Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

An elegant addition to any gourmet kitchen, this pair of salt and pepper mills offers a grand way to serve freshly ground salt and pepper to family and friends or more formal dinner guests. The rechargeable mills stand ready and waiting on a low-profile power base, complete with red "charge" and green "ready" indicator lights for both mills, while their transparent spice-holder containers make it easy to check salt and pepper levels at a glance. The mills can be adjusted to generate fine or course grinds, and each offers simple push-button operation with 15 to 20 minutes of continuous run time before needing to be charged--no need to worry about the mills losing their charge as they get passed around the table. Even more, they come equipped with LED lights that illuminate food as it's being seasoned to ensure the perfect amount of salt and pepper. Attractively housed in brushed stainless steel with an embossed Cuisinart logo, the set of salt and pepper mills when placed on the power base measures approximately 3 by 8 by 12 inches.

The pepper grinder never worked and the salt grinder stopped working after 3 months.

Right from the box this pepper and salt set worked well. There did seem to be an issue of charging but when I switched sides both units charged accordingly and have never been a problem since. The ease in changing the grind certainly helps with a variety of textures needed. Some recipes call for a coarse grind pepper such as grilled steaks but a finer grind in soups and sauces. This also applies to the salt mill as well and it's ease of use.

The handle is ergonomically designed and comfortable to hold and both units have an easy to press button on the top to start the grinding. The base unit is great for storage and makes recharging easy as well as economical, thus saving on tossing batteries into landfills.

I also like the light feature so you can see what your grinding into and how much. The hoppers hold a nice amount of salt or pepper and are interchangeable and it you desire to add a variety of herbs or dried garlic/ginger the grinders are equally up to the task. Once I've used the grinder I simply put back into teh charging base and it ready for the next culinary need. Very simple and straight forward without a lot of guesswork on operation and cleaning the grinders and base charging station is a snap with a simple wipe with a damp cloth.

Pick up a set and enjoy the versatility of grinding wihtout the constant twisting of your wrist. Both grinders are also kid friendly, just make sure they hold them high enough above the food without dropping them into the pot, dish or plate.

Purchased 2 for gifts- both were defective-returned to Amazon and they replaced 1 unit-this also was defective. Seems to be problem with the charging unit. 1 unit- the charging indicator light stayed red for both mills. 2 units- only 1 of the mills showed green on the charging unit.

Amazon's customer service rep, Jane, has been extremely helpful in trying to get this resolved. I am hoping that this was just a bad lot sent to them and that they can replaced them. My kitchen has many Cusinart products and this is the first time I have had any issue with this manufacture's products.

I like fresh ground pepper, and lots of it. I like different types of it as well, some more mild, some hotter. I've used manual and battery operated grinders for years. The manual type are bulky and clumsy. Until now, the electric ones have used batteries, lots of aaa cells, which do not last long under the load of grinding pepper. So you were always replacing batteries and you often had to use the grinder at less than full charge in order to not waste batteries. Also, some of the past grinders I used would actually fall apart while using them at the place where the unit broke down in order to install batteries.

All that is changed with the SP-2. They are powerful, always ready, and always at full strength. They are 1 piece units with no mechanical weaknesses. They have clear pepper bins so you can see when they are getting low on pepper. The units fit into the charging base nicely and the base of the units is wide enough to make them nice and stable in the charger, not tippy. The activation button is conveniently located. The units are easy to clean, stylish to look at and feel good in the hand. Having 2 grinders means you can have 2 types of pepper at the ready (who grinds salt, anyway?). And the x2 design means the base is wide and long enough to be stable, not tippy. There is a convenient charging indicator on the side of the unit and no extra unneeded complexity. I think the $60 something price point was reasonable for what you get.

The only small downside I'm seeing is that when you use the unit a lot, pepper dust can get onto the charging contact of the handheld unit. If this happens, you can put it in the charger and the red charging light will not come on.

I loved the functionality of the mills themselves. They are great for one handed cooking and for people with arthritis. Unfortunately, the charger is very poor quality. It quit working after 2 months and the "limited warranty" is only for 30 days. I would expect a better quality for the price and being from Cuisinart. Cuisinart customer service is one of the worst I have ever encountered. They make you pay the postage (both ways) to return it. I did complain about that and they did cave in and paid the return postage. I was told it would be about 7-10 business days before I received the new one. After not receiving it in the allotted time frame, I called to check on it. The order was not completed so it had not been shipped yet. I asked it they would express ship it since it was their error and was told no. I heard a lot of no's, can'ts and wonts with very negative responses from everyone I spoke to at customer service. They would keep reminding me of the "limited warranty". I asked to speak with someone higher up but was told they (customer service) did not have any phone numbers or any contact information for the upper echelon of the company. I will really think twice about ever buying another Cuisinart product.
