This tool is very poorly made. When grating cheese the handle tended to twist in the hand making it difficult to control and causing discomfort. With medium pressure during use, caused the drum to dent! Returned Cuisipro grater. Strongly dissatisified! Looks good, but a piece of junk.

I gave this thing one star only because I had no choice if I wanted to review it. I would have given it minus 5 stars if it were possible to do so!!! This poorly made product fell apart within the first five minutes of use. While attempting to grate parmesan cheese, the grater barrel caved in and the handle fell off. To add insult to injury, Macy's only credits you for the price of the item so you get to pay the shipping charges for a defective product you had to return. Do NOT buy this piece of garbage!! DON'T BUY THIS CUISIPRO GRATER!!!!,

LOUSY!!!! The handle design makes the Cuisipro grater extremely difficult to hold. There is a BIG space between the drum and the hopper and big pieces of cheese fall through. I grate a lot of cheese, and I am sorry I bought THIS grater.

I received this grater as a gift at least a year ago after the plastic handle on the grater I previously owned, which came from a high-end kitchen store, snapped off. I have not had any trouble with this grater and am surprised by the negative comments it has received. My drum has held up, the handle is solid, and it grates cheese quickly and efficiently. My only complaint is that on a few occassions I have pinched my finger on the clasp that closes the basket. (It is very tight.)Keep in mind, however, that this is a small grater with small holes. It is for shredding cheese over your pasta or chocolate or nutmeg over your dessert. I do not recommend this grater for shredding large quantities of cheese or for soft cheeses; the basket is not very big and pressure on the top arm would simply mush soft cheeses through the small holes. If you need to grate a lot of cheese or soft cheese, a food processor is a better choice.

Well made, poorly designed.,

Yes, there is a rather large gap between the blades and the edge of the hopper, and yes the sheet metal that the cutting blade is made from is thinner than I'd like, but neither of these is what I find most annoying. The cutting drum has two strips of plastic that act as a barring surface to prevent wear. (Un-lubricated stainless steel to stainless steel contact on a barring surface would cause spalling, and quickly wear out). Unfortunately if you look into the hopper, you see these barrings, The width of the cutting blades is a full quarter of an inch narrower than the width of the hopper. If you are grating anything hard you must carefully align the product between the barrings to prevent the product from hanging up on the barrings. All that would be needed to fix this issue would be to make the hopper narrower than the cutting blades, and put a flange at the bottom of the hopper for the barring to ride on. Another disappointment.

Good for hard cheeses, not so great for soft ones,
This review is from: Cuisipro Rotary Cheese Grater (Kitchen)
Asiago cheese works well in this grater, but softer cheeses like cheddar and especially mozzarella tend to get smooshed through instead of being grated.

Cuisipro Does the Job,
This kitchen helper grates a lot of cheese quickly and neatly. Then just throw the cutter and the base in the dishwasher. Could not be easier.

Build tough and it lasts. The plastic ones don't compare. It is an excellentproduct for restaurant use. Cannot beat metal. In use for over 1.5 years of daily use and it still works.

I bought this nice looking grater to replace a plastic one that felt rickity. It was always awkward to grate with, and after a few months the barrel of the grater became dented, and unusable!

I am shocked at the complaints about this grater. Mine is about 8 months old, very sturdy, well designed and functional. Yes, it is designed for hard cheeses like Parmesan and Asiago, so don't expect to grate softer ones with it. I don't know how hard people are pushing to have the drum dent, but I have not had any problems. I love this grater.
