"Do I Need This?",
This review is from: Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
Perhaps you are thinking, "Do I really need a food processor?" The answer is, "Yes!"Twenty years ago I bought the same model as this one and it has seen daily use and is still running strong! I thought I wouldn't really use it that much, but once you start using it you find that it makes food preparation so much quicker that soon you can't do without it! Not only is it great for slicing and chopping, but it is also great for preparing bread dough (no more hand kneading!), pureeing, and making peanut butter. The only time I use a blender instead of the food processor is when I'm pureeing a large amount of liquid (like a hot soup), because it will leak out of the food processor. Because of the food processor, I find that I make lots of recipes that I formerly wouldn't have because they used to take too much time. Caution: The blades are razor SHARP! The first week I had my processor, I pulled bread dough off the blade without being very careful, and sliced off the top of my thumb! After 20 years, the blades are still very sharp. The work bowl is a bit scratched and dull, but after 20 years it's a miracle that it's still in one piece! For my small family, the 7-cup capacity is just right. If I had a larger family, I might invest in one of the larger processors.

Cuisinart disappointment,

This review is from: Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I grew up in a Cuisinart kitchen - so when it was time to stock my own kitchen with necessary appliances - I knew Cuisinart was the way to go. Boy, did I make a mistake on this one, I guess you get what you pay for. While it does well slicing, using it to make sauces or doughs leaves a lot to be desired. There is absolutely no seal between the bowl and the lid - if you put any liquid or flour in the bowl and turn it on, it comes flying out the sides and top. Not only does this make a mess, but it screws up the proportions in your recipes. If you are going to invest in a food processor, I would choose either the very well rated Kitchen Aid or one of the more expensive Cuisinarts (perhaps the classics or the power preps). ...

Nice machines, but not very sturdy plastic,
This review is from: Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I used this machine for years. It works like a charm, I use it nearly daily, and do not bother to take from the counter. Be prepared that while electrical and metal parts are sturdy, the bowl and the cover break and need to be replaced every 2-3 years. Amazon does not offer them, so you need to buy from the manufacturer or third parties, $29.30 plus shipping. I am now on my third bowl (just ordered), and second cover. If you cook a lot, my advice is to buy the second bowl right away - two bowls make it much easier.

Do not overfill, follow the directions, and use the "pusher" to cover the fill tube, and let the processor finish the job in moments. I also use the processor to chop or grate or slice vegetables. The cutting blade comes very close to the bottom of the bowl, so small quantities of mayonaisse can be made. Well designed product.

This is by far one of my favorite appliances. We all know the quality Cuisinart is known for. This appliance is very heavy, and can do some work for you! I use mine for the normal, slicing, shredding, and chopping. This comes with a great video that shows you all about your appliance. After watching this, I realized I can use this for baking bread, you just pour everything in and mix, no kneading! I use this to make cookies, or when ever else, I need something mixed in a jiffy. This is simple to clean. One of qualities that I enjoy the most is the no nonsense design of this. Its easy to put together! All of the parts go into the dishwasher too. You can ask for much more than what this appliance will offer to you.

I bought this food processor almost on a whim. I knew I wanted one, and I felt sure I could find some use for it, but I wasn't sure exactly why I wanted it or what I'd use it for. Since I purchased it a year ago, I have found myself using it far more often than I thought I would, and for tasks I always thought I could do just fine by hand. I don't eat meat much, so I cook with vegetables frequently -- this food processor makes short work of chopping almost anything, either with the S-blade or with the included grating and slicing discs. I use it at least once a week, and I definitely feel it's worth the money I spent. One bit of advice: When they say not to use other spatulas or utensils to scrape the work bowl, they mean it, at least when the S-blade is in place. I unthinkingly used one of my other spatulas to scrape the bowl one night and the blade cut it to ribbons.

No doubt, you might be intrigued by the relative savings offered on this model compared to other processors - including the more modern-looking Cuisinarts. Well, there is, as they say, a reason for everything.
I have used both a small older Mini-Prep as well as the DLC-2007 (the futuristic one). Both were awesome - they blended thoroughly and RARELY leaked (only when it was my fault and I filled the suckers full of liquid. Anyhow, they passed the "how much do I get for my money" test with flying colors. This machine does not. Each time I have used this thing - be it for cooked vegetables, salsa or pesto, the freaker leaked from the well. Unlike the other two Cuisinarts I mentioned - which were the older sister and the same-age sister, respectively, to this model - this one has a blade that fits LOOSELY on its inner assembly. Thus, whatever you are blending works its way up right out of the cylinder and into the well, from which it drips everywhere. The counter, the machine, the bowl. I mean it - do not buy this model. It really sucks. You may save money, but you won't save time or headaches.

I am using it for around 2 months and I am happy with its performance. I uses it for Indian food like dough, chilli/onion,garlic paste, crushing the spinach, curliflower, coconut, carrots , salad etc
Pros: It plastic is sturdy. It is easy to clean. Its sound level is normal. Cons The slicer comes with it is little thin. They sells 1/4 inch slicer seperately (in $20) It is heavy, It sticks with counter so well you need to apply lot of power to move it. It is not worth to take one star out for these. Make sure you will add water gradually until dough stops sticking the walls and then let it run for 30 seconds. It will stick all to the walls if more water is added at this stage. Also don't try to add more flour to compansate more water, it will make a big mess.

Great Machine,

I love this food processor! It's fast and very quiet. Slicing and grating has never been so easy and fun! However, I ordered two of the accessory discs listed in the page and was very disappointed when they arrived because they are not compatible to this processor. The stems on the discs for this machine are not removable and the other blades require a removable stem. So beware if you want to order additional discs.

DLC-5 Disappointment,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
A Krups owner for over 20 years, I recently bought the Cuisinart DLC-5 at the bargain price (...) Although described on the exterior of the box as having a 7-cup capacity , the instructions inside caution the user to use no more than 2-3 cups of liquid for any single processing operation. I used one cup of liquid. At high speed (the only one other than pulse on this model) most of the liquid spewed out of the bowl and onto the walls and countertop. I repeated the operation in case I hadn't engaged all the necessary parts. Same result. Clearly there is something wrong when the listed and recommended capacities are at variance with each other. The fact that a 7-cup bowl can't handle a single cup of liquid merely adds to the suspicion that Cuisinart is aware of a design flaw and is now offloading DLC-5 stock at an apparent bargain price. It's no bargain. I've gone back to Krups.
