Do you ever feel bad about buying those plastic soap dispenser bottles? I did. So I tried several other ways to deal minimize waste. I found a lovely stainless steel dispenser and got my soap from the co-op bulk section. Well, in no time the metal reacted with the soap and it got all yucky and gross and I didn't want to use the soap because it was rusty and brown. I...

This review is from: Cuisipro Foam Pump (Kitchen)
I've purchased four Cuisipro Foam Pumps and sooner or later ALL of them developed problems with the pump sticking in the "down" position. Two units stopped providing foam after the plastic pump unit was detached from the dispenser for cleaning. I returned them to Amazon for replacement and several months later both of them developed a sticking problem. I used Dr. Bronner liquid soap and filled the soap and water in the portions indicated by the lines on the side of the dispenser and the Cuisipro worked fine...for a while. Those of you having pump sticking problems can get a replacement under the product guarantee by calling the phone number on the instruction tag wrapped around the stem of the pump. You'll be asked to send proof of purchase and you don't even have to send the defective unit to Browne USA which manufactures the pump. I sent receipts for the two Amazon.com Cuisipro Foam Pump replacements and received two new complete units about a month later. Evidently, they don't have replacement parts for the pump, so they send you a whole new unit.

UPDATE on 7-3-2011 to previous review. I made a mistake when I said you didn't have to send the defective units back to the manufacturer for replacement. In fact on October 2010, I mailed two (2) pump units MINUS their dispensers to the company at this address per directions I received by email ALONG with proof of purchase (Amazon receipt): Browne USA, Inc. 802 Centerpoint Blvd., New Castle, DE 19720 Attn: Customer Care. You might want to call this number first 302-326-4802 before mailing your unit(s) to the company for replacement. On November 2010, I received replacements for the Cuisipro Foam Dispensers; however, BOTH of the replaced pumps are sticking again at the down position. I emailed the company about the problem about a month ago and still haven't received a reply, so I'm going to call them instead. If I get no reply, I'm going to mail the units back with a Return Receipt request, so that I'll know when the company received the shipment and that it wasn't "lost in the mail".

I tried bars but they were really messy, particularly with a four year old in the house.

Then I came across this Cuisipro Foam Pump soap dispenser and wondered if it would work. It does! It saves you money because you only use a tiny bit of soap and the rest is water. Brilliant! The foam is a big improvement on the regular glob of soap in terms of both waste and rinsing, my hands feel cleaner with the foam and well rinsed.

There is a suction cup on the bottom which is great for kids, my son has a much easier time with this than with previous methods we've tried. You can bring the whole thing to the co-op and there will be zero waste (or you can just re-use a different bottle). This is a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foamy soap is better than plain liquid, June 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cuisipro Foam Pump (Kitchen)
I was tired of reusing the cheap foam dispensers that Dial comes in. This was so great in the kitchen, I bought one for the bathroom too. It looks sleek and has nice, neutral materials. The suction cup on the bottom sticks well to both counter tops and sink margins, and makes it a snap to use with one hand. It stays in place and doesn't slip or need to be steadied with the other hand.

This pump aerates your favorite liquid soap. Foamy soap is more efficient than plain liquid for hand washing because it spreads over the hands more easily and more completely. It actually kills more germs because it disperses better. It will do the same for your dishes, saving soap by using less to do the same work.

No need to buy special mixtures, use your favorite dish washing soap. Many brands are now also for washing hands and as well as dishes, having a skin-friendly PH balance, antibacterial properties, etc. You can buy one soap for both kitchen and bathroom refills.

Note also there is no need to use full strength. The best mixture is about 1 part soap to 3 parts water. I copied this consistency from the Dial Foam Soap product made especially for foam dispensers. It's just diluted more than regular dish/hand soap, no need to pay extra for less soap and more water, do it yourself! It actually works better when diluted, liquid soap too thick can clog a pump and is wasteful. Experiment adding water to your soap until it pumps easily and gives you a light, frothy foam that you like. After using foamy soap, thick, liquid soap seems like a bother to wash hands with.

I recommend Earth Friendly Products "Dishmate". Almond is my current favorite scent and it's clear, no bright color dyes to contrast with your interior decorating. It also comes in Grapefruit, Apricot, Pear, Lemon Grass, Lavender and unscented. It has a moisturizer for hands so can be for hands in the bathroom as well as for dishes in the kitchen.

This review is from: Cuisipro Foam Pump (Kitchen)
I was so excited when I found this soap pump. I LOVE Dawn Direct foaming dish soap, but wanted something sturdier and more attractive than the blue plastic bottle it comes in. I have been searching forever for a nice looking foaming soap pump and thought I had finally found it with this.

Unfortunately, this thing is terrible in practice. I believe the downfall is the shape of the pump head. It does not protrude out like a normal soap pump does, so that the soap can fall straight down and away from the pump. Instead, it just angles slightly out from the base and the opening where the soap comes out faces forward, instead of down. What ends up happening is that, without fail, each time you press it some of the soap drips down the neck and remains on the pump. Not only does it look dirty all the time, but because the metal-looking pump head is really just coated plastic, the soap ate away at it within days and etched it permanently.

I also did not like the whole suction cup base at all. It seems like a good idea, but because I was using this at a kitchen sink I frequently needed to pick up the bottle to wipe the counter. Not possible with this. I would have been okay with not using the suction part and just leaving the bottle directly on the counter, but the design of this product makes that impossible. The balance is all off and there is no weight on the bottom without the suction base so you just end up tipping the whole thing over every time.

