They need to recall these..,
By
This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
I have owned our Cuisinart TOB-30 series for less then 3 months and we were very happy with it, until one day we noticed the unit would not shut off when turned to the off setting, the light would remain on and there is still being heat generated in the oven in the off position, then within a week, when you would turn the unit to the bake selection, it would not turn on and sparks would shoot out the back, only the toast feature remains working, and if you turn the knob to go through other settings sparks are generated. If you have the same situation I highly recommend you goto www.cpsc.gov the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and let them know of your concern, maybe we can get these recalled, it appears to be a faulty switch they are using. Im not hearing positive things about there service, but if you buy one, save your receipt and warranty information, you may need it and be aware of the unit at some point may not shut off unless you unplug it (if you go on vacation, etc)

I bought my Cuisinart 30W Toaster Oven/Broiler on 12/11/2005. For Two months it worked Great, then I woke up at 8:30 a.m. Supperbowl morning to the smell of an electrical fire. Ran out to the Kitchen to discover that it was the Cuisinart 30W Toaster Oven/Broiler it had come on even though the switch was off. My Cuisinart Burnt up, I still had the reciept and returned it for a Kitchen Aid. Hopefully, the KitchenAid works without the defects of the Cuisinart.
Suggestion: Unplug the Unit after every use, even if it has an on/off switch.

Malfuncting dial switch, hazard - needs to be recalled by Cuisinart.,

This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
My toaster oven (Cuisinart TOB-30W Toaster Oven/Broiler) is also malfunctioning as described above. The oven stays ON all the time, no matter if the dial switch is turned to OFF. The ON light is on and the upper heating element stays ON. The bottom heating element does not work now. It is mandatory to keep the appliance unplugged. I bought mine exactly one year ago at Christmas, and this malfunctioning switch problem just started this Christmas 2005. I hope I can find my receipt, however, I think the manufacturer should be notified and they should issue a credit for a purchase of a new revised model, and recall this particular model

A Classy Toaster Oven,

We like our Cuisinart TOB-30BWFR toaster oven. It's black pebble grain and brushed stainless steel finish is most attractive and blends well with most decor. The unit makes beautiful toast, broils and bakes to perfection. A nice feature is the non-stick coating on insides that makes for easy cleaning. The accessories, ie the trays, go right into the dishwasher with the dishes when soiled. The crumb tray wipes off with a damp cloth for easy cleaning. This toaster oven is of good quality, easy to use and an excellent buy.

the perfect toaster oven...for 2.5 years,
By
This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
I own the stainless/black version of this and have had more than a year of perfect operation. I don't use a microwave very often or my large oven so this gets used daily. It looks brand new. Food simply doesn't stick to the glass door or the handy crumb tray. So far so good.
UPDATE: after two and half years of flawless operation, the internals of the toast/bake/broil switch are fried. The toaster oven no longer stays on in "bake" mode, rendering it useless. I would downgrade the rating to 2 stars.

Defective Applicance to be Avoided,
By
This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
I have owned two of these lemons. The first one experienced electrical sparking and spitting like previous reviewers have explained. We sent it back to Cuisinart for repair, and, after many phone calls, they shipped us a new one. The new one has developed the same problem apparently, plus a new one. The electrical problem has reappeared: When we returned from a two week trip, having forgotten to unplug it, and having left it in Toast, we were greeted by a loud buzzing noise. No lights were on, and the oven was cool, but it was making a lot of noise for an appliance that appeared to be "off". But, it still worked, so we keep using it.
Yesterday, I tried to move it, to clean under it, but it had leaked something and 'glued' the feet to the counter, and when I tried to move it the plastic broke. So now it's propped up on the broken plastic awaiting a replacement oven (anything but Cuisinart). I heartily agree that the CPSC should ban the sale of these ovens. They're a menace.

Fire hazard,
By Jason (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
This is possibly the worst and most dangerous kitchen appliance ever created by man.
The dial will break, locking it to 'broil' or some inconvenient setting, it turns on and off unpredictably, and even when it was working it didn't toast anything evenly or heat to the correct temperature. They need to recall these, they are dangerous. The only Cuisinart product out of five that I own that works well is the food processor. I will never buy a Cuisinart product again. (I have 5 because they were house warming gifts, I would have learned my lesson after the first otherwise)

Unsafe for use,

My Cuisinart TOB-30BCC Toaster/Broiler oven started to short out and burn when I used the bake option. I took it apart to see why it was shorting out. I found that the knob that connects the circuit was made out of plastic and had melted. Thus, in a state of deformity no longer able to connect the circuit. This is what is happening with all of these reviews. Question: Why would a designer of a toaster oven that has a 500 degree setting make such an integral part out of plastic. Answer: to shave a few dollars off of production costs to squeeze out a little more for the bottom line. And on top of that, have it manufactured in a sweat shop in China. My grandpa has a toaster oven that over 30 years old that was made in America and it still works great. What sad greedy times we live in.

Unsafe,
This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
We purchased a similar oven, model TOB-30BCC, about two years ago. Last week, when my daughter pressed the "on" button to make toast, the oven made a loud cracking noise, and sparks shot out the back. She smelled something burning, and unplugged the oven. Cuisinart refuses to stand behind this item, insisting that we produce a sales receipt that we no longer have. This oven is unsafe, and should be recalled. This is the last Cuisinart product that we will bring into our home.

A perfectly balanced toaster oven, does it all very well.,

This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
When my 10 year old Black and Decker toaster over died, I started looking for a replacement that could toast 4 slices at a time. Black and Decker's most recent toasters don't seem to get a whole lot of respect, so I looked elsewhere. I ended up with a Delonghi digital toaster oven, but that thing could turn any food item into a charcoal briquette. So after much consideration, I picked up one of these at Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% coupon for less than $65.
I know a lot of people have had trouble with the rather fidgety multifunction knob on this unit, and I could easily see it breaking - but as long as you keep the unit unplugged when not in use, it shouldn't pose a fire hazard. There's a 3 year warranty - and if I get that long out of it, I will be happy with it. Believe me, this toaster more than makes up for its shortcomings as compared to its contemporaries at the same price range. First off, it's got a TON of space, you can easily fit four slices of toast and then some. It has 3 different rack positions, a very nice non-stick pan, broiler plate and pull-out crumb tray. Its temperature settings are very accurate, as are its toasting settings. The finish is unique for a toaster oven has it has an easily cleanable matte black finish and feels pretty sturdy overall. This unit *does* get very warm on the outside, but I've found this to be commonplace with all of the toaster ovens I've used. There are standoffs to keep the toaster from backing all the way up to your counter backsplash - and for good reason. You do need to be aware of the orientation of the toaster and keep it away from other materials. Otherwise, it is fairly compact and well designed. Did I mention this thing makes perfect toast? That's a rare trait in a toaster oven, but this one does - and that's my primary use for it, aside from the occasional pizza slice / restaurant leftover reheat. All-in-all, I would recommend this unit. The only real downside is its track record of failure. Obviously having only owned this for a few weeks, I haven't encountered it. One would hope that since it's been in production for so long now that Cuisinart has redesigned the internals to prevent these kinds of problems. Either way, I've decided to err on the side of caution and keep it unplugged (just as the manual recommends). So, with that in mind, it more than suits my needs and warrants a 4 star review. |
