I tried two other small food processors, the KitchenAid Chef's Chopper and the Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus for making two to four servings of pesto, cilantro sauce etc, but pureeing these small amounts of ingredients in the approximately 3 cup work bowls was difficult because the blade throws the ingredients on the sides. My first Mini Mate died within 60 days because a metal piece fell of it. The replacement I received (pay attention, you pay shipping for sending it and a 10$ check) broke after being used twice.

Scraping the ingredients down several times helps but the finished product was still not smooth enough.

The MM-2M works much better for making these small amounts of sauces. You still have to scrape the ingredients down once or twice but the puree is much smoother. The blades turn much faster than the other two processors and there are also two speeds. You can reverse the blade holder to choose a blunt or sharp leading edge. The blunt edge works well for pureeing.

The unfortunate drawback to this processor is that the motor housing forms the top of the work bowl. As a result, quite a bit of the finished product ends up coating the end of the motor housing. If you are not extremely careful when cleaning the motor housing you will get water and perhaps food into it. If you're just chopping relatively dry ingredients like coffee or dry spices, this would not be so much of a problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for small spice/herb grinder/mincer, October 29, 2001

Cooking Thai, Viet, Chinese, Indian dishes requires quick chopping/mincing/grinding/puree of *multiple* spices. I searched all over for something of small size for per-meal quantities. This is it! Just a few pulses, and you have minced garlic, galanga, lemongrass, coriander, ginger, chili peppers, whatever. Works good too on small quantities of nuts, and even coffee beans, in a pinch. Another review says several pieces to wash; I don't get that, you just have the included bowl and blade thingee to rinse. The motor top doesn't get messy because it's on top; you just sponge it off when done. Love mine; inexpensive and to purpose. Perfect for that mini-spice/herb/food-processor you've been looking for. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick, easy and efficient, December 4, 2002

This little chopper is a gem. It requires no counter space and minimal storage space. For chopping small quantities--onions, celery, nuts, etc. it is the quickest to use and easiest to clean. For a cup of bread crumbs or less it permits you to complet the job in minutes. As a compliment to a full food processor, this little machine is the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great chopper!, May 2, 2000
This review is from: Cuisinart MM-2M Mini Mate Chopper / Grinder (Kitchen)
I love this chopper. I use it to chop all kinds of spices and nuts. Just one advice: Don't use it to grind star anise. My chopper is now permanently colored brown and a part broke. However, it still works!

My mini-mate died after being used a few times, and producing inconsistent results. I shipped it to Cuisinart, paid for return shipping, and the thing did not run even once! I threw it away - Cuisinart should be ashamed of putting out such a shoddy product under its brand name, and of the shoddier repair service (I am not alone as you can see below).

I received this item as a gift. I used it ONCE to further grind ground spices into a powder. The motor DIED. I had already tossed the box so I couldn't return it.

Two blade system works much better than previously owned one blade item. A little larger capacity for chopping raw veggies would have been preferred, but perfect for mincing cooked meat and veg/fruit for anyone without good chewing capabilities. Very pleased by performance and price.

This kitchen appliance is not new by any means. I have owned one
for at least 8 years. It does what its designed to do. Excellant
for grinding whole coffee beans, nuts, seeds. No break downs which means repair cost. Excellant product in my kitchen.

1.0 out of 5 stars Died after 2 uses, September 6, 2005

I loved the functionality of this little processor and the fact that it takes up so little counter space. It did a great job making pesto for 2, and the texture was perfect. I was SO disappointed when the motor died after 2 uses. After reading the other reviews here, I won't waste additional money returning it to Cuisinart. I agree with the reviewer who wrote they should be ashamed of putting their name on such a poor quality product.
