This review is from: Cumberland Blood: Champ Ferguson's Civil War (Hardcover)
This relatively new book is an important contribution to Civil War history and that of the region of the middle Cumberland River in Kentucky and Tennessee during an extended period of lawlessness and terrorism. Highly recommended.

This review is from: Cumberland Blood: Champ Ferguson's Civil War (Hardcover)
A well written book on the life of Champ Ferguson-one of only two men that were hung for war crimes after the Civil War. The book gives an insight into the lawlessness of the Civil War period in Kentucky that is not normally portrayed in the school books. Personal grudges were taken care of under the umbrella of war, with the rationale that "it's either him or me". One comes away with a better understanding of the economic impact of the Civil War and how families were permanently torn apart through this violence. One sees how the climate bred the likes of Frank and Jesse James, the Daltons, Bloody Bill, etc.
