It is beautiful to look at, large capacity, very efficient, and easy to clean.

Poorly designed and they could not have tested the worthless product before selling it to unsuspecting customers.

I have used it 5 times and it still smells like burning plastic...like others have mentioned.

We use a blender about once a week for smoothies and crushed ice. We had a Black and Decker than burned out in less than 6 months, so we got this more expensive, supposedly higher quality Cuisinart as a replacement. It did a great job blending a smoothie, but it smelled like burning plastic with the first use and stopped working completely during the 3rd use - so it was promptly returned.

Also, the pitcher was awful other than the size. The lid was hard to use and it was impossible to pour a smoothie without spilling. Because it blended so well, we would have tried a replacement unit for the initial unit that quit, but couldn't tolerate the mess created with pouring.

We purchased this item in July of 2009 after careful research. We wanted a large capacity blender and this one was 56 oz. And of course Cuisinart is a respected brand.

After the blender arrived, we thought it was a little "lightweight" in the base (plastic housing instead of metal), but we decided to keep it any way. We used it for about 5 minutes on our first try pureeing some soup ingredients before it quit with a strong electrical smell and a flashing LED.

We finished the soup with our 40+ year old Osterizer and contacted Amazon Customer Service. They provided a "no hassle" exchange and we received and tried the 2nd one. It also emitted a strong "electrical" smell like a motor that is being severally over-worked (and we were only blending liquids and veggies), so we tended to use the Osterizer for smaller jobs and only used the Cuisinart when we needed to blend a large batch of something "light." Three days ago we were pureeing some tomato soup we had prepared and it conked out on us the same way the original one had died - of course it is out of warranty by now.

A real surprise and disappointment!! We even tried to use the Cuisinart's large capacity jar on the Osterizer that just keeps going and going like the Energizer Bunny, but it didn't work. :(

I agree with everyone who has had problems with this product. Just because it says Cuisinart on the label, does NOT mean you are getting a quality product!!! I used the blender to puree cooked vegetables and make smoothies, about 10 times max. Then the motor burned out. It never did a good job blending food before it crapped out. For the price paid and the brand name, you'd think you would get years of service. YOU WILL NOT! Do NOT buy this product. Repeat, do NOT buy this product! I contacted Cuisinart and they said for about $20 in shipping, I could return it and they would fix it or replace it. Why would I want to do that? It will only burn out in a few more uses. I'm better off applying the $20 to a new blender. And you can bet it will NOT be a Cuisinart!!!!! If you are on the fence about whether or not to buy this product.........DON'T!!!!!

After reading the poor reviews, I realized that other people are doing what I used to do, using a blender as a food processor. My Cuisinart has the processor attachment as well as the blender. Once, I was blending the ingredients for hummus and the motor sounded labored and smoke started coming out of the slots at the bottom rear, with a strong electrical odor. Then, I remembered that I had always used the processor attachment when doing the hummus, and I switched out the hardware and continued on without any more issues. The motor continues on to this day, and I am thankful I didn't do it permanent damage. The design of the processor blades allow much more resistance to turning than does the blender designed blades.

I use my blender daily for smoothies and frozen protein shakes and this blender works perfect for them. It breaks up the ice and frozen fruits perfectly! It also allows for a smooth and clean pour. The only problem I had was when I put it in the dishwasher and the top got slightly worpt. However I contacted the customer service and they sent a new one with no hassle.

Bought The 1st One At Kohls Got A Really Great Deal. I Took It Home To Make A Smoothie & It Went Out On Me After One Use. I Went Back To Kohls & Exchanged It For A New One. Went Home To Make A Smoothie And It Worked Fine. Went To Use It Another Time & It Burnt Out While Making A Smoothie AGAIN! I Am So MAD! I Gotta Take This One Back Too! Do Not Buy This Blender! Listen To The Reviews!

This item looks slick. Black and silver, Batmanesque. But just like a nerd in a Batman suit, you soon find out that the costume doesn't fit and the props are not real. We recieved this item as a gift. It served us fairly well for a year when we used it. However, most of the time it just sat and did nothing. Recently, the Cutting Assembly - SPB-456-2, that has a plastic threaded part, has stripped it's threads and has left the blade unusable. For the cost, you'd think they'd use more durable parts. However, the replacement part is only $15.00 and is delivered in just a few days. As far as blenders go, it's OK. I mean if you think about it, we ask a lot out of them for the job they do. But I am glad that for this item I used OPM (other people's money) to obtain it.

From early on it would smell like something was burning - but it still lasted for about 2 years, and worked well for that time - even handling frozen bananas, kale etc.
For the last 6 months there has been a black powder (rubber) to go along with the burning smoke, and now it has seized.
It's not the motor really, I think the thing that spins has seized.
Anyway - I'll be going for another brand or model.
