4.0 out of 5 stars perfect if wearing ear plugs!!!
This mixer works great I have chopped and shredded all kinds of things with it. The only draw back for me and the reason for only 4 stars is the noise level. If you use this on high speed #12 like the instructions suggest it is horribly loud. I turn it down unless I am chopping something hard like carrots, or shredding parmesan. Overall I am happy I bought this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Used Once, Bought a Dedicated Food Processor, March 13, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart SM-FP Food-Processor Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I absolutely love my Cuisinart Stand Mixer and have been slowly purchasing the attachments as needed. This one was a mistake; not for lack of productivity though. As a food processor it works fantastically. The attachment is FAR too LOUD. As written previously by another reviewer, I don't know who could stomach the unit running on Speed 12! I can barely go past 4 or 5. I have only used this attachment once because of the noise - it is the most ear shattering racket you will ever hear.

I decided to purchase a dedicated food processor appliance and use my mixer solely for mixing, pasta making and blending (I received the blender attachment free, but have yet to use it - hopefully it's quieter, but it uses the same power port as the food processor).

This attachment will do the job, but I recommend investing your money into a separate unit to spare your hearing, and not to scare your pets and children.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed review for food processor attachment, August 5, 2010

This review is from: Cuisinart SM-FP Food-Processor Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I received this attachment as a holiday bonus with my new stand mixer. If I had paid for it, I'm not sure that I would have kept it. The stand mixer is a 5 star product - I love it! The processor attachment has some "issues". It only functions well at the highest speed setting which is not made clear enough in the instructions. Once I figured that out, I had much better luck. It is very convenient for small jobs and does a reasonable job of grinding, but it will definitely not replace a full-size processor, the bowl is small. I didn't have much luck slicing some vegetables which is smashed rather than sliced, but I tried that in the very beginning before I realized that it needed to be set at the highest speed. Will have to try that again.

It's biggest problem is noise. It is loud - I mean loud - I mean hold your hands over your ears to prevent deafness loud. I literally hold my hands over my ears while it's running and turn it on and off with my elbow. This thing could damage your hearing. I called Cuisinart to inquire about it and the person I spoke sheepishly admitted that they had had a lot of "comments" about how loud it was. Cuisinart needs to do some work on this one.

If you're considering buying this attachment, you might be better served by a highly rated small countertop processor.

1.0 out of 5 stars so noisy i used it once!, January 19, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart SM-FP Food-Processor Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
This was free for purchasing the mixer (which I absolutely love). Had I paid for this, I'd have returned it immediately. The noise is unreal! I had to put my dogs, who went crazy, outside, and cover my ears to puree a batch of carrots. It's too much work and drama to go thru. I am back to using my 20plus year old Cuisinart. This was used once and will collect dust in my garage forever.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying!, July 30, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart SM-FP Food-Processor Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
As the other reviewers have indicated, this is one noisy little contraption. How the stand mixer it attaches to can be so much quieter at the same speed, I don't know. Maybe it's that tiny blade of whirling death. This processor works okay, but in addition to the noise factor it's too small to be practical for everyday use, especially considering the steps you have to take to assemble it onto the mixer and all the little parts that have to fit together precisely. The three cup capacity just can't handle most kitchen chopping tasks. For that little food, I'll use a knife, thank you very much, which will be far easier to clean and possibly safer to handle! Quite frankly, the high position, noise and quick action of the blades on this processor actually make it kind of scary to use!

I got my mini-processor accessory through a rebate program for my Cuisinart stand mixer purchased through Amazon. It's worth every penny ($0) I paid for it, too! The next time I go to chop a small amount of nuts, veggies or whatever, if I don't just use a knife I'll use the chopper grinder attachment that came with my Cuisinart Smart Stick hand blender (which is much cheaper than the usual price of this processor.) The capacity isn't much smaller, it's a far quieter and MUCH easier to assemble & clean unit and it isn't at all scary to use. For larger everyday tasks, I'd recommend buying a standard size food processor. While having lots of attachments for the Cuisinart stand mixer sounds like a good idea, as evidenced by this mini processor, it doesn't necessarily work out that well in real life.

Similar to other reviewers, I too received this free with my stand mixer which is the only reason i have kept it/use it. It is so freakishly loud that i thought i had a defective piece. Called Cuisinart and had the representative listen to the shriek of the machine over the phone. They told me to send back just the motor, bowl, blade and lid and they'd repair it. I did so. They forgot about me. A month later i called to check on it and they said they couldn't repair it and would just send me a new one in the next few days. got my new one... still shrieky. I called again and they sent me YET another which is also still loud and shrieky. I have given up and just cover my ears every time i use it. It works great, and is SO convenient for grating up some parmesan or making pastry crumbles.. but I would definitely recommend a stand alone if you're thinking of purchasing a food processor.. this attachment is too, too loud.

Works well with power unit. Would be a better accessory if it were easier to disassemble and reassemble.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seriously, PAINFULLY loud, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart SM-FP Food-Processor Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I am not an appliance novice (as one commenter hinted about another reviewer) - I have plenty of appliances and have used many more. I have worked in restaurants around still more. But this one is literally painful to the ears when it is running. I got this attachment as a free bonus when I bought my mixer, and tried it once. I will never use it again. I do not have sensitive hearing in the least, but it hurt to stand close enough to the mixer to use the controls. My daughter, in the next room, had her hands over her ears AND her head buried under the pillow. If it hadn't been for free, I would have returned it immediately for a refund.

I like the mixer, but they need to do some serious quality control before they let the attachments out of the warehouse. As much as I was hoping to be able to get rid of my stand-alone food processor, I'm afraid it is here to stay, simply because I can't stand this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars defective design, September 18, 2011
This review is from: Cuisinart SM-FP Food-Processor Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
Purchased this food processor and used the slicing disc. The disc rubs the cover rubbing plastic into the food. I think that is where all the noise comes from. I contacted cuisinart to let them know. They wrote me back that it was a user error not sure how that could be as the stem, disc and cover only go on one way. Returned and tried a second one with same issue. Looking at a Magimix or robot coupe -tired of buying junk.

1.0 out of 5 stars SOOO LOUD!!!, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Cuisinart SM-FP Food-Processor Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White (Kitchen)
I can't get past how loud the unit is - it is unreasonably loud. I used it once to make a puree for my toddler and we all sort of jumped. My husband had to take him into the other room while I finished the puree as we were both worried about damaging his hearing (my husband works in the hearing industry). The pets were on edge after I used it as well. I will not use it again. It seemed to get the job done but it's not worth the piercing noise.
