Miraculous!!,

This review is from: Cultivating Rough Ground (Self-sufficient Living) (Paperback)
In 1998 I inherited 64 acres of scrub/woodland in Arkansas from my Grandfather - It now looks like Hampton court, with rolling green lawns, a cricket oval and even a boxwood maze! From ornamental ponds and Haha's to soil structure and crop rotation this encyclopidic volume is a breath of freash air in the stale world of books about slash and burn gardening.

A towering rollercoaster of a book, epic in scope and daring in its narrative, this lavishly illustrated text is a boone to any gardeners bookshelf. I await further works by this talented old author with bated breath.

Beautifully written, hauntingly wise, Cultivating Rough Ground announces an old writer of extraordinary gifts. The soil around bath is full of annoying roman ruins, which doesn't help at all when all you want is a formal garden. This book saved me months of work in destroying several sections of mosaic tiling on my plot. They have been replaced with a beautiful selection of gnomes, plastic trellis and concrete fountains. Thank you Mr Wills!
