Everytime I pour a cup of coffee, I think to myself "I need to go write a review!" because of spillage. I can't seem to pour it in the maker itself or into a cup without spilling water or coffee. It's a very cute coffee maker and it makes about 2 medium sized coffee mugs of coffee. It keeps the coffee hot and the sneak a cup works fine for me. Never upset about how it...

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent coffee maker, December 12, 2005
As a student, my coffee pot is my life-blood. I adore this little guy. I've had it for about a year with no technical problems. I will agree with the other reviewers that the caraffe will dribble if you don't pour quickly, and it does not stay hot long after the auto shut-off. However, this is rarely a problem for me as I am hardly ever still around 30 minutes later (must be nice!). My coffee is perfect every time, the machine is easy to clean, and it's compact and fairly stylish.

One other warning: it has a feature where you can pour a cup before it is finished brewing (the filter basket blocks the drip if you remove the caraffe), but I would not recommend doing this. When coffee brews, it does not brew at the same strength for the entire brewing cycle. The water that first goes through the coffee grounds encounter more resistance, thus spending more time going through, thus making the beginning of the pot a lot stronger than the the last of it. You really need to let the whole pot (or however many cups you are making) finish brewing before drinking the coffee. This, too, is not something I've had much problem with, as the brew cycle is really fast - 5 minutes for 2 cups. Anyway, just a little coffee tip.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect coffee maker for one or two people, July 13, 2005

I have had this machine for a little over a week now, and am overjoyed. I have owned more expensive "full-size" machines, and have always found that the quality of the coffee they make is quite poor when you are only preparing three or four cups. This cuisinart is a pleasant change on that score. The coffee I made this morning was flavorful and hot, and certainly better than what I can get at Starbucks or the equivalent. I'm a bit baffled by the negative comments I have read about the machine's design. I've had not even a little trouble with pouring, removing the lid, etc. In short, get this machine if you want high quality coffee in three or four cup doses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the 4-cuppers, March 5, 2007
Cuisinart did it again! I bought this because I wanted a coffee maker for work that had an auto shutoff. They all make coffee but so few have the shutoff. This unit shuts itself off after 1/2 hour, which is perfect - the coffee is not ruined beyond hope by then and the workplace is secure from conflagration. In addition, it makes great coffee - of course that is dependent on the coffee and the amount you put in. I like it strong. I was afraid it would spew coffee on the inside as it brewed, which is what the Melitta of almost the same design does, and I was afraid it might leak, which the Mr. Coffee tends to do. I have owned the 4-cupper in those two brands, as well as a couple others. I don't find the carafe a problem, nor do I find the water reservoir a problem. The aforementioned brands each had their own quirks as well. In fact this one has the best reservoir fill procedure of all that I have owned.

I like that it has no glitz. Just make the coffee and in half an hour it shuts down. Perfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Take it or leave it, August 14, 2006

I selected this item because the black base and stainless steel carafe matched nicely with my other kitchen appliances. I also figured the stainless steel carafe would be more durable than a glass one. Now that I've got it though, its a bit bothersome not to be able to see the amount of coffee in the carafe without removing the lid. Although its less likely to dribble when pouring than my previous coffee maker, you can't pour out the last spoonful or so of coffee without holding it upside down and shaking it. Its also more awkward to fill the reservoir and to see how full it is than with my previous maker. Its too bad they don't make that model anymore. I've been using it for about a month now and other than the nuisances I've already described, its worked fine and appears to be solidly built. Still, I can take it or leave it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've never really owned any coffeemaker before, but this one seems okay. If you just want to have a cup or two at work, this is a good deal for the $$. The filters are easy to find anywhere. It doesn't take up much space. The coffee tastes pretty good to me. Its a little cumbersome pouring the water into the reservoir because of the lip on the pot, but you don't necessarily need to use that because inside the reservoir it has lines for the number of cups that is easy to see. One thing is, if you don't use the coffee up in a certain amount of time, the element shuts off automatically and the coffee may go cold before you get to it. Other than that, I would recommend this, its a great color, makes pretty good coffee, no real problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, March 21, 2007

Unfortunately, I have to say I am disappointed with this coffee pot. It is difficult to fill with water, it drips when I pour coffee from the carafe, it's hard to get the carafe in and out, it drips coffee all over the warming plate when using the pause-and-serve function, and the steam from the coffee burns my hand when I pour. I could overlook all of this if it made a good pot of coffee, but the metal carafe makes the coffee taste bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for one or two people, January 21, 2006

I bought this coffeemaker Spring 2005 and it's been wonderful. It brews enough for one or two regular mugs, or one large travel mug. It brews quickly, and the stainless-steel carafe and auto shut-off are welcome features. Best of all is its small footprint, which is great for small kitchens (I used to live in a 300 square-foot studio apartment, so this was the perfect size). In short, top-quality coffeemaker in a small size for a reasonable price.

2.0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag, June 20, 2004
By
Joe (Norfolk, MA United States) - See all my reviews
When the coffee maker first arrived, my wife loved the way it looked. The red and stainless steel are a nice change from the typical black or white plastic, and the small footprint was an asset in a small kitchen. However, a number of shortcomings have become evident. The design of the carafe is flawed: you can't pour out all the coffee without removing the cover. The black rubber feet leave marks on the counter. The light on the on/off switch is impossible to see in direct sunlight, and the rocker switch is annoying on its own merits. I wouldn't purchase this again, and my experience with other Cuisinart products has been disappointing. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find a well-designed four cup coffee maker at any price.
