I followed the instructions for toast-set the rack to the B position, turned the temp to 500 degrees, set on bake/toast,turned the timer dial past 20 minute than back to the toast shade I desired, I selected the lightest shade possible. I was a little nervous after reading the burned toast comments so I stood by and watched. The toast was perfect, exactly as it would have been in a toaster.

Next I tried a 12" frozen pizza, followed the instructions-set to 425 degrees, set the rack to the A position, set the timer. The only thing I did differently was I placed a sheet of alumium foil under the bottom heating elements on top of the crumb tray because I put the pizza directly on top on the rack (instructions do not indicate to do this). I added extra cheese and spices, set the timer for 10 minutes. The top of the pizza was done perfectly. The crust was slightly burned on the bottom, next time I'll set the timer for 9 minutes and lower the temp(9 minutes for a frozen pizza! wow, even my pizzaz pizza cooker takes 25 minutes).

Yes, the dial is hard to turn at first, it does loosen up, so far this is my only complaint. I can't wait to roast chicken or a full meal using the convection feature. So far so good, very happy with this product. I got it for $104.00, so I'm even happier with the price.

This is a fantastic oven. I highly recommend this oven for singles or couples. The supplied directions are brief, but will get you started easily. I have tried pizza, chicken, and casserole dishes, all turned out as expected. The frozen pizza I tried, was done, within the time listed on the box. Scratch pizzas turn out perfect. Anything I would put in a regular oven, I use this toaster oven. A lot less heat in Florida. The dials on my oven are not unreasonably stiff, as some claim. As for the timer, for those having trouble with it, use the Always ON function. With always ON, you now have a simple on and off switch. Once turned on, Just use the clock as a timer, the same as with most full size ovens. This oven is no more, no less, dangerous than any other heating device. As with any other oven, full sized, toaster,or even range tops, it is not a good idea to turn it on and not keep an eye on it, food burns all too easily. My only concern is, it isn't quite as high inside, as I would like. *NOTE* One word of Caution. Support the rack from underneith, if pulling the rack all the way out, to load or unload, with a full casserole dish. The oven will tilt forward and downward, allowing the dish to slid off the rack. It becomes top heavy. Enjoy, Have fun with this oven.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Just Fine If You Bother To Read the Directions, February 9, 2009

This unit has received a bad rap on this site. It is possible to set timer for less than 20 minutes and it is possible make toast without burning it. Control knob is a bit stiff to begin with and the unit is not as intuitive as other models I've used, but if you bother to read the very brief directions you shouldn't have any trouble at all. As a matter of fact, this unit makes much better toast than other brands I have tried. It is also very handsome unit and looks good in a kitchen with stainless steel appliances. I can't speak to the broiler function because I really would never use a toaster oven to broil.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good tabletop oven, mediocre toaster, January 17, 2010

When my Sanyo SK-VF7S died, I ran to the store and bought this, instead of my usual methodical Amazon research.
Toaster ovens are by design usually tradeoffs. The small ones tend to make better toast. The large ones make better ovens, but heat too slowly to make good toast.
Cuisinart in my mind has a reputation for good quality, but not always great design. The controls on this leave something to be desired. I've had none of the problems others reported regarding sloppy controls, etc. In fact, these controls felt superior compared to the other ovens in the store. But setting the timer just right for toast is not easy without a magnifying glass. Also, it's easy to accidently leave it on 'Convection bake' instead of 'Bake/toast' without realizing it. Not that there's much difference, but on Convection it heats up even slower.
Which brings me to my biggest criticism: It doesn't heat up fast enough to make great toast. Some ovens, like the Sanyo, have Quartz elements that glow almost immediately. This does not. So to me, the toast ends up baked, instead.
For other uses, I'm completely satisfied. I often use it for baked potatoes, or broiling something in au gratin dishes. I rarely need to use the large oven, since I'm cooking for two or three.
The build seems solid. The convection fan isn't loud. The controls feel stiff and well made. The Stainless shell looks great. I also like that it's just a rectangle, not some silly sloping or curved design that has no functional reason. The flat top is great for warming your salad dressing while the potatoes are baking. I also like the size - big enough for most of my needs, without being huge.
So if I didn't want to make toast, I'd give it 5 stars.

