Cuisinart Sparkling Beverage Maker

Put a Sparkle into Ordinary Tap Water

Save money, save time, save space, save the planet. Do all that and more with the Cuisinart Sparkling Beverage Maker. This magic machine turns plain water into sparkling water in less than 15 seconds. Add flavorings after you carbonate for delicious homemade sodas. You control the level of carbonation; you control the sweetness. The CO2 cartridge easily snaps in to make up to 16 liters of carbonated water with the push of a lever. Get ready to enjoy the drinks you love -- seltzer, sodas, energy and sparkling cocktails.

Custom Control and Lots of Options

Make delicious soda with tap or filtered water with your own ingredients -- no salt, less sugar, more natural flavorings. Choose the carbonation level, add flavorings if desired -- even create homemade energy and party drinks. Delicious homemade recipes are included.

Hints and Tips

The Chill Factor

To get the best bubbles, be sure to use the coldest water possible. Store the carbonating bottles filled with fresh, filtered water in the refrigerator so they are ready to go when you are. Simple syrup can keep in the refrigerator for up to one month. Make a big batch so you can whip up drinks at any time.

To Each Their Own

You decide how much fizz you want in your drink. Some prefer water with their bubbles, while others prefer bubbles to dominate the water -- you be the judge. The more times you press, the more bubbles are being forced into your water.

Beverage
Beverage Variety

Make your morning fizz by adding some carbonated water to freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juice. For a sweet finish, try out a root beer or cola float. For the after 5 o'clock crowd, let the Cuisinart Sparkling Beverage Maker be a fixture on your bar at home. From fizzy mojitos to big bowls of spritzy wine punches, carbonated cocktails make a statement.

Easy as 1, 2, 3

Step 1
1. Open the back and slip in the quick-connect CO2 cartridge
Step 2
2. Insert the BPA-free bottle and twist into place
Step 3
3. Press and release the handle to reach your desired carbonation level
Desired Carbonation

A pump is a two-second burst of pressure on the handle, leaving a few seconds in between each burst. To achieve an average level of carbonation, three pumps are recommended. To get a stronger carbonation level, simply pump again to add more CO2.

Customer Reviews

FYI, SodaStream makes a LOT of different flavors to add to the carbonated water, if you like.

The *main* reason I purchased this unit was for the convenience of stopping by a local retailer to refill the CO2 cartridges.

Sorry, Cuisinart, I wish I could give you a better review, but I do not like this machine at all.

Color Name: Black Verified Purchase
I bought the Cuisinart because I knew that the original Primo line could be used with CO2 paintball tanks that you could refill a lot cheaper than exchanging the proprietary tanks from Sodastream. Well, now that the Cuisinart purchase has gone through, Cuisinart is following in the same footsteps as Sodastream! They redesigned the system, and you can only use their proprietary CO2 tanks....the reviewer here is correct when she said "teeny tiny"! Their tiny tank is only 3oz! It states that you can use any size Cuisinart CO2 tank, but they only have the 3oz tank available right now and the cost is a whopping $20....and they only give you a single 1L bottle! Really?!! They also sell extra bottles for $6 but make you spend another $3 to buy the cap for the bottle.....are you kidding me!! The other reviewer here said that he is using a 24oz tank in his system, but he must be using one of the original Primo units that was still available before the purchase went through because I couldn't even fit a 20oz paintball tank in the Cuisinart. Sodastream has also changed their newer designs so you can't use anything larger than their proprietary 14.5oz tank. These companies need to rethink their greedy, monopoly-sized ideas before they lose all their customer base. I am returning the Cuisinart!

As my title states, this is not the item you want. . .and I'm going to not only tell you why. . . but I'm going to tell you which item you DO want. . . which is SodaStream.

SodaStream is exactly the same thing as this item. . . but. . . the difference is the CO2. Cuisinart comes with one very small (expensive to replace) CO2 cartridge, which it says is supposed to carbonate up to 16 bottles. The key here is "up to" because it all depends upon how carbonated you like your water. Certainly to get 16 bottles out of it, you're going to use the least amount of carbonation possible. The beauty of this item, as well as SodaStream, is the ability to carbonate the water as much. . or as little as you like. Though the Cuisinart cartridges are "recyclable". . . they are not "refillable". With SodaStream, they have two sizes of cartridges.. . a 60-litre and a 130-litre. Both are WELL above the small 16-litre that Cuisinart. On top of this, you can exchange the SodaStream cartridges at many local locations, at least in larger metropolitan cities. FYI, you used to be able to exchange them online and they would send you a return UPS label. . but that's no longer possible, due to shipping regulations, so you must now exchange them locally. The SodaStream cartridges are MUCH less expensive than Cuisinart, when you compare how many bottles you get out of them. Cuisinart shows that they are supposed to have different sizes. . . but I have found only the 16-litre size and one other. . and the other one doesn't show how many bottles it will carbonate. . . but nonetheless, you can't refill it, so it's certainly not what you want. If Cuisinart ever decides to make larger cartridges which you can refill. . . then you might consider this. . . but why wait. . .

UPDATE after 6 months use: OUR LOCAL SUPPLIER OF CO2 gas abandoned this product and will no longer supply the gas, new or refills. The only other location for me to buy now costs 250% more. That's a huge jump. I can no longer recommend this product due to gas costs, although the machine itself never offered a bit of problem.
Looking for alternatives, there is another brand that other reviewers praise. I may replace the Cuisinart, or go back to bottled Club Soda.
Dern it all, I liked the machine, the water, but sure can't afford Cuisinart any longer.

Original review:
Not the most economic soda streaming device, but then it never claimed to be. Quality good.
Since everyone seemed to complain about the quantity of gas bottle available, and its cost, I decided to keep count with my first CO2 bottle. The verdict is in, Cuisinart is quality, but it is not the leader economically when it comes to replacement CO2. It lags, for now, because it doesn't offer a larger canister of gas at a lower per-ounce price. Since I only own one device, I can't comment on the quality of the rival Soda streamer option. I do not use sweeteners or flavors.

Gas cost findings. Bottom line, the cost is equivalent to a local grocery house brand of Club Soda.
There are options on how long a burst of gas is held, and how many bursts of gas are added to a single liter bottle of water. Also one must follow the recommendations and use very cold water for carbonating. I use an old liter bottle to keep a ready supply of cold water in the refrigerator, rather than buying a second bottle from Cuisinart at about $10.
4 oz bottles of CO2 suggested retail price is $20 (amounts rounded).

I purchased this as a gift for my fizzy water-loving boyfriend. I thought it would be a great way to cut down on the amount of plastic recycles in our household. And it was. For about one week.

Then the canister ran out and he hasn't touched it since.

The refill is $20? Really? Cuisinart, you've REALLY let me down!
