This book contains an impressive collection of paintings (highlights include some rarely seen works by G.F. Watts and John Millais), sculpture, illustration, furniture, jewelry and decorative arts of all types produced during the height of the British decadent/symbolist/Pre-Raphaelite period.

Beautiful book, with lovely articles that address all different facets of Victorian art -- the Pre-Raphaelites, the Aesthetics, and related movements that affected the Victorian (and Edwardian) concepts of beauty and beautiful living.

It's a big, attractive book and the color plates are gorgeous. The chapters are short, lively and interesting, connecting different threads of art and criticism and pointing toward their effect on popular culture of the day.

As a point of entry for research on Victorian attitudes toward art and culture, it's a wonderful resource.

Read a review in an art magazine but apparently misinterpreted it. Thought there would be more paintings, sculptures, etc. I will donate to library.
