Leah Ramer is Professor Emerita of Nursing at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN. Her university teaching, both theoretical and clinical, has included psychiatric nursing, child health nursing, nursing issues and trends, transcultural nursing, family-centered maternity nursing, and nursing research including the direction of graduate student research projects. Her current certification is in Inpatient Obstetrics through the National Certification Corporation. She has served as a distinguished lecturer for Sigma Theta Tau, a Congressional District Coordinator for the American Nurses Association, a national officer (three terms) for the Association of Womens Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) (formerly the Nurses Association of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists), an editorial board member for the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing, chapter president of Phi Kappa Phi, a national interdisciplinary honor society, an abstract reviewer for the Midwest Nursing Research Society, and in other professional roles for the promotion of womens health, mental health, and quality nursing education and practice. Her publications, presentations, and professional endeavors focus on childbearing, culturally competent nursing, and nursing/research education.
