This is the worst joke I have ever had inflicted upon me. We wanted a sturdy, durable can opener that would last more than a year, and this appeared to be the solution. Backed by the Cuisinart brand I was comfident we would be in good shape. It wasn't in stock for 3 or 4 months, but we waited patiently convinced it was the answer to our prayers.

It lasted about a month before it broke. It would not latch onto the cans any longer. It was heavy, solid, made by what I thought was a quality brand name, and it would not work. What a disappointment. But I was confident Cuisinart would set things right, so I e-mailed them.

Wow, what an eye opener about this company! I was told I had to MAIL this heavy object back to them ON MY DIME. Brand new, less than 2 months old, broken and not working, and I am supposed to lay out the heft shipping fee over and above the expensive price tag, which would only be worth the money if the product actually worked.

End of the story, we bought another can opener and it is working fine so far. Eventually it will break as well, nothing is made with any substance any more. We really thought the Cuisinart would last, and if there were any problems at such an early stage they would ship out a replacement, brand new, and prepay the postage for the return like truly reputable companies I have dealt with in the past.

This unit is defective, and their customer service stinks. Save your money, it does not live up to the image, and if you buy it you will get stuck with the postage bill trying to return it. We refused to throw good money after bad, so we are eating the cost. But we now know better than to buy another Cuisinart product in our lifetimes, so that is worth something to us at least.

This is my edited last review of this can opener. I reviewed it earlier and mentioned I would follow-up if necessary. I fear the product has a major problem. Again I used it about 4 times and it was simply outstanding. My wife used this second one today and managed to break it again her first try! The same plastic insert that busted before broke again. They obviously have a problem with this insert as I cannot imagine it breaking the second time around. Granted, my wife may not have the skill level I have when using a can opener, however, I now have no choice but to give up this little venture and buy the "West Bend" can opener which has such great reviews here on "Amazon.com". The up-side is that I will save $25.

Like the "Cuisinart SCO-60 Deluxe Stainless Steel Can Opener SCO-60" also reviewed on this site our Cuisinart "Deluxe" stainless steel can opener broke within a couple weeks of buying it. The device appears solid, but the actual blade attachment is connected to the rest of the body with a seemingly very fragile plastic piece that will shatter after little use.

I am truly disappointed in this product. Save your money it is definitely not worth it. My previous can opener (KRUPS) I've had for over 7 years, the blade had become dull and it was looking dingy so I opted to buy a new one. I was so excited when I got this nice looking stainless steel can opener at the very beginning of Dec. 2006. The can opener broke within 4 weeks, the attachment with the blade came completely off. I thought I was buying a quality product and was horribly dismayed to find out otherwise. I now am expected to return the product at my expense. I'm sending it back, but I will think twice before I ever buy another Cuisinart product. Save your money!! Don't buy this product!

I am very disappointed with this product. As listed in the prior comments, it is indeed very beautiful and I love the look of it in my kitchen. However, it is nearly impossible to get it to open a can. It takes many tries before it will pierce the top and most of the time, I just give up and use a hand held opener. I expected more from an expensive Cuisinart appliance.

Went through two of these so called "openers" in two weeks.

Second opener came with an internal plastic part already in three pieces.

Spend your time and money purchasing another.

This has to be the all time worst can opener. I had mine for two weeks and it broke the second time I used it! I tried to get a refund or a replacement but it did not happen.

I bought this can opener last week. I can't believe that, for $50, Cuisinart couldn't design a can opener that opens a can with a smooth edge. This thing is an accident waiting to happen. I wouldn't want my child (age 11) to use this can opener. The lid comes off looking like sharks teeth. Going to return it today and get something that cuts safely.

This is the best looking can opener I've ever seen. Too bad it doesn't work well, and it broke before it should have. Beauty isn't everything.

I received it as a gift in Dec 2006, and it broke eight months later, using it maybe twice a week. It didn't work well from the beginning: I always had to try 3-4 times before it would latch onto the lid. Eventually, a plastic part broke right where the handle meets the body of the can opener, rendering this item useless.

I've used a variety of can openers, naturally, but I've never seen one that would cut the lids so badly--the edges would be rippled and super sharp. For the money, it should work better and certainly last longer.
