After the GE SmartFilter replacement filters were made in Mexico (instead of the U.S), the quality plummeted. I later found out the these Culligan filters are compatible with the smartfilter, so I thought that I might get good quality replacements from Culligan. The photo on a website shows the package with the words "made in the U.S", however, when I got to the store it said "assembled in the U.S. with foreign and domestic components". I decided to buy it anyway. After I installed it, I was astounded to find out the the filtered water tasted WORSE than tap water. I used a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) meter to measure the water quality. Tap water said 260 ppm, and filtered water said 264 ppm. The activated carbon in the second filter is there ostensibly to remove chlorine and heavy metals, but the TDS meter shows that NO dissolved solids are being removed. AWFUL.

After installation, these replacement filters had a very low flow, much less than previous replacements, which made me check the label. The filters look identical to previous D-250A sets, BUT do not have NSF certification on the packaging label and the list of things filtered is only
Reduces
- bad taste & odor
- sediment
Therefore different than the original product spec posted on Amazon. I checked at the local hardware store and their D-250A sets are the same, i.e. Culligan changed the first filtering cartridge (the white one) to a lower spec. Unfortunately, I waited to install these beyond the Amazon return window.
I subsequently ordered a separate D-40A cartridge (this one is NSF certified and meets original D-250A specs), installed it and voila, the flow is normal again and filtering is level 4. Therefore I recommend to purchase the 2 cartridges separately.

I ordered this Jan 5, 2010, despite other warnings, thinking I might get lucky and get the right filter, and if not, at least amazon is usually good about returns. Sure enough, I only got the cheapo filter for taste, odor and sediment, not level 4 as advertised. I don't know what to do now to find a quality replacement filter!

what i received is rated for taste/sediment/odor, but NOT a level 4 filter.
a level 4 filter would remove much more, including pesticides, herbicides, etc.
also does NOT have NSF certification.

I purchased this set of filters to use with my Culligan SY-2650 undersink water filtration system. As other reviewers mentioned, this set is no NSF certified, which left me concerned that it left my water poorly filtered. I purchased a separate Cullingan D40A NSF-certified level 4 carbon filter cartridge, replacing the green-capped carbon cartridge which came included with the 250A set. Water flow is fine and I feel safer knowing that my drinking water is properly filtered (although it's probably a good idea to send a sample out to a lab for testing).

My order of of the filter cartridges is per manual - the green capped one goes into the 1st compartment close to water inlet, while the GAC (gray activated carbon) cartridge - into the 2nd. On YouTube, Googling "US-1500 filter change" suggests the reverse with the following explanation : that "GAC (granular activated carbon) filters) tend to shed carbon fines into the water, more so than carbon blocks. So, by placing the GAC before the carbon block, the fines that are released will be captured by the carbon block. It's a minor thing, with the primary advantage being a decrease in the amount of purging of the new filters, due to less carbon fines being released." I don't agree - there is a reason the manufacturer recommends placing the GAC into the 2nd compartment in the manual; I think it is to prevent clogging of the white cartridge with carbon residue, thus decreasing its lifespan.

I have used the D-250 filters for almost ten years and have been very satisified up until now. After starting to replace the filters I noticed that the end caps for the carbon filters were both detached. I looked at the old filter to see if the caps were loose and they were both fastened securely. The outside of the package stated "Made in USA", but upon further investigation the filters were stamped "China" on the side of the filter. I examined the old filters and they were stamped USA. So apparently the Culligan filters are now being manufactured in China instead of the U.S. With all of the issues with heavy metals in children's toy's from China, I really don't trust these filters. I think I would trust drinking my tap water more than trusting what the filters might add to my drinking water. I really don't like the fact that the outside label of the Culligan filters state "Made in USA", but then I find out they're really made in CHina. If they hadn't been broken, I probably wouldn't have noticed. Caveat Emptor.

As far as the product goes, this was an actual Culligan brand, just like the ad said, and this purchase was direct from Amazon. My prior filter purchase was from a reseller who said I'd get a Culligan, but what I got the previous time wasn't.

I got the free shipping, and I guess you get what you pay for. It was free. There was no visible activity via online shipping tracking for a few days, then all of a sudden the package was in my hometown. It would at least make us think we're happier if there was more feedback earlier, but hey, it was free, right?
