Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This space-age cutlery set is a flashy acquisition for trendsetters that also offers top performance for discriminating cooks. The set includes an 8-inch chef’s knife--which works equally as well for slicing paper-thin rounds of carrots as it does for chopping a huge butternut squash into chunks; an 8-inch slicer for carving poultry or meat; a 5-inch serrated utility knife for cutting sandwiches in half or slicing tomatoes; and a 3-1/2-inch parer for peeling fruits or halving grapes. All knives fit into a hardwood block with modern stainless-steel accents along with a coarse-grit 9-inch sharpening steel for keeping knife edges honed, and a pair of 8-inch shears for cutting up a chicken or opening food packaging.

These Ultra Edge knives have heavy-gauge precision taper-ground blades for precise slicing and chopping. They are constructed of high-carbon Molybdenum steel, a material with a Rockwell hardness of 56 that maintains a knife’s razor-sharp edge longer before requiring professional sharpening. A high chromium content in these knives provides the highest level of protection from rusting, staining, and corrosion. Handles are made of 18/8 stainless steel with a slip-proof satin finish plus are ergonomically-designed for a comfortable grip. The handles on these knives are also weighted to provide the perfect amount of balance and excellent control. Cuisinart cutlery is guaranteed under a lifetime warranty. --Cristina VaamondeWhat’s in the Box

2.0 out of 5 stars 8" Knife tip cracked, March 5, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart Continental 7-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set in Black Hardwood Block (Kitchen)
The set has a pleasant visual appearance. I've owned it for over a year and it does a fair job. Chef knif use to go blunt quite often. And unfortunately, the tip of the 8" chef knife cracked and left me with dissapointment. I wouldn't buy this product again.

4.0 out of 5 stars High quality, beautiful knives, December 29, 2006
This review is from: Cuisinart Continental 7-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set in Black Hardwood Block (Kitchen)
I've had these knives for a couple of years, and they've served me very well. At first I was concerned that the metal handles may turn out to be slippery or uncomfortable to hold, but that turned out not to be the case. These knives are just as comfortable to hold as any with a wood or plastic handle, and are much easier to clean -- because they have no cracks or crevices that can fill with gunk.

I have been satisfied with their sharpness too, and managed to keep them razor sharp without any difficulty (using a mid-sized Chef's Choice electric sharpener).

I've deducted one star because the two top "edges" of the knives are sharper than usual and give me a paper-cut every once in a while if I'm not careful. Also, the kitchen scissors in the set aren't all that great (nor did I expect them to at this price).
