Freezing Time and Bowl Preparation

The freezer bowl must be completely frozen before you begin your recipe. Before freezing, wash and dry the bowl. The length of time needed to reach the frozen state depends on how cold your freezer is. It is recommended that you place the freezer bowl in the back of your freezer where it is the coldest. Be sure to place the freezer bowl on a flat surface in its upright position for even freezing.

Generally, freezing time is between 16 hours and 24 hours. Shake the bowl to determine whether it is completely frozen. If you do not hear the liquid within the bowl moving, the cooling liquid is therefore frozen. For the most convenient frozen desserts and drinks, leave your freezer bowl in the freezer at all times. Use the bowl immediately after removing from the freezer. It will begin to quickly defrost once it has been removed for the freezer.

Reminder: Your freezer should be set to 0°F to ensure proper freezing of all foods.

Making Frozen Desserts or Drinks

  1. Use Cuisinart recipes included in the Instruction Booklet or use your own recipe, making sure it yields 1-1/2 quarts or less.
  2. Remove the freezer bowl from the freezer and place on the center of the base. The bowl will begin to defrost quickly once it has been removed from the freezer. Use it immediately after removing from freezer.
  3. Place mixing paddle in freezer bowl. It rests in the center of the bowl, with the circle side facing up.
  4. Place lid on the base and rotate clockwise until tabs on lid lock in place on base.
  5. Press On/Off switch to ON position. Freezer bowl will begin to turn.
  6. Immediately pour ingredients through ingredient spout. NOTE: Ingredients must be added to the freezer bowl after the unit is turned on.
  7. Frozen desserts or drinks will be done in less than 20 minutes. The time will depend on the recipe and volume of the dessert you are making. When the mixture has thickened to your liking, it is done. If you desire a firmer consistency, transfer the dessert to an airtight container and store in the freezer for two or more hours.
Adding Ingredients

Ingredients such as chips and nuts should be added about 5 minutes before the recipe is complete. Once the dessert has began to thicken, add the ingredients through the ingredient spout. Nuts and other ingredients should be no larger than a chocolate chip.

This is my first Ice Cream Maker, I have made several batches of ice cream and have not had a problem with the maker or the ice cream. To be totally honest, the ice cream is just as good as, or better than, the ice cream I get at Baskin Robbins up the road. I have also make sorbet, which is also great.

Now, that being said, here are some tips for first-time ice cream makers out there who have no idea what is involved but are interested in buying this:

* Tip #1 - There is a bunch of prep to be done before you make your ice cream!
==============================================================================

I suppose I was naive, but I thought you just froze the bowl, chunked in some milk and sugar and stuff and then let this thing run for 20 minutes, and pow! Ice Cream. That is NOT the case. Not only will you have to buy the correct ingredients to make your ice cream, many of the recipes call for various amounts of prep. For example, my girlfriend likes Cheesecake ice cream. I had to go and buy three kinds of cheese, strawberries (optional), and for another kind of ice cream I picked up pecans, heavy cream, whole milk, and unsalted butter.

When I got home, I had to mix the three cheeses, sugar, whole milk, etc into a bowl and let it chill for at least two hours, but overnight is recommended.

To me, this was not a big deal at all, but was an eye-opener because I thought I could just throw everything in the bowl and ice cream would magically appear. To make Butter Pecan, I also had to roast the pecans in butter for several minutes and then let them chill in the fridge.

* Tip #2 - The Ice Cream will not look like Ice Cream right away!

Girlfriend and I got this as an anniversary gift to ourselves and it has already provided us with various delicious ice creams and sorbets. The recipes it comes with are very easy, and we've even tried winging it a couple of times with really great results.

DO NOT expect to make ice cream right out of the box. They're not kidding when they say you need to freeze the bowl for 10+ hours before you make a batch. We naively thought it would be ready to make us some delicious ice cream after only a few hours, but we learned our lesson.

Very easy to clean. Fantastic electric blue color.

Not having to deal with ice cream salt or any other inconvenient ingredients is really nice. You can make sorbet with nothing more than water, sugar, and some blended-up fruit!

I've already recommended it to a bunch of friends. Happy to recommend it to everyone here too.

This is a very simple Ice Cream maker and that's what makes it good.
I like many things about this ice cream maker:
* makes decent quantities
* freezer bowl eliminates need for messy ice and salt.
* very simple assembly
* very simple operation. Just a single button.
* very easy to clean
* freezer bowl is compact enough not too take too much freezer space. But if you have freezer space issues you better take this into consideration. the freezer bowl, like its name suggests, need to be chilled in your freezer to be ready to make ice cream.
* reasonable price
* replacement parts are available from Cusinart

My main complaints about this ICM (=Ice Cream Maker :) ) are:
* a bit on the noisy side...
* had some trouble completely freezing large quantities (i.e. when the freezer bowl is almost full).

Some useful tips:
* ALWAYS mix all ingredients in a separate bowl, and ONLY THEN pour to the freezer bowl and start churning. Otherwise, stuff will stick to the freezer bowl and it will not turn
* try to fill the freezer bowl up to 1/2 capacity each time. You can make 2 rounds before the freezer bowl loses it's freezing capabilities - it takes around 10-15 minutes for most ice creams i tried.

overall - very recommended! It's easy to make delicious ice creams and the good thing is you know exactly what you put into it.

We found this convenient and easy to use. Started with the first recipe in the book. I thought the ice cream would freeze a little firmer, after more than 20 minutes? Even after several hours in the deep freeze it was soft in the middle. It was good though and soooo much easier than the old ice-and-salt routine.

I bought this ice cream maker for my husband for his birthday and we both LOVE it! It's very easy to use and clean. The ice cream does need to be "cured" in the freezer for a good 30-40 minutes after churning in order to make scoops for ice cream cones. I really like that I can control the amount of fat and sugar that goes into our desserts now. The booklet that comes with it has some great tasting recipes, too.

I used this several times this summer and find that it works fine. Maybe I'm not picky enough compared to other reviewers.

Bought this for mother in law birthday. She has brought this with her everywhere and made ice cream for everyone she knows. I get emails & texts from everyone saying how amazing the ice cream is. My 3 yr old nephew has helped several times and he tells me it's very easy to make. I would recommend to anyone, it's great family time!
