3.0 out of 5 stars great idea; maybe not enough for a book, May 23, 2009
This review is from: Cultureshock! Paris: A Survival Guide to Customs and Etiquette (Cultureshock Paris: A Survival Guide to Customs & Etiquette) (Paperback)
what a great idea -- this is needed if you don't want to be an ugly american. i read it and our week in paris was full of only great experiences. my only criticism is that there really isn't enough material to fill a book. My summary: The French are private so you should take cues from them if you want to fit in. Note, for example, how quiet people are in public places, especially on the metro and buses (tangent: the RATP site has great interactive metro and bus maps) and how they don't make eye contact the way americans do. Note they also greet each other with a title when entering a store or beginning a transaction ("Bon Jour, Monsieur," not just "Bon jour")

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK, July 8, 2009
By
This review is from: Cultureshock! Paris: A Survival Guide to Customs and Etiquette (Cultureshock Paris: A Survival Guide to Customs & Etiquette) (Paperback)
I think its a great book for anyone planning on living in Paris. This has more information than any book I've seen. For a visitor planning to stay for a few days, there is probably others that arebetter but for someone who is planning to work or study in Paris this is fantastique!
