The brushed stainless finish is attractive and easy to wipe clean. The handle-in-front work bowl design is accessible to me (right-handed) and him (left-handed) equally. The machine doesn't take up a huge amount of counter space, and sits securely without "walking" or shimmying even when processing heavy foods.
The work bowl has a HUGE opening that greatly reduces pre-prep knife time. However, you are not stuck using the big opening all the time. The pusher has a smaller round "sub-pusher" in it that provides a smaller opening for holding long vegetables upright or for adding liquids while in motion. The lid is secure but can be removed and replaced easily. Everything fits stably and securely on the motor base. Work bowl, lid, and pusher work together to make sure you are not exposed to sharp edges or flying food (so long as you don't stick your hand down the pusher opening). At 9 cups, the work bowl is the perfect size (7 cups is just barely too small for good processing, I've found).
The first thing I made with the processor was a turkey salad with leftovers from Christmas dinner. Big chunks of onion, celery, and green pepper chopped evenly in a few pulses using the S blade. Big chunks of cooked turkey chopped evenly and smoothly without pureeing. The included spatula got all the food out of the work bowl quickly without making a mess.Read more ›
I make herb/salt rubs for meat from fresh rosemary and thyme and oregano whizzed with salt and pepper. I make pesto and salad dressings. I grind nuts for baking cakes and cookies.
The motor is very strong and quiet, the footprint on my counter is relatively small. I usually use a long-handled kitchen brush with a little dish soap to clean it, which is fast and easy and leaves it available for the next job. If it's the end of the day, I put the bowl, lid, pushers and blades into the dishwasher.
The only thing it's not great for is chopping things that you want to have in uniform pieces, like for salsa. It tends to chop some stuff very fine by the time the largest pieces have been cut up. If I want an even dice, I still have to do it by hand.
I keep the protective plastic sheet that came on the slicing blade for storage so I don't have a careless mishap forgetting how much sharper the new blades are. All of the attachments and owner's manual fit in a Glad 13-cup square container, convenient, safe and cheaper than purchasing the Cuisinart blade storage container.
I must confess, I had been wanting to own a food processor for quite some time. I was unsure of the brand to buy, the size I would need, how often I would make use of it given the cost. I read many reviews and decided on the Cuisinart brand. The reviews stated the unit was dependable, quiet running and a very powerful motor. I was originally looking at the 7 cup size but ended up buying the 9 cup size because it was bigger AND the additional cutting blades and accessories are universal with the 7 cup unit. I am SO glad that I went with the bigger size. For a 9 cup size the bowl looks small, but it is in fact 9 cup.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS/PACKAGING - 5 STARS
The box arrived in record time! I was a little apprehensive unpacking the unit, especially with the caution notices of how sharp the blades are. Firstly, the unit was EXCELLENTLY packaged. Everything was packaged in such a way that there was no worry of cutting fingers on the razor sharp blades. The chopping blade was in a plastic tray which I now use to store it in (i did not buy the storage accessory yet). All parts are easily identified. The short video was extremely helpful for the beginner. I am sure i would have figured it out, but watching the video shorted the learning curve. I did not watch the recipe section of the video. Once I got to understand how it worked I wanted to be off on my own adventures.
EASE OF USE - 5 STARS
I wanted to make cole slaw so my first try was cabbage. WOW - I shredded an entire head of cabbage (small dense head) in 10 - 15 seconds. The unit hums when in operation and is NOT LOUD at all. In fact, my coffee maker brewing a pot of coffee is louder that the food processor.Read more ›
