5.0 out of 5 stars one of my favorite genealogy books!, November 19, 2008
this is one of my FAVORITE genealogy books! it has an index! and on cd rom you can search it any old way.
i found ancestors i did not know i had in this book.
searching for my ggg grandfather MICHAEL SAXTON i found not only his wife, nee SARAH HOCH, who was trying to divorce him about 1820, but her daughter REBECCA WEAVER by her first husband. i also found the name of sarah's brother HENRY HOCH, and read the fascinating testimony back and forth of SARAH accusing MICHAEL of desertion, and him accusing her of other unflattering things. fascinating!
then, as a BONUS, i found ANOTHER ancestor in the book, my ggg grandfather GEORGE SWIGERT, trying to get rid of his wife ELIZABETH, who had quite a temper. according to the book she threatened to throw boiling water at the sheriff who wanted to reclaim george's "stuff." testimony in that case was rendered by my gg grandmother CATHERINE SWIGERT BEECHER. i tell you it is fascinating to read first person accounts.
i dont know where the author found all this information but i keep going back to the book hoping to find more hits.
it's a treasure.
