My family breaks everything, so this is not a big surprise. I think it was stuffed into a cupboard and then a couple of children leaned against the door to force it shut, and there are a few little cracks in it. It's not leaking though, and it works very well both before and after the cracking.
I really love the strainer on top that takes out the big chunks, and the very generous size. I have a smaller one that is frustrating to use- too small for normal usages and very difficult to clean the tiny spout. the Cuisipro is very efficient and easy to clean. If this one breaks, I'll buy another.

The gravy separator works but the design engineer selected the wrong type of clear plastic. We purchased this item (not from Amazon) back in Nov 2008, but within a year the clear plastic had developed many cracks all around it. I don't think we even used it very often. Don't know if they are stress cracks or why they occured. We don't recommend this product... unless it has been re-designed with new, more suited-to-the-application plastic.

Gravy Separator does not work. The fat pours out from over the top before the liquid from the bottom comes out. Fat also seeps through the strainer and into the bowl you are trying to decant the liquid into. There is a little red nub which was detached when it arrived and although you can put it back, it doesn't even work. Don't but this product. I'm returning mine.

In my quest to cut back on my fat intake AND to get my calorie counting daughter-in-law to eat my cooking, I purchased this Cuisipro Fat Separator. It works very well, and holds up in the dishwasher, but I gave it four stars because my DIL still won't eat my cooking! Hmmmm, what to do now.
