Very good rock`n roll album from Victory,
By
This review is from: Culture Killed The Native (Audio CD)
This is a Great album from Victory, relised in 1989 with Fernando De Luca on vocals, their new singer. He has a great voice that fits this band just great. Pure glam Rock like it was back in the 80`s. With great guitar riffs, synth and harmonic clear sound. The album is full of energy, powerfull and good produced. Great songs on this record is: More and more, power strikes the earth, on the loose, so they run, standing on the edge of the time, but the hole album is great. Easy listening, straight 80`s rock`n roll.

This is the final cassette I burned to CD by Victory. I had bought a slew of cassettes by them out of a discount bin in Oklahoma in the early 90's and this was the final one I burned. As it turned out, it was also the one I liked the least. With a different singer, it veers far closer to hair metal than the others did.
There are some nice guitar parts sprinkled throughout the rather generic songs, but overall, the album came off with a generic pop hair metal feel to it. I can't remember much of anything about it except a couple of lightning fast guitar licks somewhere near the end of the second side. The vocals are partially what did it in. They sound too much like every other hair band that was out at the time. Then there is the songs themselves. In a way, it seems that they all sound about the same. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I didn't hear enough variety between them to tell them apart. I would have figured by this time in their career that they would have gained their chops a bit better and would have refined their sound, but apparently what happened was that they went too far and refined the creativity right out of their music. Sorry guys. This could have been much better. Still three stars for effort. I think culture killed their sound.

This is one of those CDs that never seems to make it's way out of rotation in my CD changer. It's ALWAYS there! There isn't a bad song on this disc! Fans of Tyketto, Gotthard, Skid Row would LOVE this one!

German metal band Victory released their third album "Culture Killed The Native" in 1989. When most people think of German hard rock or heavy metal, the first bands that jump out at them are Scorpians, Bonfire and Warlock. Victory didn't follow the same trail those bands did, these guys drew their sound more from the American hair metal scene than that of fellow European bands of the time. "Culture Killed The Native" really surprised me with how good this record is, I wasn't expecting the album to be so strong. What separates Victory from most of the other bands of the day is vocalist Fernando Garcia. This dude belts it hard and melodic, and is easily one of the highlights of this record. After several listens to this record, I am simply astonished these guys never made it bigger. They seemingly had everything needed to be huge back in the day, and it makes me wonder if it wasn't just poor management that kept these guys from being stars. While I feel the entire album is strong, my favorite tracks are "Power Strikes The Earth", "Let It Rock On", "Standing On The Edge Of Time", "Don't Tell No Lies", "Always The Same' and "Never Satisfied". From what I have read about Victory, this is their strongest album overall. I have been trying to hear some of their other material, but it seems almost impossible to get it. I would love to hear "Temples Of Gold" and " You Bought It - You Name It" but with the prices most people are asking, I doubt it will ever happen. Go buy this record if you can find it, trust me it's really worth it.

Solid 80's rock album,

1989's Culture Killed the Native was the fourth studio release by German rockers Victory. When I think of German hard rock, it's usually Bonfire or the Scorpions that come to mind. Victory has little in common with those bands though, at least on this album, which favors American bands like Ratt and L.A. Guns.
With its Hollywood hair metal sound, Culture Killed the Native is your basic party rock album. It's got some memorable anthems (like leadoff track "More and More"), great guitar hooks, and infectious melodies. There's a metal backbone to these songs, but they're pretty simple and new vocalist Fernando Garcia definitely has a hair metal singing style. Culture Killed the Native is a solid enough album, but when compared to some of the era's better American releases (I'm thinking Dokken, Tesla, Y&T, etc.) it doesn't quite measure up. It's a fun album though, and ought to please anyone who just can't get enough of that forgotten 80's rock sound.

This CD is full of GREAT late '80's rock...not a bad song on this recording. Saw them at The Basement in Dallas, small crowd, mostly girls. These guys RIPPED it live. Top-notch musicians, awesome vocalist. If you liked the hair band days, this CD will surprise and thrill you. Get a copy any way you can! VICTORY!

victory are without a doubt one of the most highly talented mellodic metal bands out there, dont believe me then listen for yourself. if you are a fan of acts like PRETTY MAIDS, PINK CREAM 69, AXEL RUDI PELL, LEATHERWOLF,and ICON, then you will have an orgasm when you hear this album. you know how there are those certian few cd;s that mesmerize you because there is not one bad song on them, like judas priest painkiller every song was solid gold, that is how this cd is. i found the old cassette of this when i was in 10th grade at a pawn shop and thats been 10 or more years ago cause im 25 now. anyway the cassette blew me away but it did not have one song that is on this cd, and this song is the best song on the album, it must be a bonus. the song is called into the darkness and when i first heard this song my blood turned into pure liquid metal and i was entranced by the power and sheer catchy ness of this song, why it was not on my old tape i cant say but it should never have been left out, others like the warning, so they run, let it rock on, all these songs could have been #1 hits and should have been. anyway fellow brothers and sisters of metal, and all you mettallians out there please do not overlook this schorcher, you will love this cd, crank it loud and keep the flame burning. your friend brandon whitson.
