An excellently researched, very controversial book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cult Watch: What You Need to Know about Spiritual Deception (Paperback)
I have to disagree with the next reviewer completely. Ankerberg and Weldon write some of the best-documented and -footnoted books in existence, and Cult Watch is no exception. In actuallity, it is a compilation of their "Fast Facts on . . ." series of booklets, but should not be looked down upon because of that. The next reviewer's primary objection to this book seems to be that the authors take a very hard-nosed stance against both the various "Christian" cults and the various aspects of the New Age Movement, which of course is not very PC. Say what you may, however, you cannot deny that this work backs up its statements with a truckload of references and solid reasoning. Bottom line: If you're not a Christian, this book will probably offend you, but I'd recommend you read it anyway. If you are a Christian, this book is an invaluable resource to have in your library.

Q & A on Cults and the Occult,
This review is from: Cult Watch: What You Need to Know about Spiritual Deception (Paperback)
In "Cult Watch: What You Need to Know About Spiritual Deception" authors John Ankerberg and John Weldon provide a large volume that furnishes the historical background and pertinent facts about aberrant and cultic groups. The authors give the reader the scriptural refutations of the various heretical groups as they bring clarity to the essential doctrines to the Christian faith.
These authors have a knack for lively and engaging writing as they promote the truth found in the biblical Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This is a potential book for your apologetic library inasmuch as the format of this book is Question-and-answer; it uses thorough documentation along with precise and penetrating analysis of many false faiths. Chapter include: - Mormonism - Jehovah's Witnesses - Masons - The New Age Movement - The Occult - The Word Faith Movement and more. 375 pages with index. Well covered!,
This review is from: Cult Watch: What You Need to Know about Spiritual Deception (Paperback)
There authors have documented and presented their facts very well. For the Christian believer who studies spiritual warfare this is a wonderful aide to your original text book. The only ones who may be offended are the ones who are still in these various doctrines of deception. Sometimes the truth just hurts.

Author has not done the proper research.,

After reading this book, I can say that the author has a great misunderstanding of religions with which he does not agree. However, he presents his thesis as if he knows all there is to know! Incomplete and out of context statements by various religious leaders are measured against the author's interpretation of the bible. Of course his interpretation is offered as the correct reading of the mind and will of God and therefore statements by leaders of various churches that contradict the author are of course wrong! The author is not a prophet,(fortunately he does not claim to be one) therefore, he cannot interpret the bible any better than any other human(and from what I see worse than most). However, he presents himself and those who agree with him as the final authorities of bible sense(none of these are claimed to be a prophets either). In summary, the author believes in a set of priciples, and believes so strongly in them that there is no room for any more truth. He makes the great mistake of all so called religious expose writers: he assumes he has all the facts, knows exactly what the bible says and means, and that his intellect is sufficient to judge and interpret for all the rest of us, and that those he quotes are also smart enough to think and interpret God's will and words. But none of these people are prophets. Men cannot know the mind and will of God without revelation. This requires prophets. Too bad another great idea gone wrong.

True Facts vs. Fiction,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cult Watch: What You Need to Know about Spiritual Deception (Paperback)
John Ankerberg and John Weldon have done and incredible job of challenging the Cults, especially those that are "Christian" based, to compare their beliefs, philosphy, and rituals against what the Bible, the Word of God, says. Some of the reviewers indicate the research of Ankerberg and Weldon is biased, and I guess if you consider the "truth" to biased, then I guess it is. (It's my bet those reviewers have never read the Bible) If you truly don't agree with what the authors have written, compare it to what the Bible says...basically, compare challenge the truth. The authors have even told you where to look for your answers. If you read the Bible, just read it, the directives are incredibly clear and call for little interpretation. After all, it is your salvation that is at risk. You can be politically correct or you can be eternally correct. But don't take my word for it...take the Word of God. It's all right there in black and white is the best selling book of all time....the Bible.

Authors use very spurious evidence,

John Ankerberg and John Weldon have tag teamed in numerous books that offer their clarification of the unconventional religions of the world. However, I find two repeating flaws in their works, including this one, in whichy they both take documents out of their contexts and misinform the reader about "the facts". The fact is that Weldon and Ankerberg use doubtful evidence to back up their claims; they make logical leaps that only the careful eye can detect as fallacious. I have used these works to teach my writing class about poor use of evidene and extravagant claims. Their writing is hyperbolic and often redundant. There is a diversity of other texts to explore before this one. Don't start with this book. It's just not worth your time or your money.

This book is severely biased. Which would be ok, but besides being biased, it also presents several blatant lies. Opinions are ok, distortion of facts is something else entirely.
