I received this item as a Christmas gift and I really like it. I've never owned a kitchen scale so have nothing to compare it to, but this item does what it says it does. I'm a little surprised people complain about the buttons. They are buttons that are flush with the unit so you don't get gunk in between or behind them. I think that's a great idea so even if I felt I had to push harder to make them work (which I don't feel I do), that would be fine by me. The first time I used the unit was this evening when I was repackaging meat I purchased in bulk. It was great to sort out individual pounds to be stored in the freezer. (The removable stainless plate that comes with this is great for this.) But what I didn't like was that if I left the scale for too long, it would automatically shut off. Now this is good and bad. Bad because if you are using it for awhile and you keep having to turn it on that's extra work. But it's good because it saves on the batteries (so I'd rather it shut off automatically and save the batteries). As another reviewer mentioned, the default weight is in grams. I personally will probably always want the pounds/ounces option so to have to change this every time is a little annoying, but again, not a huge deal. I really like how small and sleek the scale is. It's definitely something I will keep out on my counter. I would definitely purchase this and would recommend it. Thanks!

I'm sorry "Betsy" didn't like this scale. I got one and love it. It is not very large but weighs in both grams and Olde English pounds, ounces, etc., which are such a bother to deal with.

This scale sets to zero with either the push of the tare button or by putting the bowl, etc., on the scale and then turning it on. In order not to get liquids or flours, etc., spill on exposed buttons (and ruining it), it has a single membrane cover over the dials. It may be a little harder to press down on but you can instantly wipe it clean. It also has a stainless steel sheet to put over the scale and catch all spills. It gets included in the zero tare weight, so it doesn't affect your measurements. You can take it off and wash it by itself.

I heartily recommend this excellent scale. It is a good buy for your money.

I bought this scale because I have to make very special food for my beloved cat. I had been using another scale for some time and the process of making this life saving food recipe was literally taking me all day for a one month supply. It is now taking me only 2 hours! Thanks!

The Good: I like how super easy it is to clean thanks to the membrane-style buttons as well as the stainless steel cover for the plate. I like the sleek styling of it. I like how small it is, which is imperative in a house as small as ours. I like that the imperial measurement mode (lbs) is diplayed in pounds and ounces and not decimal pounds (i.e. it will display 2 lbs 8 oz as opposed to 2.5 lbs). It even diplays fractions of ounces! And I liked how accurate it was when it was working (more on that later). It would return right to zero after removing my ingredient every time.

The Bad: As mentioned in previous reviews, the buttons have to be pushed slightly harder but it is a fair trade-off for the ease of cleaning. I do wish the default units could be selected, but it seems that you must change it to lbs/oz manually every time you turn it on. It would also be nice if the auto-off timer was considerably longer. I would be happy to change the batteries more frequently to compensate for a longer idle time.

The Ugly: After a couple of weeks of owning it, the displayed weight began to fluctuate up and down by several ounces or tens of grams. This made it impossible to weigh anything with any amount of accuracy (especially small amounts). When I placed an ingredient on the scale, the numbers would go up but it continued to bounce around every second or so. I called Cuisinart since I had already thrown away the packaging and got a repair authorization. It is currently in their possession and it cost me an additional $18 to ship it and pay for return shipping. So when I get it back (or maybe a replacement), I hope it works as good as new for many years to come.

The Bottom line: Without the failure, I would give this scale 4 stars. It seems that my scale was the exception to the rule so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if you can live with the minor inconveniences mentioned above.

Update: Since writng this review, Cuisinart has sent me a brand new replacement unit which I have now been using for several months with no problems. I have increased the rating from two stars to four.

Easy to use, accurate, weighs in both pounds, ounces, and grams(which is great if you sometime use European recipes),uses common 2 AAA batteries (not some hard to find battery), auto turn off, large weighing platform and it looks very sleek and stylish. All surfaces are flat and smooth, so it's very easy to wipe clean with no little crevices for food to get stuck in. I highly recommend this scale !

The scale is exactly what I needed to measure my food intake for dieting reasons. Also, it is extremely easy to read and to clean, of course, which is very important sanitation. The price was fair and the scale was delivered in A-1 condition. Many thanks.

Great purchase. The product came on time and has been using it every day for my baking. I wanted to buy the OXO kitchen scale but aside from being a good product, it also looks good on the kitchen counter and I can easily find a space to put it away because of it's size. Thanks also for the merchant for sending it on time and in good condition.

I have had this scale for about six months, and it is not that accurate. Even if you zero it out, by the time you add whatever you are adding to the scale, it is no longer zeroed out.

I have this scale for about a year now and it's great.If you put a paper plate on it before you power it up it will read 0 grams or if you want ounces.I use it everyday to weigh out my meat for my diet.Highly accurate.....
