Mixing - The two speed operation is handy. For making soups, you can do most of the job on low speed, even with chunky vegetables. This makes it easier to control how thick the final product is, and it makes for less possibility of splash-ups. The switch feel is sure (good tactile feel). The blade is stocky and sharp - it looks like it's built for business. I blended a large pot of tomato black bean garlic soup down in under 30 seconds.

Motor - Plenty of power. It's quiet compared to my last blender (especially on low), which was 3x the price. I cannot comment on durability yet, as this is a new model.

Size/weight/feel - Hefty, but not heavy. It has a quality feel with a nice balance. If it were too light, it would feel cheap.

Cord - Long enough to get the job done, but not too long to make wrapping up the cord a hassle.

Assembly/Cleaning - Easy to attach/detach. The lock-up feels solid. So far, there's little mechanical play in the interface. It's very easy to clean by hand if you don't wait for it to dry up.

I've grown to like Cuisinart products. It looks like they have a winner here.

4/10/2013 update - I've had this for several months now, and I can say the concern about the plastic gear on the prior version does not appear to be an issue on this design. I've used it dozens of times and there is not a hint of wear. Bumping to 5 stars. It's one of my favorite kitchen tools.

11/17/2013 update - Still going strong. This is my single favorite kitchen tool, and I have lots of them. It's the best combination of usefulness and fun factor. So nice not to have to drag out the food processor for so many tasks any more. I just made a super creamy hummus (in the can, no less) in under five minutes. Fast, yummy, inexpensive and so easy to clean up afterwards.

I have had my Smart Stick for few weeks and am loving it! So easy to use, clean, and store. I am enjoying many more healthy smoothies in the morning, along with delicious soups for lunch. I learned NOT to lift it up too high when blending. (Opps!)
Easy applesauce....I peeled and cut apples, simmered them down, added some cinnamon, and nutmeg.....and gave them a whirl. Delicious! Also made a sweet potato and carrot mix, simmered, drained, added some ginger, and easily whipped it into a side dish my grandchildren loved!
So far...so very good!! Glad I bought it. Arrived promptly and no problems.

Update: 4/23/13: Ignore the words above!!! After maybe 10 uses, none of them on challenging mixes, my Smart Stick has broken. The plastic gear inside looks rough and ragged. The blade barely turns. It happened as I attempted to blend cooked carrots into a soup. I never used it on anything that seemed too solid, so I am very disappointed as I really liked it. Some of the other reviewers mentioned the plastic gear as a weak spot and they were right. Why doesn't Cuisinart make that gear metal rather than plastic??? Buyer beware!

I purchased this thinking I'd use it to make smoothies in the summertime, when it became too hot to cook breakfast and a cool, creamy fruit concoction would satisfy. But I needed to take it for a test-drive in March, on the off-chance I'd need to return it for some reason. While I also purchased a 30-oz stainless steel milkshake cup like they use in diners, the Smart Stick comes with its own 16-oz plastic mixing cup. I started with about a cup of 2% milk, added a sliced overripe banana, a few big spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt, a T. of honey, 2 healthy dashes of cinnamon, a dribble of vanilla extract and a handful of ice cubes. I was hooked. The next morning, I added fresh (overripe) strawberries to my recipe. On my next grocery run, I bought several bags of frozen fruit -- raspberries, mangoes, strawberries -- and some frozen yogurt. Now I could eliminate the ice cubes, which dilute the beverage if it sits awhile. The Smart Stick was not intimidated by any of the ingredients. Having both a low and high speed, I just connect the top and bottom with a quick click, submerge the blender into the ingredients and begin with the low setting, to get things moving, then switch to high speed to blend everything into a beautifully smooth smoothie. I've now had it for about 2 weeks, and have made around 9 or 10 morning smoothies. Today, I had a chocolate milk/raspberry/cinnamon smoothie. When the weather warrants, I'm going to try frozen gimlets and margaritas! I can't think of any features I don't like.Read more ›

This product has a cheap plastic piece the same as previous models that wears out quickly. It is where you connect the 2 pieces together.I had one that was out of warranty and no replacement part available. I was hoping the new model would fix the problem. It had not changed. I found out after ordering the product so l returned the box without even opening it.
