3.0 out of 5 stars Stack Ice Cream Scoop
Very cool scoop, note make sure you dip in hot water and shake between scoops to get a good result. Otherwise it tends to stick.

The drawback is that it doesn't work as well on soft ice cream and there are multiple parts to keep track of. Nothing to really compare it too, if you want to try a stacker scooper you pretty much have to try this one. BUT, don't waste your money. I don't care what firmness your ice cream is. We tried extra firm sub zero ice cream, soft, and near melting ice creams. All with the same basic issue. The ice cream rarely sticks into the scooper. So you take the scooper out and the ice cream is still in the container. Just near impossible to get the ice cream to break free from itself.

I have complaints about it's design after using it. But honestly that hardly matters because those flaws will not make a difference in it's ability to work well. I don't know how the Thrify's staker scooper works. But they also have a completely different tub based ice cream storage and specific temperatures, etc.

Put simply, you will get frustrated getting any ice cream to stay in the scooper and you will crush and bend the ice cream containers while doing it. Our counter was an awful mess when we were done trying it. Save you money and stick to the standard ball shaped scoopers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless, August 28, 2008
Don't bother, it doesn't work. Instructions say to use on firm ice cream, but it won't go through it. If the ice cream is less firm, it won't release it. Nice concept, just doesn't work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to use, January 7, 2009

Although advertised as easy to use in the hardest ice cream, it was really hard to use. I was also happy that it would measure out 1/2 cup at a time, but once the ice cream is scooped, it isn't so accurate the next time.
The design that enables user to take off base to wash made it nearly impossible to do easily.
I give it no stars, although that's not a choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars This has become one of my favorite kitchen gadgets!, March 15, 2010
This review is from: Cuisipro Ice Cream Scoop and Stack (Kitchen)
At first glance, you're thinking, "Another Ice Cream Scooper!" But you would be so terribly wrong, if that is what you (in fact) WERE thinking! This is something I've used for an excellent presentation and design of food plates. Instead of using it for just ice cream, I use it for mashed potatoes, Tuna salad or potato salad, rice and even BROWNIES(to name only a few). It scoops a generous portion (about 1/4 cup) and when placed against a plate, it looks fantastic and "gourmet-like!" It works exceptionally well for anything with a consistency that will hold itself together when being removed from the scooper! Bon apetit...and don't forget to saaaave the liva!

1.0 out of 5 stars it [...], January 18, 2011
[...]First, you can't separate the base from the unit to wash it - it simply can't be removed without three hands, two to push on each side of the unit and a third to pull really hard on the metal part - so what am I supposed to do, call someone to help? Second, if you don't pre-heat the metal part, the ice cream just stays in the container and you pull out an empty scooper. Hey, if I am required to boil water before scooping ice cream I will just use a regular scooper! Third, even if you can manage to get a scoop out, after a while the plunger stops locking, so you can't push any more.

This is a product that should never have been manufactured, and the design team should be fired. I threw mine in the trash after a few honest attempts, and I didn't even bother to give it to Goodwill - I wouldn't want to punish anyone else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brave new world of orderly food cylinders, December 27, 2011
This thing comes into its own if you are, like me, a hobbyist who makes ice cream at home. Then you can layer your homemade ice cream in a pan at the right depth and use this gadget to obtain attractively obsessive-compulsive ice cream disks. Because it doesn't crush the ice cream like scooping, the ice cream texture remains untouched, which is - *is* it important to you? Do you really care? Are you rolling your homemade frozen confection around in your mouth going "I think there's a bit of water crystallization, next time I'll macerate the fruit more"? Or are you just shoveling ice cream at the demanding maws around you as fast as you can scoop? If you have the time/culinary pretension of the former you might enjoy this ice cream serving toy.

Take the ice cream disks, freeze them more, and enrobe them in chocolate. Or use the disks as building blocks to make an ice cream edifice or sorbet pop art. And you can do other things with this tool. Potato gratin/risotto cake serving creator, meatloaf punch, cookie cutter (to make cookies to sandwich your ice cream disks), cake cutter (ditto, with pound cake). A world of orderly food cylinders awaits.
