Great carafe that works very well,
By
This review is from: Cuisinart DGB-600RC 10-Cup Stainless Thermal Carafe (Kitchen)
I have a grind and brew that is the black plastic model that is the version that comes with the 12 cup glass carafe. I dropped the glass carafe in the sink and it cracked, bummer. I went to get another glass carafe and saw that the stainless thermal carafe was on sale so I bought it without realizing it was not made to use with the Grind & Brew model I owned. It fit perfectly and I was curious why they said "for use with stainless steel grind & brew only" and realized it is because the stainless thermal carafe holds 10 cups, not 12 like my glass one. SO ANYWAY, what this means is that this thermal carafe works great with ALL Grind & Brew Machines, you just can't set the plastic Grind & Brew machines to make 12 cups of coffee since the steel thermal carafe will only hold 10 cups. NOT A BIGGIE and it's a wonderful bonus; I set my machine the night before and am awoken up by it going off in the morning and now I can have hot coffee without needing to fuss with putting the coffee in a separate carafe. Plus, it keeps it hot FOREVER; I have emptied the leftover coffee after work and it is still warm over 10 hours later. I love it and highly recommend for any Grind & Brew machine.

Nice carafe, but can trap water,

I have the cuisinart grind and brew with this carafe. I have noticed that my carafe gets water trapped inside of it. The carafe can be "empty" and dry, but I can still hear liquid shaking inside of it. I used to think it was trapped inside the metal, but it isn't. The water is inside the plastic top. This was starting to drive me nuts. I finally waged war against the thing, imagining all sorts of mold and crud growing within. Now here's the part I wanted to share. You can take it apart. It is not easy, but I can do it. And I am a 120 lb woman with no upper body strength. Here's how: 1. Get a philips screwdriver and unscrew the screw on the handle. 2. Slide the handle upward until it pops off. Don't twist, just straight up. It might be tight. Slide harder. 3. Get a good grip on the thing and position both of your thumbs under the spout. 4. Push up VERY hard under the spout and the whole plastic black top will pop off. (If you cannot get it off with your thumbs, try gently prying it off with a screwdriver.) Watch for a rubber gasket that might go flying. 5. Wash it. Mine was full of NASTY water. 6. Put the rubber gasket back into the plastic top with the dirty side facing out--facing the metal bottom. (A reviewer said that the only way it worked for them was to seat the gasket first onto the metal base, then replace the plastic top.) 7. Line up the top carefully (plan ahead to put the handle back on) and then push the top down hard into place. If you don't line it up, it is really hard/impossible to twist it later. 8. Snap the handle back into place and screw it. 9. Enjoy mold and crud-free coffee. Mmmmm.

Thermal Carafe replacement,
By Holly A. (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cuisinart DGB-600RC 10-Cup Stainless Thermal Carafe (Kitchen)
Even though this pot is not supposed to 'go' with my Cuisinart 12-cup (model #DCC-1200) Coffeemaker, I purchased it anyways. I cracked the original glass pot that came with the coffeemaker, and I didn't want another glass replacement. This carafe is 2 cups smaller than my 12-cup machine, so I have to remember that when I'm making coffee for crowds! However, I took the gamble and hoped that it would fit my machine...and it fits beautifully! My only complaint is that unless I pre-warm the carafe with hot water for a few minutes before brewing the coffee, the coffee only stays warm, not hot (even right after brewing). Hence, the 4 stars...

This model does fit model #DCC-1200. I've have had it for a month, and it works great. It does not, however, have water level measurements, which is what I used to use in my old (broken) glass carafe to measure how many cups I wanted to make. But, the fact that it isn't glass, and can't break, makes up for it; I just use a measuring cup instead.

I own the 10 cup Cuisinart Grind and Brew model # DCC 690, purchased at the membership warehouse that starts with C. I owned it for about 18 months before I accidently broke the glass carafe. I searched in vain locally to find a replacement, but all I could find was the 12 cup glass carafe which looked too tall for my model. I didn't want to go to the expense of buying another machine, so I checked online, found this carafe and read the reviews. Although I didn't see any that referenced my specific model coffee maker (all mentioned the 12 cup version), I took a chance and ordered this thermal carafe hoping it would fit. I received it yesterday afternoon and found out that it DOES fit. Today, I brewed my first pot and followed the suggestion to pre-warm with hot water. Everything worked as it should and the coffee came out great.

Great carafe. I broke my brand new glass 12 cup carafe that came with the DCC-1100 and got the glass one and this one to replace it. Now when I have company I can brew 2 pots. Works great as long as you remember to only brew 10 cups. I'm fussy about wanting real hot coffee. I preheat the carafe with hot water in the sink while I fill the water reservoir with a pitcher. Keeps coffee hot for hours. Pours kinda slow, but that's because of the valve system to retain heat. I highly recommend this carafe.