10/23/10: After almost a year, I'm really happy with this. It still looks great. The controls are still stiff. And I've gotten the hang of the temperature settings. Basically, for anything that you don't want the top to burn (like biscuits), turn it down to 300 and/or cover with foil until later in the cycle. Tonight I did Red Snapper coated with a little bread crumbs and parmesan. Started off baking at 350, switched to Broil for the last 5 minutes. The fish came out flaky, moist, perfect. Last night I broiled sliced potatoes covered with peanut oil and Old Bay. French Fries, basically. They were wonderful.

I still don't use it for toast.

Have to say Amazon has some very savvy shoppers, who in my opinion are out there to help all of us.

Had a Delongi toaster oven that was very inexpensive, Around $25.00 and lasted two years ....... I got my monies worth. Read many reviews on Amazon and Eopinions and I was not sure about purchasing this item. Anyway I did. It looks beautiful very industrial and will fit in any contemporary kitchen.

So we bought the product, a very shallow pan dish is provided. We used it once and when washed the pan rusted. Have to agree with other reviewers the toaster feature is not great, and although the directions for the heat temp was clear , the dial is very small and we truly we were unable to gage the color of toast we wanted, .......... many burnt pieces.

The convection feature on this oven ...... forget it. We did a baked potato at 375 degrees on regular cooking and it took 1 hour and 5 minutes. On a later date did the same size potato ( approximately ) on the convection feature same it took 58 minutes. Chicken pieces did real well roasted at 375 degrees on the regular cooking feature.

I gave it a 3 star because of the way it looks and slower cooking temperatures appear to do well, the faster stuff ( convection feature ) not sold on . Am going to return this item and get the Breville as the cooking comments were great for this toaster ( except for not being able to use aluminum foil and glass). Will buy the Breville and then right another review on that product, and hopefully this will help all of you in making the best choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice convection oven, May 13, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler (Kitchen)
We've had this for a week, and it does the usual jobs quite well. Bread at room temperature toasts perfectly; bread out of the freezer toasts perfectly. Even bagels out of the freezer come out just slightly browned on top and warm all the way through. The convection option works well, and seems to even out the whole process. A good, reliable toaster oven.

4.0 out of 5 stars so far so good, February 3, 2009

Given the negative reviews of this product, I was a little reluctant to buy it. I saw it in a local store, and noticed that the timer dial, which others have complained about, appeared to have been changed. And it has - it's now a 30min timer, which is much easier to operate than the original version. The one thing I dislike about the oven is the temperature dial, which seems a little loose or imprecise. I did check the temperatures with an oven thermometer, and they're fairly accurate - a bit high at lower temperatures and vice versa. I also noticed that the top and sides get very hot, but all the ones I've used do this too.
Assuming that this holds up, I'd recommend the new version with the 30min timer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good overall, June 25, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler (Kitchen)
We don't have any of the problems mentioned, it must be a quality control issue. If the timer doesn't work or the temperature knob is lose one should take it back and exchange it. The top and sides get hot but not as hot as the huge Kenmore, or the Kenmore Elite we tried last, or even the Krups. We are not concerned with perfect toast but we use it daily for cooking purposes and it works well for that purpose.
The only major limitation is that the vertical space is limited -a common problem- and using the grill in the lowest position will burn the bottom Another minor criticism is that nice big non stick pan warped [edit: it's now flat again] On the plus side it doesn't take much counter space. I just wish the interior was 1 to 2 inches taller.

I bought it for Christmas 2009 so it should be the latest model. Same issue, crummy toaster (yes, I read the directions carefully) many others have complained about plus a new one. When the timer went off the heating element did not, I didn't notice the red light was still on, so I left. Came back home a few hours later and the whole kitchen was hot from that oven on full blast. I thought it was a fluke, but it did it again. Cuisinart said to return it to the store. I did. I got the TOB-190 for $40 more, hope that works out, it has the electronic timer.
