More About the Author

Margaret Hayford O'Leary (1951-), though born in Minneapolis, MN, always felt she should have been born in Norway. Since the age of 13, when she began learning Norwegian, she has had one foot in Norway and one in Minnesota. She is professor of Norwegian at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, where she has taught since 1977. She also spends summers teaching at the University of Oslo International Summer School. She has coauthored a textbook for intermediate Norwegian, published a translation of a novel by Gerd Brantenberg, and coauthored an interactive computer program for learning Norwegian grammar, called KlikkNorsk. In her spare time she knits and is lead singer in a folksong group called The Lost Norwegians.
