4.0 out of 5 stars Nifty appliance; has a couple of bugs

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not stunning
This was the 2nd processor I tried and it certainly does the trick for small projects. I've had it for about a year. It's great if you want to make about a cup worth of something, which is why it's considered small. If you try to make too much of something then it will just pulverize what ever is on the bottom and leave the top unchopped or barely chopped. This can make...

Having picked this item up on an Amazon special, I must first say that the price-performance ratio is excellent. The machine comes with several blades and a chute attachment. If you have used a Cuisinart machine before, assembly and operation will be very, very simple. That the pieces are dishwasher safe is a boon, as well. I like this little processor; its small size is just right for our empty nest food prep.

There are a couple of things Cuisinart could perhaps rethink. It is awkward to remove the slicing or shredding blade. The plastic used on several of the pieces seems vulnerable to staining. The shredding blade seems, for some ingredients, to "pulverize" better than to shred. It would also be nice to have at least one other size of slicing disc and a plastic chopping blade included. Those refinements would make this machine nearly perfect for me.

Still, this sturdy workhorse is a welcome addition to our kitchen. Those who have smaller amounts of ingredients to prep will find that it is a useful complement to other kitchen tools.

The quality is amazing. Easy to use, easy to clean. This was my first Processor and I'm hooked. I use it almost every day and it's so small (or "compact") that it takes up very little counter-top space.
For the price, it's a great value. The only drawback is that I love it so much, I'm already thinking about buying one of Cuisinart's larger models that does even more stuff.

It comes with the one multipurpose blade (which does just about everything) and a separate slicing and shredding blade. The slicing and shredding blades work O.K. but not as great as on larger models I've seen - so I use the multi-purpose blade 90% percent of the time.
I wish they sold additional blades for this model but I haven't seen them. (That would probably take away from sales of the bigger models).
But I still love it. And give it my highest rating.

It's great if you want to make about a cup worth of something, which is why it's considered small. If you try to make too much of something then it will just pulverize what ever is on the bottom and leave the top unchopped or barely chopped. This can make processing anything more than a cup worth a time consuming effort, you have to put in the food, chop it, scrape it, and then repeat. I've found it especially useful for sauces and dips that need to be completely pureed. It's also great at chopping up nuts (like peanuts for Pad Thai!). I will probably graduate to a larger one eventually but for now it works for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Neatest Little Machine Ever, August 6, 2006

The bowl and drive-post sleeve of my 26-year-old Cuisinart food processor have finally developed cracks so I started looking for a new one. Since I no longer need a full-size processor, I decided to try the DFP-3 Handy Prep. It arrived just a few days after my order was placed with Amazon and I am delighted with it. It's sturdy, heavy base fits into a small space on the countertop and it chops and shreds as efficiently as the full-size machine for a fraction of the price. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars as good as the original, March 6, 2008

I recently purchased this mini food processor to replace a 25 year old "Cuisinart Pro" that gave up the ghost after some serious use. While, I don't know if this one will last another 25 years it does look like a smaller version of my original. The design and manufacturing seems identical and the results are the same regardless of capacity. If I remember correctly the "Pro" cost over $200; more than four times the current price of the smaller model.

I just want to add a note of advice to would be buyers of this appliance or any other food processor....What these things do well is puree ingredients into sauce bases, tapenades, soups, salsas and the like. Don't buy one expecting to throw away the paring or chef knives. If you are preparing large quantities of sliced vegetables you're better off with a mandolin or a good set of knives. I've always found the attachments to be generally more trouble than they're worth. But for a small preparation of the aforementioned foods, I don't think you can beat the Cusinart Handy Prep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this little guy!, January 26, 2007
This review is from: Cuisinart DFP-3 Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
I recently purchased this mini Cuisinart at Linens N Things on special, and I gotta say it's more than pulling its weight! I chop, blend, puree, shred, and grate, and I've even mixed pasta dough. I've used it at least three or four times a weeks since its purchase and it hasn't let me down. Cleaning cheese and dough out of the crevices in the lid is a little bit of a challenge sometimes, but if you have a toothpick or small cleaning brush, it's a minor hassle. I made chicken pot pie last night, and mixed the dough, shredded the chicken, and chopped the onions with this little bad boy. Defintely worth the price, especially for apartment dwellers like myself and my husband. I especially like that the machine won't start unless both the base and the lid are properly locked, so I know I'll be able to trust my daughter with it when she's old enough to help out in the kitchen. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not too Big, Not too Small, Just Right, January 8, 2008
This review is from: Cuisinart DFP-3 Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
Cuisinart DFP-3 Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor My husband is a chef and had this from college (20 years ago) when it finally broke we could not find a replacement. All were 7 or 11 cup or mini's. We tried them and they are fine for large jobs or "mini" jobs but this 3 cup is perfect for EVERYTHING dinner for 2 requires. I should know. I've had about 200 dinner's per year for 15 years made for me by a chef and most involved something made with this little guy. From Pesto, to various tapenade's to puree'd spaghetti sauce and so so much more, this little baby is perfect. We were so happy to find it here on line as it is pretty much impossible to find in stores anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh Salsa, October 9, 2004
This review is from: Cuisinart DFP-3 Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
I got this Cuisinart processor for $29.95 plus free shipping last week here on Amazon.com. I just have to say, it is wonderful! My husband and I love homemade fresh salsa and with this machine we have it in seconds. Just a few quick pulses and you're there. Chops garlic very well. Easy clean up (top rack of dishwasher) and it isn't too bulky to store on the counter. I see myself using this machine often !!

It was the fastest delivery that took 2 days only! Thanks Amazon!
It's my the third and the last food processor. I've used 11 cups, 7 cups ones and I find that this 3 cup Little Guy with the chute attachment is the best for my family of 3. Even when it's not the most powerfull food processor I've owned now it's the most versatile and handy thing in my kitchen. I use it a lot - avarage 2-5 times a day. Every day I start with blending my breakfast kefir+fruit+weetabix smoothie. It also makes the best fresh homemade mayonnaise (from 1 to 2,5 cups), the finest pate and the smoothiest vegetable paste for my green curry. The chute attachment is awesome! It sliced 10 pounds of cabbige and shreded a pound of carrots for my Russian sauerkraut in no time. It's REALLY EASY to clean. Just don't wait till foods dry out on it. I use it for all my pureing, blending, shredding, slicing and almost all chopping tasks.
What I don't use it for:
1) I don't use it for dough making since my Cusinart stand mixer does it's job the best.
2) I don't chop vegies with my Little Guy when I need it done neatly.
3) I don't use it for grinding seeds because I don't want to scratch the bowl or dull the blade. A coffee grinder works good for that kind of job.
I highly recommend particulaly this Cuisinart DFP-3 Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor with a chute attachment. It makes cooking so much easier and enjoyable! I wish everybody who is looking for his/her kitchen helper is as much satisfied as I am with my Little Guy. Good luck to y'all!

This review is from: Cuisinart DFP-3 Handy Prep 3-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
This is a handy food processor to have in the kitchen. It is easy to clean and easy to store. Does everything that the larger processors do and is half the size. I am extremely satisfied with this product and I highly recommend this for all cooks.
