Disappointing longevity-- don't count on a long life.,

This review is from: Cuisinart DCC-100 Coffee Bar Classic 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
We were generally happy with the Cuisinart DCC-100-- while it lasted. A few months ago it started working intermittently. It wouldn't always brew the coffee. Finally it stopped working altogether. The hot plate was not very warm, and it looked as though the problem might be the thermostat. So we took the coffeemaker apart. There appear to be two coils--a high power unit for brewing the coffee, and a lower power coil for keeping it warm. A thermostat in a round white ceramic package monitors the temperature. It was open, even at room temperature, so the high power coil never went on. Took it apart. Found a very brittle plastic ring, and very corroded contacts. Opinion-- the thermostat is of poor quality. The contact materials appear to be of poor quality, very pitted, unable to sustain extended use. The brown plastic ring that actuates the contacts appears to be made of a material that cannot sustain the heat. This is based on a sample of just one unit, but my recommendation is to stay clear of this unit unless/until Cuisanart finds a new thermostat vendor and publicizes that action.

For 4 Years, A Reliable Morning Friend,

This review is from: Cuisinart DCC-100 Coffee Bar Classic 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
I have owned this little gem for four years. I used to have a Mr. Coffee 8-cup machine, but it started acting funny after a few years so I decided to upgrade to a bigger machine. I saw this at a really great price and picked it up and have not been happier. It uses a size four cone filter, just like some of the more fancy $100 models. Sorry, but you can't refit this one to take a goldtone filter to my knowledge. It has settings for how hot the water gets (cup selector switch on front) and the water flow (knob underneath the reservoir lid). Yes, the carafe is a little awkward in design and makes pouring those last two cups a challenge of dexterity, but I have to attest to the fact that I've had my machine for four years and it has been a consistent performer. It usually takes about 10 minutes to make 6 cups of coffee. My only complaint is that there is no timer feature and no ability to place a goldtone filter, but for the price I can't expect much more than what I got. Plus, if you don't moisten the paper filter so it sticks to the side of the basket, it may fold over and turn into a coffee burito. For a basic coffee maker that won't let you down, look no further.

Cuisinart DCC-100 Coffee Bar Classic 10 cup Coffeemaker,

This is the second time I have purchased this model coffeemaker. Over the years I've owned Bunn, Krups and Cuisinart. By far, the most consistantly good coffee comes from this little Cuisinart. I agree that you have to get the knack for pouring, or the coffee drips & if you do not carefully line up the swing out fliter you will get spillover. However, after the first few tries I did not have any problems at all. I was so happy with the years of service with my first one I went right out and bought it again.

Good coffee, great warranty and service,

I've been using DCC-100 for about 2 years. This coffee maker makes by far the best coffee. I've tried so many different machines. If you like dark strong coffee like me, you will like this machine. The slow brewing option for 1-3 cups is really great for brewing just a mug full of coffee. It is true that you have to be careful with the placement of the brewing basket, etc., but I had worse problems with other manufacturers' machines. The spring on the brewing basket gets weak after a year or so, and coffee starts to leak. However, it comes with a 3-year warranty. When I contacted their customer service by e-mail, they sent me a new brewing basket for free by UPS. I received it within a week, and could enjoy the good coffee again.

Great coffee maker for the price,

We find the Cuisinart DCC-100 a great little coffee maker. It is true that the swing out filter is hard to operate but it snaps in place when closed properly. When you pour out of the pot you can't lift the lid or it drips moisture, if you leave it closed and pour through the little spout it does fine. We love It!!!

I am so happy with my new Cuisinart DCC-100 coffee maker. What a cup of coffee it makes!! I know that the coffee and the water all factor into what makes a good cup of coffee, but believe me, the maker makes a big difference, too. It was very obvious that the Cuisinart made a superior cup to my Bunn. And the price...well you can't beat paying less than half the MSRP. I highly recommend this product.

Good Coffee - Bad Design,
By DENNIS N "DENAAS" (St. Louis) - See all my reviews

This pot make great coffee, but it is a disaster waiting to happen. The swing-out filter holder can appear to be closed (in the brewing position) but it is really not. As a result, all of the coffee runs out on the floor. Same thing happens if don't have the filter in exactly the right position. Coffee all over the place. This pot proves the old adage...you get what you pay for....and it was very cheap.

I really think this makes one of the best tasting and HOT cups of coffee of any other pots I may own. The only problem I had is that the little "plug" for stopping the drip if you want a cup of coffee while it is still brewing broke off within the first week I owned it, but it doesnt hurt anything and this pot brews so quickly, I dont mind the short wait. It does make GREAT GREAT Coffee.

Just OK,

After cracking the carafe again on my 12 year old Braun Idecided to replace the machine. I ran across this one at Wards [and] it had the 1-4 and 4-10 cup brew cycle I was looking for. It makes good coffee but the shape of the carafe makes pouring the last 2 to 3 cups difficult. The shape also makes it hard to reach inside and clean (fortunately I have lovely, petite hands). The swing out filter is much harder to open and close than my Braun was. I will replace this new coffeemaker with a Braun or Krups today.

The Cuisinart 10 cup coffeemaker truly does brew up good batches of coffee, whether it be a 3 or 4 cups to 10 cups. For the price, you definitely cannot beat the quality. Of course, this won't be the best coffee in the world, but for 30 dollars, you really can't complain.
