I loved it, until I needed service,

As the owner of Cuisinart food processor for more than 20 years, when it came time to upgrade it was a no-brainer...another Cuisinart. I had received excellent customer service in the past when a part developed cracks. Now, under new ownership, it's a whole new story. I had my new model for less than a month when it developed numerous cracks in the pusher assembly. I called customer service (by the way, the number in the manual was not a working number) and I was told they would send me a new part only after I sent them the defective one, and there would be a delay of about two weeks, not counting shipping (plan on another two weeks). This was their unbendable rule. I told them this was not acceptable, that I did not want to be without the use of the equipment for a month, especially with the holidays coming up. Sorry, that's the rule, is what I was told. I took the equipment back to the store where I purchased it, and exchanged it for a KitchenAid food processor, which was less expensive, and works beautifully. I did my research this time, and they have a reputation for excellent customer service should I need it. The Cuisinarts are good, solid appliances, but if you ever need customer service, it's an uphill battle. If you decide to buy a Cuisinart, be sure to buy at a store that will stand behind the products they sell.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I got this (in white) as an early B-Day gift that I picked out. I got it on ebay for 30% off amazons price. My only processor experience prior to this is a little 2 cup black and decker model that I got for Christmas. which ws very limited with what to do with it.But I liked the Idea and thought about the possibilities of what A "real" one could do! I live in a little po dink town in the middle of nowhere and there are to say the least no department stores or any thing that sells good kithchen appliances. So when looking for a food processor I was entirely doing my research and comparisons online. After reading reviews and comparing products and prices I came down to choosing between 2 food processors. This one and the KitchenAid KFP670. At first it was a close call because of the extra stuff that comes with the KitchenAid. However I was absolutely sure that I had made the right decision when I actually saw the KitchenAid 670 in person about 45 miles away at a dept. store. What truly sold me on my Cuisinart in addition to it's power, additional blades ect. was the huge feed tube. The Kitchenaid's tube looked so small compared to mine and you may not think that it would be a big deal but even though I had only had mine for a few days the big tube made a big difference. For instance I can stick a whole potato in mine and make instant hashbrowns or fries. with the KitchenAid you would have to cut up the potato first and fries... please, it may have the disc but who wants dinky little bits. Also I made stir fry steak. I was utterly amazed at how it handled it so well. and becaue of the large feed tube I could put a bunch of meat in the at one time and it took all of 2 seconds to slice the steak into 4 mm slices .. Wow!!! I even used the dough blade to make the cheese bread in the cookbook which was so fast to make and yumm GOOD! I like the safety features on this machine, the sturdiness,The extra blades that are available, the power, the style, and love the big feed tube. I am I first generation food processor owner and Will never go back!! I highly reccomend this food processor

It's not the Cuisinart you used to know!,

Times have changed and so has the parent company that sells and services your food processor. The quality of materials and workmanship have gone downhill too!
My experience with the corporate machine was horrible. Days of long waits to talk to a customer service rep...never paid off. Each time I called I was eventually forwarded to a recorded message that explained that they were too busy and that I needed to leave my name and phone number. I never did get a call-back. Finally, after several attempts, I was able to get past the initial phone queue and actually talked to a live person who took the information about the condition of all the clear plastic parts on the processor. They were all severely cracked and were not far from flying apart. It seems they knew of the problem and offered to replace the parts on warranty. All I had to do was give them a credit card number to charge the shipping to. AND, nothing would happen UNTIL I sent the old pieces back...again at MY expense. I sent the parts back promptly, but they didn't ship for another two weeks. And, here is the highlight of the episode... The lid they sent was the wrong one. Another round of phone calls yielded a person that said that Cuisinart had not processed the replacement yet...a full two weeks after they were notified. I still have not received the lid and the processor is useless without it. BEWARE! This company tries to sell their products in the top-end of the price range, but their corporate customer service system is as bad as it gets...at any price. You can do yourself a favor and shop for another brand. I'm looking at KitchenAid. Shucks, it can't be any worse...and MAY be a much better experience over the long run.

This product was great in the beginning. However, over 2 years it has fallen apart. The plastic parts have come apart. I am forced to reassemble each time and hold it "just so' for it to work. Replacing the plastic lid...well over $100. Also, the button covers have eroded. I'm trying Kitchen Aid next time. P.S. All pieces were hand washed; never in a dishwasher.

