Great and consistant results everytime.

Good enough,

I wanted to alert you to a problem I had originally with this toaster and one which several other reviewers also had---and one I solved! The first time I put in my bread it only toasted on one side. I found out that this was due to my not putting it in the correct slot---if you only are toasting 1 or 2 slices, you must put it in the front slot, not the back. The second time, the bread toasted beautifully. This toaster is fine but doesn't really have the oomph-factor. It is very big (takes up lots of room on the countertop) and not deep enough to toast the tops of tall bread. Other than that, its fine. But pricey--I don't think that it provides enough bang for the buck.

Great unit if you can read instructions.,
This review is from: Cuisinart CPT-65 4-Slice Electronic Toaster (Kitchen)
This is a great toaster unless you are technically challenged as I suspect some Senior Citizens who reviewed earlier are. Reading the instructions will answer all your questions and allow you great results with your breads. The light will stay on when you are not using it. Thus, the instructions plainly state to unplug the toaster when not in use. I am sure this would also extend the life of the toaster too. I freeze all my breads now and then use the defrost setting and it works very well and cooks very evenly. I love not having my breads spoil. Again, READ the instructions. A little common sense goes a long way.

So Far, So Good!,
This review is from: Cuisinart CPT-65 4-Slice Electronic Toaster (Kitchen)
I've had my toaster for about 3 months now, and have had no problems whatsoever. Although the red light that is on all the time, did cause us some consternation at first, but now I'm used to it's red glow. This toaster cooks bagels beautifully, and I love the large slots. I guess one of my only real gripes about it is that there is no bell or ring that signals when the toast pops up, this would be convenient if you happen to be away from the kitchen when the toast is ready. I love my toaster and it looks beautiful on my kitchen counter.

Perfect toaster -- perfect toast,

I did a lot of shopping around before deciding on this sleekly-designed just-what-I-wanted toaster. I wanted the long opening to fit the long slices of bread, which traditional toasters don't accommodate, and I wanted it to easily toast bagels without having to crush them into the slot. I wanted it simple but elegant in design, white and unobtrusive on my kitchen counter, and I wanted it to be electronic, with a button that slides down smoothly and pops up easily. I wanted to be able to control the toasting darkness with a visual, uncomplicated control. I got everything I wanted with a lower price than other toasters of a similar quality and design, plus some bonus extras, like a defroster, a one-slice control, and a few other useful buttons. Its sleek design sits against the back of the countertop, not taking up valuable space more forward on the counter where I do my other kitchen counter work. I have no problem with it tipping over as one other reviewer stated. I waited a long time to find this toaster, and I am very happy with my choice!

Expensive toaster doesn't live up to the hype,

I bought this toaster to replace my toaster oven after reviewing the subject in Consumer Reports, so I thought I knew what I was getting. Having read the box, I thought the bagel setting would brown the bagel on just one side. What this toaster does is brown it extra long on two sides, so I got dried out burnt bagels. They claim larger pieces of bread, bagels and muffins contain more moisture so need a longer cooking time to brown, compared to standard bread. I find my Lender's Big and Crusty bagels do just fine as regular toast, no need for the bagel setting, and no way to just toast the inside. They also claim to have "Always Even Shade Control". This does not mean your toast is homogeniously brown, it isn't, just that time after time it will toast the same way. I thought there was something wrong with my toaster, because ... mine has coils that heat up red and hot on the outside, and inconsistently and overall about half as much internally. I could understand if my toast was consistently more done on one side with that coil arrangement, but I tend to see the outer facing sides slightly more brown, and the inner facing sides brown on top and pale on the bottom. To say this toaster has "Always Even Shade Control" is misleading at best. I'm stuck with this toaster for a few reasons: 1. My wife likes it, especially because we bought it in black and that matches our other appliances, and it toasts 4 slices whereas the Kitchenaid only does 2, for the same ... price. 2. My wife is friendly with the people we bought it from, and does not want to hurt them by retiuning it. 3. Apparently mine is not defective, they all heat and brown unevenly. Another reviewer claims they don't hold up well after a year; ordinarily that would bother me. |
