They were the most commercially successful glam-rock band in Britain in the early 70s, outperforming competitors like David Bowie, T. Rex and Roxy Music. In fact their singles sales were better than any rock act… Read more in Amazon's Slade Store

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not the original Slade..., March 18, 2003
This review is from: Cum on Let's Party (Audio CD)
The original line up went their separate ways sometime in the late 1980's. Without Noddy Holder and Jimmy Lea (the driving force in band), Slade became more or less a cover band or just an income source for the remaining original members Dave Hill and Don Powell. After some fights regarding the rights to use the name Slade, Hill and Powell were allowed to release a album under the Slade banner. I don't know if Hill and Powell, or the record company, deliberately try to fool us to believe this is the original Slade's come back (no member's face is shown on the cover, it's hard to find information about who's playing on the album, and the misspelling of song titles is still there) or if it's all just a strange coincidence.

The music is still straight rock with a decent amount of party feeling, and those who like the old Slade wouldn't have too much against the new Slade, since they carry the tradition well. Outstanding songs are the rockers "Cum on let's party" and "Johnny played the guitar" together with the slower "Wild nites". Even `tho the rest of the material isn't of the same quality, it's still good.