The unit leaks from the top and bottom,

I recently bought this unit to replace a trusty Cuisinart food processor that I used and loved for 30 years. Sadly, I discarded the old unit (the Lexan bowl had cracked) before fully testing the new unit. The first item I prepared was a small brioche dough. The unit leaked badly under the blade, and that part of the bowl was extremely difficult to clean. The next item I tried to prepare was a cold soup. I filled it to just under the marked fill line and water gushed out of the top when the liquid started to spin. I have just spoken with Cuisinart customer service. Both of these problems are normal with the unit. The maximum liquid that one can process is two cups! My small brioche dough was also too large. and it is normal for some dough to leak out under the blade. Needless to say, my old Cuisinart processor did not have either of these problems. This unit is fine for grating or slicing vegetables, or cheese, but not much else. Such a disappointment!

Annoying safety feature, expensive replacement parts,

This review is from: Cuisinart DLC-2011BCN Prep 11 Plus 11-Cup Food Processor, Brushed Chrome (Kitchen)
For the most part, I like this machine. It was the one I wanted and it does what I need it to do and I like that (I've never made dough in it, so cannot comment on that feature, which seems to be where people have issues with it).
That said, there is one thing I ABSOLUTELY HATE about it - one of the safety features! The "pusher" cup (seen in the picture inside the feed tube) HAS to be inserted the correct way before the thing will run! That gets a BIG thumbs down from me! I'm sorry, but I don't always want it in there to run the stupid thing - I'm not always pushing something in. For this reason alone I might be tempted to buy a different model (I didn't fully research them before I asked for this one--I just knew I wanted an 11 cup Cuisinart). So, the only reason this gets four stars from me is due to the safety feature I dislike...otherwise, it works just fine! UPDATE 8/9/07 - I have dropped my rating from four stars to three stars. About six months ago, I used the machine and when I went to wash it, I noticed a small metal rod in the sink, and then I noticed that the handle of the bowl assembly was falling apart. My stepdad was able to piece it all back together, and temporarily held it with scotch tape. Since it was still working, I didn't want to spend the $94 on the work bowl replacement kit. I used it again after that with no problems. Fast forward to last night, when I went to pull it out to make pesto. I twisted the bowl off the base to rinse it out and something popped out of place on the handle and I could not get the bowl back on the base - there was some metal piece sticking out that would not budge, no matter what I tried. Well, since I was in the middle of making pesto, I ran to the store and bought the cheaper 7-cup model for $99 - just a few dollars more than what it would cost to replace just the work bowl assembly on the other machine. I haven't decided yet what I am going to do with the 11-cup Cuisinart, but I have to say I am EXTREMELY disappointed in it. I thought Cuisinart was a great model, something to last for 20 years. And I didn't even last four years of less than light use (maybe one use every four months).

Indispensible kitchen appliance,

I have used cuisinart food processors for 30 years. The service and reliablilty was far better with the original 7 cup capcacity cuisinart. Mine worked great for over 15 years. When I sent it back for repair, they replaced it with a new one. I now own 3, this 11 cup model, the 14 cup, and a mini prep. I rarely if ever use my mixmaster. I use it for everything from coleslaw to cheesecake(in the 14 cup model) With the exception of whipped cream merange(sp?), and souffles, this machine can do anything. It makes quick work of everything from slicing several onions for onion soup to chopping meat for fillings. I use the french fry disk for jullienes(sp?), because the julliene disk cuts the veggies too thin. I make pie crusts and pastry dough very succesfully with the knife. Pureed vegetable soups are smooth and delicious. I prepare recipes that would be impossible without this processor. I wouldn't be without it. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service from the new owner of the company doesn't compare to the service from the original company.

I bought this cuisenart food processor two years ago since I have liked cuisenart products in the past. Though it looks nice I don't particularly like how you have to click the bowl and the stopper into place - they have gotten stuck and it takes more fumbeling than necessary. The bowl had a small crack within weeks ( just from normal usage) but it still worked. I make a lot of breads and was excited about the dough feature but the motor clearly struggles - the machine moves around and gets very hot. After a kitchen contractor managed to start a kitchen fire (don't ask) which melted down the bowl, lid and stopper I looked to replace them. Not only was customer service less than helpful, they were unreasonable expensive and not even in stock. Imagine not getting replacements on a two year old widely used appliance and no help from customer service. ?!? I ended up buying a kitchenaid foodprocessor which was not only slightly cheaper but has a stronger motor and a better rating in consumer reports plus great customer service. It makes dough without any effort and the setup is simpler and seems sturdier. I wouldn't switch back even if I got a free cuisenart.

Great for 90% of food processing 'chores',

I can't believe we waited so long. Our Hamilton Beach mixer became a white elephant after 5 or 6 uses, but the Cuisinart keeps on shredding, chopping, and grating! One suggestion: Don't get this for kneading dough, it's not worth the effort. |
