I am the great granddaughter of Abby Christensen and grew up hearing stories of this amazing woman. Tetzlaff does a great job of finding stories that were new to me and telling others in a way that is connected with historical context. I am amazed at what one woman did in just one lifetime.

If you are a history buff, this tale of life in a deep Southern town during and after the Civil War will interest you. This town was different because it had been held throughout the war by the Union Army.
