Customer Reviews

Good dough blender, sturdy and easy to use and clean.

I have looked in MANY kitchen stores for a pastry blender like this (with the sharp "blades" rather than the round, flimsy wires).

I got this to cut butter into flour for making biscuits, and it works great for that.

This may be an unimportant minor kitchen tool, but not only does it blend dough, it easily minces tuna and boiled eggs very finely for tuna or egg salad sandwiches. I had used an old dough blender similar to this for ages, but it eventually stress-fractured at the very thin joints, thus I replaced it with the only thing I was able to find in stores, a similarly styled tool but with FLEXIBLE wires like on a wire whisk. It was worthless; a true engineering disaster. Finally, disgusted, I looked online and found this. It has been wonderful to have a useful dough blender again.

I purchased this item through Amazon about 4 months ago to replace a Pampered Chef blender that broke at the weld. I wanted one that was comfortable to my hand as I have very long fingers and arthritis as well. I read reviews on this item and felt it would meet my needs very well. The blades looked sturdy, not flimsy wires. The problem with this blender is that the plastic handle pulled from the metal base part of the handle and so you have no handle to use. The screws are not long enough to attach down into the metal securely. I have only used this item twice. I love the way the handle fits my hand but the construction end is very poorly thought out or I have the only faulty one made.
I haven't yet called Amazon but will do so today. I am not overly concerned with them not giving me a refund as the Customer Service has always treated me fairly. I have no doubts they will on this as well. I am not going to replace it with the same though. I am going to go with the one that is all metal. Maybe have better luck on that one. Oh and yes, I was cutting cold butter into flour to make a pie crust.
Add on to this review. I couldn't return this product as I guess there is a time limit. That kinda bummed me out as it is a very poorly made item...

My grandmother's dough blender lasted for over 60 years, and I wish I hadn't thrown it away because I started baking pies and needed one. A dough blender is not very expensive, and feeling upscale at the moment I decided to splurge on this nice-looking Cuisinart model for a few dollars more. Huge mistake! This piece of junk lasted through six pies before it fell apart. One might think that the handle of a dough blender could be molded in one piece, but no. While making my seventh pie with it, suddenly it felt painful in my hand, and to my surprise I saw that a whole piece had fallen out. It was the most important piece, too -- the piece with the Cuisinart name on it! Where it disappeared to I have no idea, probably in the trash, but it left a gaping hole with two spikes sticking up. The only way I could finish blending my dough was to wrap the handle in a wash cloth, not a practical solution for a product I had intended to use for the rest of my life. Thinking they might be embarrassed by their own shoddy product, I sent a polite note to Cuisinart asking them if they would like to replace it. They were gracious enough to reply and advised me it would cost me $7.00 in shipping to return the dough blender and get another. (Mr. Coffee sent me a brand new coffeemaker by overnight mail, no questions asked and at their own expense when I complained that the one I purchased leaked.) This certainly tarnishes the name of Cuisinart for me. I don't think I'll be purchasing any more Cuisinart products, because who knows what Cuisinart-emblazened parts might suddenly fall off? Please take a look at the customer image I uploaded.

This Dough Blender works fantastically...not just for blending dough, but meats as well. We used it to blend our meatloaf and the result was great.

The product is very sturdy and handles great I really like it a lot use it for blending many things including cutting through ground chuck when cooking for chili when the meat is frozen. It makes it nice and small pieces perfect for chili or tacos or soup

I use this mainly to make pie dough, but it's also useful for chopping or mashing other stuff. It's quite sturdy and the metal part does not rotate around the handle. There are 2 issues that I have with it, however.
1. The blades are blunt. The last time I used one of these (before I bought this) was maybe 10 years ago, and I remember the blades being sharper. These blades tend to squish cold butter rather than slicing through it.
2. You have to wash it carefully by hand to get it clean. Due to the design, food can accumulate in the corners and the dishwasher cannot get rid of it all.

Overall, I think it's pretty good. It's made pie making a lot easier (I used to use forks before this) It's also really hard to find in stores for some reason, so I'm glad Amazon carries it.

I make a lot of pies, and get a lot of use out of my pastry cutters. Until I purchased this one, I'd been using pastry cutters that consisted of wires attached to a handle. It fell apart, and I purchased this one, because I was tired of cheap ones that fell apart in six months. I'm happy I did. This pastry cutter reduces the time it usually takes me to cut the butter into my pie dough by about half. The blades were sharp, and didn't get clogged with butter like most pastry cutters do. I've made a couple of pies with it, and because this cutter is so quick, the butter is less soft, and my dough is remarkably flakier. Highly recommended.
