Purchased 2 for gifts- both were defective-returned to Amazon and they replaced 1 unit-this also was defective. Seems to be problem with the charging unit. 1 unit- the charging indicator light stayed red for both mills. 2 units- only 1 of the mills showed green on the charging unit.

Amazon's customer service rep, Jane, has been extremely helpful in trying to get this resolved. I am hoping that this was just a bad lot sent to them and that they can replaced them. My kitchen has many Cusinart products and this is the first time I have had any issue with this manufacture's products.

Right from the box this pepper and salt set worked well. There did seem to be an issue of charging but when I switched sides both units charged accordingly and have never been a problem since. The ease in changing the grind certainly helps with a variety of textures needed. Some recipes call for a coarse grind pepper such as grilled steaks but a finer grind in soups and sauces. This also applies to the salt mill as well and it's ease of use.

The handle is ergonomically designed and comfortable to hold and both units have an easy to press button on the top to start the grinding. The base unit is great for storage and makes recharging easy as well as economical, thus saving on tossing batteries into landfills.

I also like the light feature so you can see what your grinding into and how much. The hoppers hold a nice amount of salt or pepper and are interchangeable and it you desire to add a variety of herbs or dried garlic/ginger the grinders are equally up to the task. Once I've used the grinder I simply put back into teh charging base and it ready for the next culinary need. Very simple and straight forward without a lot of guesswork on operation and cleaning the grinders and base charging station is a snap with a simple wipe with a damp cloth.

Pick up a set and enjoy the versatility of grinding wihtout the constant twisting of your wrist. Both grinders are also kid friendly, just make sure they hold them high enough above the food without dropping them into the pot, dish or plate.

I like fresh ground pepper, and lots of it. I like different types of it as well, some more mild, some hotter. I've used manual and battery operated grinders for years. The manual type are bulky and clumsy. Until now, the electric ones have used batteries, lots of aaa cells, which do not last long under the load of grinding pepper. So you were always replacing batteries and you often had to use the grinder at less than full charge in order to not waste batteries. Also, some of the past grinders I used would actually fall apart while using them at the place where the unit broke down in order to install batteries.

All that is changed with the SP-2. They are powerful, always ready, and always at full strength. They are 1 piece units with no mechanical weaknesses. They have clear pepper bins so you can see when they are getting low on pepper. The units fit into the charging base nicely and the base of the units is wide enough to make them nice and stable in the charger, not tippy. The activation button is conveniently located. The units are easy to clean, stylish to look at and feel good in the hand. Having 2 grinders means you can have 2 types of pepper at the ready (who grinds salt, anyway?). And the x2 design means the base is wide and long enough to be stable, not tippy. There is a convenient charging indicator on the side of the unit and no extra unneeded complexity. I think the $60 something price point was reasonable for what you get.

The only small downside I'm seeing is that when you use the unit a lot, pepper dust can get onto the charging contact of the handheld unit. If this happens, you can put it in the charger and the red charging light will not come on. The fix is to just wipe the contacts on the unit with a cloth or even your finger to clear the dust. It fixes the issue every time. So I am now in the habit of checking that charging light each time I return the unit to its base to ensure charging is happening and if not I give it a quick wipe. If not for this aspect, these things would be 10/10. As it is, an easy 9/10 is warranted. They are a pleasure to use.

I received this set for Christmas a little over a year ago. After receiving the set I couldn't wait to get home to try them out. Like a lot of other reviews I've read, there was initially some difficulty in getting the charging base to work properly, BUT DON'T LET THAT STOP YOU FROM BUYING THIS ITEM!!!!

Very simply stated, the charging unit is a very simple set of connections that need to be properly aligned to work properly (Sort of like a flashlight). When I disassembled the malfunctioning unit, checked the battery connections, cleaned all of the contacts, and reassembled the unit (making sure that everything clicked back into place) the unit started charging immediately and I haven't had a problem since.

I like everything about this grinding set. The brushed surface is simple and easy to clean. You can easily see how much spice remains through the transparent container so you don't get caught in the middle of a meal needing to fill it. The grinders dispense just the right amount of spices and are easily adjusted to fit the needs of the spice you're using. As an avid popcorn lover, it's quick and easy to dispense just the right amount of salt (practically without even looking). The lights on the bottom aren't all that powerful but they do provide some added light in low light dining situations.

In closing I'd say, "Please don't let the whole charging issue scare you away from this set." It was a simple fix that could be accomplished by anyone who really tried. Now since I've only experienced one of these units I can't speak for all of them, but I'm pretty sure that the problems others were seeing were the same problem I saw and fixed in 2 minutes.

Happy Grinding!!!

I almost didn't order this product based upon another poor review but after seeing a number of good reviews I placed my order. My product had the exact problem of the other poor review. The product cannot hold a charge and the charging lights (which turn green when the product is fully charged) never turned green, even after more than 72 hours of charging. I contacted Amazon and they immediately sent me a replacement product. Unfortunately, the replacement product has the exact same problem - the shakers cannot hold a charge. I don't want to continue with this process so I am returning both orders to Amazon.

Have been using them just a short time but seem to work well. Charges quickly. Downfalls:Seem to be top heavy and if not placed correctly back in the charges, will fall and may damage the product. Also the wells to hold the salt and pepper are small.

I loved the functionality of the mills themselves. They are great for one handed cooking and for people with arthritis. Unfortunately, the charger is very poor quality. It quit working after 2 months and the "limited warranty" is only for 30 days. I would expect a better quality for the price and being from Cuisinart. Cuisinart customer service is one of the worst I have ever encountered. They make you pay the postage (both ways) to return it. I did complain about that and they did cave in and paid the return postage. I was told it would be about 7-10 business days before I received the new one. After not receiving it in the allotted time frame, I called to check on it. The order was not completed so it had not been shipped yet. I asked it they would express ship it since it was their error and was told no. I heard a lot of no's, can'ts and wonts with very negative responses from everyone I spoke to at customer service. They would keep reminding me of the "limited warranty". I asked to speak with someone higher up but was told they (customer service) did not have any phone numbers or any contact information for the upper echelon of the company. I will really think twice about ever buying another Cuisinart product.

I bought 5 of these mills thinking I had found a great product from a highly reputable company for great birthday presents for my entire family who are all "foodies" in their own way. ALL of the units I bought will not stay on the coarseness setting that you put the unit on, so instead of nice small pepper kernels you get practically whole ones every time. Then it took longer than listed to charge on some units and one unit the lights never turned green to indicate a full initial charge was received. I am very turned off from Cuisinart after making this purchase and I am contacting AMazon to return all 5. don't waste your time and money on this product!!

I purchased this item because Cuisinart is generally a great product that will last forever. This is not the case. After 5 months, the lights don't work nor does the Pepper Mill. I have contacted Cuisinart and they are going to charge me $10 to return the defective product and have a new one shipped out even though it's still within the manufacturers one year warranty. I would advise anyone NOT to purchase this product. I should have followed the others comments on the product review instead of believing a Cuisinart product would last forever.

I was very disappointed. It was a handsome set, but it just did not work. I charged it overnight plus, but the peppercorns were almost whole and the salt was the same size granules that I put in the mill.
I think I just received a bad one, but thanks to Amazon, they quickly credited my credit card.
