This review is from: Culture in Christian Perspective: A Door to Understanding and Enjoying the Arts (Critical Concern Book) (Hardcover)
Is art for art's sake or must it have a message? This well written study discusses that question. It is a must read for anyone struggling with the question of whether or not to read secular novels, listen to secular music and watch secular movies. It is also an encouragement to anyone who is an aspiring artist but is also a Christian. I commend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent work, December 3, 2011

This review is from: Culture in Christian Perspective: A Door to Understanding and Enjoying the Arts (Critical Concern Book) (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent exposition of the importance of viewing the literature and the arts through a Christian lens. Particularly striking is the fact that the author drives home the importance of the quality of both Christian and non-Christian art. Furthermore, Dr. Ryken writes exceptionally well - a fact to be expected given his position as a professor of English. I would certainly commend this book to anyone who desires to further their understanding the Christian worldview in English and the arts.
