Creative and Complex,
By Captn'Mac (Da Sea) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cultures (CD-ROM)
This is not your ordinary strategy game; it is very complex, however the complexity is not without reason. The game provides so many outlets for discovery into what it offers its unbelievable. You can guide every single character to whatever occupation, mate, abode, and personal characteristics you want them to have. Doing this for a whole community allows you to refine your village to interact with itself in an equilibrium that will allow you to accomplish the goals of your mission. The game-play is addictive, the graphics are beautiful, and the thought required to play is tantalizing. The vision behind this game has come through and makes it an enjoyable experience. One other important item about this game is that appears it was actually tested, I have not had to download a patch and I have been error and bug free in both single and multi-player (LAN) forums of the game. This is to the Xicat's credit when so many games are neither tested properly or rely heavily on patches. This game is worth the money.

Complex and Addictive!,
By Emily Reid (Red Hook, New York United States) - See all my reviews

Fantastic game! The graphics would normally be considered sub-par (especially when you zoom in) but if you factor in the sheer number of things happening at the same time, they're better than anyone could expect (even if some of them are sickeningly cute). The interface was different than I thought it would be. You can't directly control your Viking's surrounding or what exactly they do. However, this adds to the gameplay rather than detracking from it because there's always something going on. If you need Iron tools you have to build an Toolsmith's workshop and promote the Iron Smelter to become a toolsmith, the Iron Miner to become a Iron Smelter, and the Clay-Worker to become an Iron Miner. Oh yeah, and then you need someone else to take the Clay-Workers place. Pros: -Intrique technology tree -Cute animation makes likable Vikings -Hidden jokes and amusing fluff added by the creaters -Easy interface Cons: All in all a great game and the pros far outway the cons. I give it an enthusiastic five-stars!

A cute game with characters you love,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cultures (CD-ROM)
The characters are cute and lovable and the strategy is fun. I love the graphics on here. Because each character is different it's fun just seeing what people look like in your settlement. Although the tutorial is a little vague on how to trade, the rest of it is very helpful. If you use it first, it makes the game much easier to play.If you like fighting, this game lets you train your men in spearsmen, archers, and swordsmen. If you just want to watch your villiage grow, you can either have the men learn on the job or build a school and learn from the men already skilled in that craft. The animals around each settlement are all cute and pose no danger to your settlers (even the bears and wild pigs. This is a combination of The Sims, Civilization, and the Caeser/Pharoah series.

Excellent and simple game!!!,

If you're sick of NOD forces, Orcs, and collecting spice, then hope lies in this small strategy game from Europe.I bought this game for a cheap price expecting cheap, short lived fun. I was wrong. As a matter of fact, I've probably logged over 25 hours into the game so far in three days! Each mission is resolved around building a viking village on foreign soil. Each map already has tribes living there, so you can isolate yourself or join the group. If your lucky, the natives will be friendly. The great part of the game is the easy micromanagement of the vikings. You want more vikings? - Then you need two people to literally breed one, either boy or girl. Everything is progressive, example being you watch your vikings grow up and then assign them jobs rather than having them appear out of no where. Some people may be turned off by the long building times and viking development, but the point to realize is that's when you decide your strategy. By the time you want to act, everything should be ready. A fun and different game, I recommend this one to everyone who sick of the strategy genre norms.

Good Idea...but,,
By K ELLIOTT (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews

The developers of this game had a good idea. It combines a lot of the features of civilization and the sims. The games has the basic build your civilization from the ground up and control every aspect of the characters life from birth to marriage to housing. Where it falters is the speed of the game. It takes forever to complete any task. The features list 200 hours of gameplay and they mean it takes 200 hours to complete one mission. There are large periods of time when you just sit and wait to complete something so you can move on to the next task. To do something you would think is simple, make bread, requires you to build a farm, train a farmer, build a mill, train the farmer to become a miller, build a well, build a bakery and then train the miller to become a bakery. To do this, it will probably take around 45 minutes with the player having a lot of free time to think about playing another game. If you have a lot of patience and don't mind extremely slow play, this is a good game. However, with the multitude of choices in games today, this will not be tops on my list.

This is a very fun strategy/RTS(lite) game that is not too complicated, yet still deep enough to keep your attention. It's not hardcore, but also not for small children, despite the "cute" graphics. Get it from a 3rd party seller like I did for maximum savings (sorry Amazon, you charge too much!).
I went through hell to find a new copy of this game and when I found it, I would pay double what it's worth to experience the fun I had with this title. I would recommend it to anyone 8 to 80(OK, maybe not those extremes, but still.. everyone should play this!)
