The whistle seems adequately loud.

We've had it less than two weeks, used it a few times and it has already started to rust along the bottom seam.

I just contacted Cuisinart through their website inquiry and will see if they respond.

After many years of using a teapot that only had a spout opening for filling with water, I was thrilled to get the Cuisinart Valor Tea Kettle. It's nice to be able to see and clean the inside of the teapot when needed. The teapot has a nice brushed stainless steel finish. It's easy to fill with water and has a maximum fill line indicator on the outside of the teapot. The spout lever can be held open with your finger or you can press the lever all the way and the spout cover will remain open until you press the lever again. I was a little concerned about the manufacturer's instructions not to use the teapot on HIGH heat, but I have been using it on MEDIUM to MEDIUM-HIGH and it heats water to boiling within a few minutes on an electric stove. Yes, the teapot does whistle when the water is boiling, but it's a quiet whistle . . . not at all loud or obnoxious. I have no trouble hearing it from the next room, but probably wouldn't hear it if I were upstairs. The teapot pours without any drips or dribbles and looks very attractive sitting on my stove. Very happy with this purchase.

I bought this kettle because my old enameled kettle had started to rust inside and this one is supposedly stainless steel. We've had it less than two weeks, used it a few times and it has already started to rust along the bottom seam. Ridiculous. And, of course, I've thrown away the box (who would have thought a Cuisinart kettle would have to be returned?) so I can't even return it.

UPDATE: After about 13 months of use, the kettle was left with some water in it for a few weeks while traveling, and the bottom seam rusted, as another reviewer experienced. For a product made from all stainless steel, this should not be possible. Apparently they have a band of steel in the seam, or it uses non-stainless steel with stainless steel cladding, and the exposed edge is rusting. Seems like a design flaw. The kettle is now leaking from that seam. I'll be contacting Cuisinart to see if they will replace it, but unless they have changed the design, I no longer recommend this product. Downgrading to 2 stars.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Many kettles seem to be built with a large block of aluminum or steel in the base. This seems rather pointless in a kettle, where even heat is irrelevant. This kettle has a thin wall base. I doubt it will impact its longevity, and it keeps it light.

It has good capacity without taking up much space. I've seen other designs that flair out at the bottom, making the kettle appear quite large.

It has a fairly large opening that should facilitate easy filing and cleaning.

The mechanics, while mostly plastic, seem to be of decent quality. Nothing too frail that it is likely to break quickly.

The whistle mechanism is made of of a couple of pieces of metal press fit together (with a spring in between), and it has fallen apart a few times. Easy enough to press the parts together again, and it seems to hold for several weeks, but it seems like a design flaw that will need to be addressed. (I'll have to fix it by putting a kink in one the parts to increase the friction, or perhaps use a high temperature glue.)

The manufacturer recommends you set your burner on medium, rather than high, which means it takes a bit longer for water to boil. (About 10 minutes.)

The whistle seems adequately loud. When it activates, it turns on in a burst, rather than slowly ramping up.

My previous tea kettle lasted more than ten years. This ones' handle broke within the first month - a total waste of money.

I purchased this kettle because I wanted a kettle with a handle that was heat resistant, stainless steel and a good brand. When I saw this kettle I figured I couldn't go wrong with cuisinart and it was stainless steel and had the heat resistant handle, or so I thought. Sad to say this was a disappointment. The handle got extremely hot to the touch. I had to use a towel to hold the handle. For this reason I had to put it back in the box and go back to my old kettle until I could find one that truly works for me.
