5.0 out of 5 stars A toast to the Cuisinart!
I HATE hate hate most toasters on the market. They are for the most part, flimsy plastic things that can't be repaired. One EXPENSIVE deceased toaster we owned had a tiny plastic hook that held the spring for popping up the toast. When this little hook gave up the ghost, the toaster was uh, toast, so to speak. No repair part available. We then went with a cheap toaster...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Eye candy
This is without a doubt the smartest looking toaster on the market. There are a few problems, however. The slots can't accommodate any toast that isn't standard size. It also has an annoying habit of popping the toast completely "out" of the toaster. However, looks won out for me.

We then went with a cheap toaster after this experience, and the central element burned out the first time we used it. Fizz, pop, dead. I once heard a prominent radio host go through the same discussion on air; seems he also was searching for the perfect toaster and had come up short time and again. Well, our search seems to be over.

This toaster is substantial in feel, has the classic 50's streamline look, and has wide enough slots for our homemade bread or for bagels and muffins. It worked perfectly right out of the box. It has a cancel-button to stop the toasting (I had one toaster that you had to UNPLUG to get it to stop.) The price for the reconditioned model was very good.

We love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Like New???, June 1, 2004
By A Customer

I thought I'd take a chance on this Factory-Reconditioned item since the item was described as "Like New". Well if scratched and a huge dent is considered like new then I guess I got what I paid for. I would possibly live with the dent if it were in a less conspicuous location. It seems that buying a Cuisinart Factory-Reconditioned item is a game of russian roulette as far as physical condition is concerned. Now I have the pleasure of paying for the return shipping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Toasting can be uneven., August 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart CPT-70FR Toaster (Kitchen)
This toaster is beautiful. I love the way it looks and how large the toasting slots are. The reheat and defrost features are also nice. It toasts well although seems to toast the bottom half of the bagel/toast more darkly than the top. I am still getting used to the settings however, and will hopefully rectify that. You should read the directions that come with it because they are helpful. For instance, it tells you if you are toasting only one piece of bread to turn down the dial because the chamber heats up as if it were toasting two slices and if only one is in there, it will over-toast it. Good to know! Overall, I like the toaster and am glad I purchased it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value for reconditioned, but toasting is uneven, May 17, 2003

I wouldn't hesitate to go the reconditioned route again, but I think I got one that has the bottom-toasts-darker-than-the-top problem. Both slots seem to have the same degree of this problem. The toast comes out either not toasted enough at the top, or too dark at the bottom, depending on how high the setting is (duh). Don't know if this will get worse over time, I've only had it about a month. Otherwise it seems well-constructed and looks great. It only had one or two tiny dings in the surface when I got it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal, February 16, 2005
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart CPT-70FR Toaster (Kitchen)
I've had my reconditioned Cuisinart toaster for several months now and I have to say that it was one of the best purchases I've made with Amazon. I do think you take a small risk when you go with a reconditioned model but at this price, I was willing to take that risk.

My unit arrived with a very small dent on the front of the toaster but unless I point it out, no one notices it. I like the retro look very much and find it to be an asset to the appearance of my kitchen. As far as toasting performance, I have only positive things to say. My bagels come out evenly toasted every time. The cancel button works well if you think your breads are getting overdone. I've never had anything spring out with such force that it landed on a counter or floor but my breads may be weightier than your average store bought bread.

I am surprised to read some of the less than satisfactory reviews but perhaps it is the luck of the draw. I'm a happy customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Every Time, March 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart CPT-70FR Toaster (Kitchen)
I bought this reconditioned toaster from Amazon over a year ago, and I have been very happy with it. Cuisinart put a lot of thought into how people use their toasters. For example, there is a handy "defrost" button for making frozen waffles; you can use either slot to make a single slice; and the cord coils up beneath the appliance. Also, if you press down for a second cycle of browning, the toaster senses when the toast is done and pops it up before it has a chance to burn. In addition to its great performance, this toaster is beautiful to look at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality toaster with vintage styling, November 25, 2001

Before buying this toaster, I read all the reviews about this and a few other toasters. I'm very happy with the purchase! The toaster has a substantial weight and feel to it; it's sturdy and dependable. I think the purchase of a reconditioned toaster has been a great way for me to have superior quality at an affordable price; I'd do it again in a second.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could the quest be over?, October 31, 2001

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart CPT-70FR Toaster (Kitchen)
I've been searching for a basic toaster that would toast bread and bagels for over a quarter century. It seems that there is never any such thing as a good quality toaster available in most kitchen stores. This may be one.

As well as it's classic looks and more than generous slots hopefully this machine will last for a long time. It's easy to use, easy to clean and looks great sitting on the counter. I guess my only gripe is that the heating elements tend to heat faster near the bottom of the slots than they do in the top center area. Had I paid full retail, I'd be less than thrilled with this, but getting it at the reconditioned price I'm extremely pleased.

read the title. I mean it. My favorite food on planet earth is the toaster pastry and this is the toaster I use to heat them up daily. It delivers just the right amount of crispy goodness to start off my day with a smile on my face. How much did I pay? I don't remmeber. I don't care. There is no other toaster for me now but this one. Don't tell my wife.