Great coffee, but carafe leaks,

This review is from: Cuisinart DGB-600RC 10-Cup Stainless Thermal Carafe (Kitchen)
I loved Cuisineart's thermal coffemaker so much that I bought two more carafes. After two uses, they each leaked -- the gasket between the plastic handle/collar and metal pot failed. CUISINART REFUSED TO STAND BEHIND THEM, REFUSED REPLACEMENT, REFUSED REFUND! Two months later, the carafe that originally came with the coffemaker failed the same way. I have some very expensive useless junk!

Don't put in the dishwasher!,

I really love the Cuisinart coffee maker, even though you need a "preflight checklist" to use it. You will only forget the basket lid once or the filter once!
I am not sure how long the carafe will keep coffee hot. I usually brew coffee in the morning or when guests come to dinner and use it right away or within a short period of time. I am too impatient and do not use the pour spout. It is far too dainty and slow for me, so I just take the lid off to pour the coffee. I really, really like the coffee maker, but the carafe has been a problem because the instructions do not include a warning saying that the carafe is not dishwasher safe. Now that I know this, I expect trouble free service from the new carafe. I put all of the parts in the dishwasher for years. One day I noticed a sloshing sound when I removed the carafe from the dishwasher. Thought maybe water was trapped in the handle. Took off the handle and scraped about a teaspoon of bacterial crud from under the handle, but no water. (I will be periodically cleaning the handle from now on. Yuck.) I turned the carafe over and shook it, and water drained along the inside of the carafe. So I think I have been drinking coffee flavored with old dishwater for quite a while. I checked in my closet because I have a newer carafe that I only use when guests come over. I can brew regular and decaf coffee after dinner and have a carafe for each. I had only washed it a couple of times, and there was water inside that one also. I called Cuisinart. The new one was still under warranty, but they would not honor the warranty in my case because I had bought it through Amazon. (I have the shipping membership and try to order everything on line through Amazon.) The Cuisinart rep said that had I bought it from Cuisinar, they would have been willing to replace the carafe because she acknowleged that there is nothing in the instructions saying don't put it in the dishwasher. The Amazon customer service department (thank you!) got this straightened out, and I have a replacement carafe that I do not place in the dishwasher and it is fine. I will be paying for another one myself to use as a spare, as the original appliance is about 3 years old and the carafe is getting scratched up anyway from normal wear and tear.

I needed a backup pot for my Cuisinart Coffeemaker and this does the job. It was exactly what I was looking for. Apparently it fits several different Cuisinart 10-cup thermal coffee makers but Cuisinart does not make this interchangeability very obvious.

Taking coffee to the next level,
By
This review is from: Cuisinart DGB-600RC 10-Cup Stainless Thermal Carafe (Kitchen)
I'd been using glass carafes for at least 22 years.
Four years ago, I received a Cuisinart Automatic Grind and Brew Thermal coffee maker for Christmas (talk about the gift that keeps on giving). Suffice to say, it came with the DCC - 600RC 10 Cup Stainless Thermal Carafe as standard equipment...There's no way I'm going back to glass carafes. I also have the Thermos Nissan 14-ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Travel Tumbler,Thermos Nissan 14-Ounce Stainless-Steel Insulated Travel Tumbler which is the perfect adjunct, and looks bitchin' sitting on the counter next to the Cuisinart. I bought this tumbler from Brookstone for $35 about 15 years ago. Check it out; Amazon has it for $22.08 Other stainless tumblers are cheesy and lame in comparison. My morning routine: I first fill my tumbler and thermal carafe with hot water and let them sit. While those are heating up (I let them sit for at least ten minutes) I prepare the Grind and Brew with water and coffee. Three hours later, your coffee is still nice. The carafe seals in all the heat and flavors without continually scalding the living bejeezus out of your coffee. One note of importance - Let's face it; as nice as stainless or brushed chrome are, they're high-maintenance. Coffee equipment gets all crudded-up with nasty deposits in a big hurry. Plus, your equipment gets spotted-up and looking sub par. You have to be vigilant about keeping your stuff clean and shiny. Nothing works better than Brew Rite cleaner [...]. Every now and again, I soak it my tumbler and carafe, and run it through the Grind & Brew. My stuff is quickly transformed. If you take the time and effort to keep everything clean and squared away, it's a pleasure to use and look at. Wipe your stainless down with a damp micro-fiber cloth...Brilliant! |
