4.0 out of 5 stars BE WARY OF THESE 1 STAR REVIEWS BECAUSE...
Here is the truth of what has happened. Cooper Lawrence has, in the past, spoken out against video games, and one of the games she has bashed or named as being inappropriate or harmful to young people is Mass Effect. I've also seen Cooper speak out on other games. Although I do admire and respect Cooper, I do feel she has joined the hysterical side who aren't gamers, who...

This review is from: The Cult of Celebrity: What Our Fascination with the Stars Reveals About Us (Paperback)
My wife recently borrowed this book from a friend of ours and - being mildly interested in the subject - I decided to give it a go. How glad I am that we did not pay for this tripe ourselves. Cooper Lawrence purports to be an 'expert' in the field of psychology. This is surely one of the grossest perversions of the truth that it is possible to make. This 'book' offers nothing of substance and each new chapter is as vapid and intellectually forlorn as the last.

One may be forgiven for thinking that this 'book' is merely a cynical attempt to fleece 'celebrity cultists' of their hard-earned money and time. There are more evocative and stimulating works on this subject; some of them have even been written by real psychologists and not a 'T.V talking-head pop psychologist'. Your $9 would be better spent on ice-cream; it contains about the same level of intelligent discourse, but has far more taste.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible book, March 1, 2009

Drivel pure and simple... It seems Cooper knows more about writing then celebrities but just barely. If you need something to burn in your fireplace then buy a used copy, otherwise stay away.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another terrible book, May 27, 2009
This review is from: The Cult of Celebrity: What Our Fascination with the Stars Reveals About Us (Paperback)
Apparently Cooper Lawrence continues to find it necessary to pump out new books every 3 months- probably because they sell so poorly. Anyways, just as with all her other books, this one again lacks any real research and focuses mostly on opinion rather than fact. I do not recommend this book, nor do I recommend any of her other books.

1.0 out of 5 stars Author is STUPID, February 2, 2010

The funny thing about this book is that her opinions are based less on facts and realities than those of the celebrities that she insists on warning us off of. The Effect is Mass misunderstanding. I also find it odd that a feminist would use a sexual image on the cover to try to sell their product, thereby objectifying women and teaching teenage boys to think of Women as objects of sexual desire rather than individuals.

Not a good read. You'd be better off playing a video game than this junk.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cooper Lawrence is NOT a psychologist, October 18, 2009
This review is from: The Cult of Celebrity: What Our Fascination with the Stars Reveals About Us (Paperback)
As a licensed psychologist who worked hard for my credentials and take my professional endeavors and commitment to help others seriously, I find Cooper Lawrence deeply disturbing on many levels. The title "psychologist" is legally and ethically reserved for individuals with a doctoral degree and that have furthermore met the rigorous criteria of state licensing boards. Cooper Lawrence has neither of these credentials.

Cooper Lawrence and the various "respected" national media outlets that feature her and her unsubstantiated, sensationalistic, and often downright erroneous advice should be held accountable for this unprofessional, inappropriate, unethical, irresponsible, and in my opinion often dangerous behavior.

There are competent psychologists out there that are committed to helping (not exploiting others for personal aggrandizement and financial gain). Please don't let the reputation of these professionals be tarnished by "psychology experts" like Cooper Lawrence.

1.0 out of 5 stars I want my wasted time back!, March 21, 2009
This review is from: The Cult of Celebrity: What Our Fascination with the Stars Reveals About Us (Paperback)
not only a waste of money, but a total waste of time.
I bought it at a airport bookstore because the clerk recommended it, and read like 1/2 the book during my travels, only to kill time, but it was so disappointing I stopped midway and just left the book at one of the airport waiting lounges

I bought this book after research from the University of Maryland showed that this would have a Massive Effect on the way you judge matters that one has no knowledge about. After letting someone else read it and make informed decisions on my part, I made up my mind to judge this book from what i was told. This was Effectively a Massive disappointment and i felt more like a sheep than a Shepard.
