Review

"Jason Bingham is truly an authentic leader", says Mike Lamach, Chairman and CEO of Ingersoll Rand.  "Jason tells his personal story with the humility to teach through both mistakes and successes. This is practical advice for leaders at all levels to follow and put into action, with the ultimate goal of creating a sustainable culture of excellence owned by every individual in the organization."

"Cultureship is the right book at the right time. I have had the pleasure of working with Jason as he has placed Culture front and center at Trane and the other organizations that he is connected to.  He is a leader that brings sincerity and authenticity to his work every day, and this book will offer others the opportunity to apply the lessons and practices that have helped Jason develop high performance wherever he goes."    -Bryan Adkins, CEO, Denison Consulting

"CULTURESHIP? Just another management book?  NO WAY!  Bingham writes from experience and with  insight.  His premise that culture is the difference between success in business and failure (or for that matter, success in any relationship.  And, business is all about relationships) is spot on.    Bingham writes a very readable, sometimes funny, poignant, and practical book about putting culture first...and the rewards will follow."   -Nancy Howell Agee, President and CEO, Carilion Clinic

More About the Author

Jason felt like a failure almost daily as he transitioned from individual contributor to team leader. With very little experience, he was dropped into a high performance culture and asked to lead it forward. It was not going well. This "blessing" was the toughest year of his life, yet set him on the path to learning and living Cultureship. He learned how culture can change quickly and the results followed just as fast. He also learned a pragmatic process to build high performing cultures.

His promotion to district manager three years later allowed him to practice what he had learned by building a high performing culture in an underperforming business. The business results followed quickly. Now, in his current position as Vice President of Trane North America, Jason is learning how to build high performing cultures from a "company" perspective by managing business leaders.

Jason paid forward these insightful career lessons by writing the story and documenting a pragmatic culture process now called "Cultureship". His true goal was to make it easy for leaders to create high performing cultures. Through this process, any leader can learn, create and teach high performing cultures that deliver premier business results. Maybe most amazing is that this process is proven to deliver those results within one year. Once you live Cultureship, your definition of leadership is changed forever.

Jason's Bio is below or to learn more about Jason, visit his website at www.JasoneBingham.com:

Under his leadership and guidance, Trane has created a winning culture regionally, nationally and globally., which has led to exceeding business expectations every year of his twenty-two year career. Through the efforts of the teams he has led, Trane and the Virginia district have recieved multiple regional and national awards.

Jason has developed strategies, planning processes and leadership curriculums that have now been distributed across the nation. He holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee. He walks the talk by emersing himself in the community including vice chairman of the Roanoke City School Board (six years), executive board member of Mill Mountain Theatre, executive board member of the Roanoke Valley Business Council and chairman of the MS Dinner of Champions.

Mr Bingham has pulled the thread through the acedemics and connected the pragmatic behavior change needed to be viewed as a great leader. It reads like a novel and causes you to wonder about the next real depiction of a challenge and its resolution.

Bingham's book "Cultureship, the ABC's of Leadership" has taken the mystery out of high performing organizations and the power of personal influence. His culture first approach focuses less attention on task lists and more attention on full on employee engagement to achieve excellence. Cultureship provides repeatable, scalable road maps for tapping into employee passion and leading it to ensure success. Cultureship... is a practical, easy read from a credible source the can help you change the tragectory of your organization and career.

I did a presentation on this book in grad school and I had a difficult time actually sharing any applicable information. This just as well could have been a book for football coaches as it was for business. The author seems too focused on his own personal experiences instead of conveying practical tools or advice. The cover looked cheap like it was self published. Great for people who have no leadership or group experience at all, but for anybody who has been in business or management for a few years it won't help much.

The book carries a great deal of credibility for me. Bingham names names and specific situations to back up his principles and provides examples that add to the impact. So many leadership books read like textbooks and seem to be based more on theory than on practical experience and actual results. Bingham's work is real and resonates with me.

So refreshing to get a business book written by a true business professional as opposed to an "ivory tower" academic. This lends credibility to the helpful leadership methods detailed in the book and shows that they can and have been applied in a real life setting as opposed to the theoretical.