Definitely a disappointment and I ended up returning it promptly. I don't understand why more companies aren't making foaming soap dispensers ... I guess I will just have to keep looking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pros, Cons and Care Tips, June 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cuisipro Foam Pump (Kitchen)
Although the Cuisipro Foam Pump is not perfect, it is significantly superior to other foaming soap dispensers that I have tried. I own several Cuisipro pumps, and I occasionally purchase an additional one for the house or for a gift.

PROS:
Good foam lather. The foam lather rinses easily off your hands (and off eye glasses), whereas non-foaming soap takes a bit of rinsing to get all of the soap off.

Economical. The dilution is 1½ ounces of soap to 8 ounces of water. (Don't worry, you do not have to measure. There are fill lines on the back of the dispenser). If you prefer a lighter lather, or even greater economy, you can use an even higher dilution.

The angled spout aims the soap slightly downward, so that if the tip were to clog (as other brands of dispensers do), it would not shoot straight out and cover you with soap. The spout extends far enough beyond the bottle so that it is over the sink, and so that it will not drip soap onto the outside of the dispenser.

The spring is pretty dependable with proper cleaning (see CARE TIPS section, below). If the spring does become sluggish, the large plunger handle makes it easy and convenient to pull the plunger up to its full height.

The suction cup keeps the dispenser in place.

The inverted well that holds the suction cup, creates a "soap moat" inside of the soap container. This provides two benefits: (1) it provides additional accuracy when filling the liquid soap to the correct level, and (2) it allows the pump, whose suction tube is exactly long enough to touch the bottom of the "moat", to pump the soap completely to the last drop.

Good ergonomics and styling. The sloped unit with wide plunger handle does not look like something that you bought at a supermarket. Very attractive with a drop of food coloring in the soap, or with already colored soap (such as Soft Soap's "Black Raspberry & Vanilla"). I would have preferred glass rather than plastic, but I accept the fact that plastic is a lot safer.

This unit has a 25-year manufacturer's warrantee, and a 90-day Amazon.com warrantee. Keep your receipt and the warrantee info. Amazon.com provides a free UPS return label. According to another reviewer, the manufacturer replaced his unit without his having to mail the defective one back.

CONS
Any liquid soap dispenser (not just this one) will develop a sluggish spring return if soap gums up around the moving parts. This is a minimal problem with this dispenser if correctly cleaned (See CARE TIPS, below). If you do allow it to become sluggish, the pump handle will still spring up high enough to use, and the wide pump handle makes it easy to lift it all the way up.

One of my pumps died and I had to return it (See warrantee information under "PROS", above). The pump mechanism appears to be held in place by a friction ring washer. If you disturb it while cleaning, it can come off, and the pump will never work again. See CARE TIPS, below, for how to clean the dispenser without disturbing the pump unit.

Liquid soaps that are PRE-DILUTED and sold TO BE USED AS IS in foaming dispensers, may still need to be further diluted significantly, because of components that might gum the moving parts with residues. My favorite liquid soap that is pre-mixed for foaming dispensers is Young Living Thieves. This soap contains essential oils, and, through experimentation, I find that I need to further dilute it 1 part soap to 3 parts water. Clear or translucent Soft Soap refills, on the other hand, work perfectly when diluted per the Cuisipro instructions. I suspect that trying to use one of their creamy soaps would be deleterious.

CARE TIPS
Rinse and flush the pump with clear water between each filling. (Do not try to clean the lid or pump mechanism with a cloth. Doing so could dislodge the pump from the lid). Simply fill the dispenser ¼ full with clear water. Shake it. Then replace the lid. You can continue to use the dispenser as long as lather comes out. When the lather becomes thin. Then repeat the process a couple of times, rinsing the dispenser, filling ¼ full with clear water, replacing the lid and shaking, and flushing the pump by pumping clear water through it. This will flush out any soap residue that might be starting to accumulate. (You can also use a bottle brush on the bottle if you like - just not on the pump or lid). Then empty the dispenser and fill it with liquid soap and water, per the Cuisipro instructions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than other models, September 4, 2010

I've owned two of these. One started sticking after about 8 months, the other is still working perfectly with close to a year of frequent use. I also gave a third as a gift, and that one's still doing a perfect job, too. I like the suction cup base, the extremely easy-opening top for refills, and the downward tilt that puts foam more directly in my hand.

The pump that failed at an earlier age was actually overfilled by a "helper," and that could be the reason it failed, since they happened at the same time.

I've tried three or four other foam pump designs, all of which started sticking by the second or third refill, and two of which shot foam forcefully across the sink and onto floor or clothing. This pump has noticably smoother operation and seems designed to last. I'm happy enough with it to order again.

I loved this when I first got it, it has a great design. I love the way it sticks to the surface so it stays in place. But, after owning it for about 2 months it is already broken. Because the top part (the moving parts) are made of cheap plastic they stick together and so in order to make the pump work I have to pull it up then push it down and pull it up again. I am going to see if the company will replace it.

Love this foaming soap dispenser so much. Great if you have kids in the house. I bought a second one for the kitchen I loved it so much. The only thing is, the product description notes that it is top shelf dishwasher safe. I just washed it, on the top rack, and the body of the dispenser became totally warped. So buy it, but hand wash it!
