Evenly browned, crisp waffles, and easy to use,

Terrific waffle-maker! The browning is even and the different settings let you make your waffles as soft and tender or as dark and crisp as you want. In my case, I get the very crisp waffles my family likes by using the highest setting: 6. (For very crisp waffles, I also recommend using a recipe for yeasted or raised waffles, found in Rose Levy Beranbaum's _The Cake Bible_, or Shirley Corriher's _Cookwise_, or Marion Cunningham's learn-to-cook cookbook whose title escapes me at the moment.) The non-stick surface is fantastic. As long as there is some fat in your waffle recipe, there is no need to brush or spray any oil on the grids; the waffles lift right out with a plastic fork or spatula (plastic to protect the non-stick finish!). Cleanup is simply wiping the grids free of beads of moisture and fat with a dry paper towel. My family requests waffles every weekend now, and when I think of the money I am saving by not eating out at a restaurant's brunch buffet. . . ! I highly recommend this waffle-maker!

Great waffles--but wear an oven mitt!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cuisinart WMB-4 4-Slice Belgian Waffle Maker (Kitchen)
This waffle iron cooks great waffles, but the best thing about it is that it is huge. It takes literally twice the batter than my previous 4-slice round regular waffle iron. Since it takes 5 minutes between waffles, this capacity really speeds things up. The problem with this waffle iron is that it has an awkward clamp that is supposed to hold the lid shut to keep the expanding waffle batter from causing the lid to rise (it's so heavy I don't really see this happening though). When you open the lid, if you don't make sure the clamp is open, you pull the whole waffle iron up in the air; the weight of the thing at that point will cause the clamp to release, bringing the whole contraption down with a bang (and in my case, delaminating a chunk of my kitchen table). Once you figure out how to open it, though, it's okay. A related problem is that when you open the clamp, hot steam spews out at your hand from inside the waffle iron right at the point where you grasp the lid to open it. This could cause severe burning. You definitely need to wear an oven mitt when you use this thing, and keep kids away from it. The recipes included with with the waffle iron are a little on the lazy side, with no separation of the egg yolks and whites and no whipping of the egg whites. You'd be better off getting ahold of better recipes if you're going to go to the trouble of making waffles from scratch. But at least they don't recommend Bisquik.

A chromed piece of junk,

From the first batch of waffles, I knew we were going to have problems with this machine. The waffles came out pretty well, in fact -- light, fluffy, more cooked in the middle, but fairly even. The problem is the electronics, especially the thermostat, which didn't work on day one and doesn't work now (about a year later). Today, the thermostat failed to shut-off entirely and the machine came close to catching on fire. A true hazard that I'll have to retire. It's a sad day, when you can't trust the cuisinart name and the industrial-chrome look to deliver quality. I can't recommend another waffle maker, but the Cuisinart machine is one to avoid....
