2.0 out of 5 stars poor choice for cookbook
When you open the book, it looks like a gastric bypass persons dream. Yummy. But after i bought this book to my nutronist she said that i should not use this book because i would be doing nothing but dumping. All the ingredients use a lot of fat ingredients. Ex: oil, butter.

Honestly if my nutronist did not tell me not to use this book i probably would have.

David Fouts is an extraordinarily talented chef, and he proves it with these delicious, easy-to-make recipes. Because these recipes are so wonderful, bariatric patients will find themselves thanking the day they had gastric-bypass surgery. Who knew the best food came after gastric-bypass surgery? The Bariatric Chef knew, that's who. And now you do too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes!, September 22, 2003

David Fouts is an imaginative, inventive chef and it's a blessing to have many of his recipes compiled in one book. I have attended many of his cooking demonstrations and everything has been delicious and tender. As a former bariatric patient, it's important to find tasty, easy recipes that keep protein moist and tender, and David manages to do that with each recipe. This book would be great for those on the Adkins program as well. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd had this book 2 years ago!, May 27, 2004

I didn't know exactly what to expect when I ordered this cookbook, but I have been elated with each recipe. I had no variety in my food for so long, that I was just eating to get it over with - which also led to some bad food choices. I started cooking again and, oh my, what wonderful flavors. I have had no problems digesting any of the foods and the recipes I've made have had the protein my physician wanted me to have (without the carbs) have been extremely easy to make. It's wonderful to have someone who has had this surgery create such a gift for those of us who never really learned how to cook!

5.0 out of 5 stars For the Whole Family!, February 13, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Culinary Classics: Essentials of Cooking for the Gastric Bypass Patient (Paperback)
This book is fantastic! I ordered it for myself as a post-op gastric bypass patient. However, the whole family has reaped the benefits. The recipes are perfect for my parents who are following a low carb high protein diet and for my son who has Type 1 Diabetes. I am hoping one day he will do a dessert cookbook for those of us who are at goal weight!!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT, May 8, 2004

I loved this cookbook - I got another WLS cookbook (I won't mention any names) but, this one is SO much better. It's full of recipes that I will use rather than having the cookbook sit on the shelf collecting dust because the recipes are far to complicated. This is THE WLS cookbook!

Although I am not a bariatric patient I found that this book is geared towards everyone. I had been on the Adkin's diet but the recipes in this book have actually helped me more. They are written out well and easily understood. The recipes are also very tasty and not just the same old thing. There's also a good variety of recipes. And Chef Fout's story is amazing. I would recommend this cook book not just for bariatric patients but for anyone interested in cooking nutritious, interesting and fun food. Bon Apetite!

My wife is a gastric by pass surgery patient but I have attended David's cooking classes with her and we find all of his recipes to be fantastic. His book is great and has been a great asset to her cook book library. We are very pleased and honored to know David and recommend his book to anyone comtemplating by-pass surgery or those who have already undergone the surgery, or if you are just trying to watch carbs. We have bought the book for gifts for a few friends and they are also pleased with it.
